Transport Properties and Concrete Quality by Barzin Mobasher,Jan P. Skalny Pdf

This title is based on the workshop on Transport Properties & Concrete Quality, held at the campus of Arizona State University on October 10-12, 2005. During this meeting, scientific aspects of the relevant relationships between materials, mechanisms, processes, and service life were discussed. * Provides a useful resource for understanding the most valuable aspects of cement-based materials, with topics ranging from the current state of practice, to theory, simulation, and testing and specifications. * Logically organized and carefully selected articles give insight into the need to better integrate aspects of materials science, mechanics, modeling, and testing in developing tools of understanding the durability in cement-based materials.

The Modelling of Microstructure and its Potential for Studying Transport Properties and Durability by H. Jennings,Jörg Kropp,Karen Scrivener Pdf

From July 10th through July 13th, 1994, an informal workshop co-organized by RILEM committees 116-PCD and 123-MME was held at Saint-Remy-Ies Chevreuse, France, and attended by 38 delegates from 16 countries. Twenty-nine papers were presented, converging the general subjects of modelling micro structures and predicting durability of concrete and other cement-based materials. A short summary follows: G. M. Idom's paper entitled "Modelling Research for Concrete Engineering" serves as an introduction to the workshop, presenting an overview of modelling research with the conelusion that the broad practica1 objective is to produce high-quality concrete. This means that many characteristics, ranging from rheology to alkali-silica reaction, must be modelled. In other words, the system must be understood. Idom's paper sets the stage for papers in two general areas: 1) models and 2) transport properties. After this, abrief survey of the develop ment of microstructurally-based models is presented. A elose relationship between computer power and speed is suggested. The first group of papers on models covers the subjects of scale and resolution. Most models define and predict characteristics of the pore system, which range in scale from nanometer to millimeter. Various types ofnetworks are proposed in these papers. A good microstructural model must describe the pores and other phases at ascale appropriate to the properties that the model predicts. Also, a good model should be based on fundamental knowledge. In the case of cement-based materials, the important properties may depend on the microstructure, especially the porosity, at several scales.

Transport Properties of Concrete by Peter A. Claisse Pdf

Transport Properties of Concrete: Modelling the Durability of Structures, Second Edition, covers how to measure transport properties and use the results to model performance. The transport properties of concrete and measurements of the ability of ions and fluids to move through the material. These properties largely determine the durability of concrete and of steel embedded within it, as well as the effectiveness of structures such as waste containment barriers. The book provides a comprehensive examination of the subject and will be of use to all concerned with the durability and effectiveness of concrete structures. Includes a new chapter on modelling the durability of concrete structures showing how both diffusion and pressure driven flow should be included Covers the problems that occur when carrying out transport tests on concrete incorporating both traditional and newer cement replacements Shows how properties such as permeabilty which are needed for modelling may be derived from in situ tests on structures

The First International Conference on Concrete Repair, Rehabilitation and Retrofitting (ICCRRR 2005) was held in Cape Town, South Africa, in November 2005. The conference was a collaborative venture by researchers from the South African Research Programme in Concrete Materials (based at the Universities of Cape Town and The Witwatersrand) and The Construction Materials Section at Leipzig University in Germany. The conference focused on appropriate repairing, maintaining, rehabilitating, and, if necessary, retrofitting existing infrastructure with a view to extending its life and maximising its economic return.

Workability and Quality Control of Concrete by G H Tattersall Pdf

Fresh concrete must be produced with the properties required for its intended applications, for example, it must be workable enough to flow into formwork, and to be compacted. This book deals with the measurement of the flow properties of fresh concrete and the factors which affect its workability. Aspects of concrete mixes and control of manufacture to produce optimum properties which relate to workability are covered.

Science of Carbon Storage in Deep Saline Formations by Pania Newell,Anastasia Ilgen Pdf

Science of Carbon Storage in Deep Saline Formations: Process Coupling across Time and Spatial Scales summarizes state-of-the-art research, emphasizing how the coupling of physical and chemical processes as subsurface systems re-equilibrate during and after the injection of CO2. In addition, it addresses, in an easy-to-follow way, the lack of knowledge in understanding the coupled processes related to fluid flow, geomechanics and geochemistry over time and spatial scales. The book uniquely highlights process coupling and process interplay across time and spatial scales that are relevant to geological carbon storage. Includes the underlying scientific research, as well as the risks associated with geological carbon storage Covers the topic of geological carbon storage from various disciplines, addressing the multi-scale and multi-physics aspects of geological carbon storage Organized by discipline for ease of navigation

Performance-Based Specifications and Control of Concrete Durability by Hans Beushausen,Luis Fernandez Luco Pdf

This work gives an overview of significant research from recent years concerning performance-based design and quality control for concrete durability and its implementation. In engineering practice, performance approaches are often still used in combination with prescriptive requirements. This is largely because, for most durability test methods, sufficient practical experience still has to be gained before engineers and owners are prepared to fully rely on them. This book, compiled by RILEM TC 230-PSC, is intended to assist efforts to successfully build the foundation for the full implementation of performance-based approaches through the exchange of relevant knowledge and experience between researchers and practitioners worldwide.
