Tristram's Treasures by Sally Coffin Pdf

I have created this artistic expression of a storybook version of the Coffin Family legacy, with original paintings, collages with vintage photos, into illustrations for a special coffee-table book, the true story of the seafaring Coffin Family legacy, connecting their historical homes, historical museums, and events, beginning in Normandy, France. The Norman Coffins lived in possession of Chateau Cortiton in 1066, which still stands today. After migrating to England with William the Conquerer in the 1200s, Sir Richard Coffin built Portledge Manor in Devonshire, England, also still standing today. In 1642, Tristram Coffin Sr. of Devonshire, England, with his family, left a civil war and was among the first of the race that settled in America. Living alternatively in the colony of Massachusetts, he arranged for the purchase of Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard by a company he organized of nine men on July 2, 1659. The fourth son of Tristram Coffin, Sr., was John Tristram Coffin, who was the first of the Coffins to take up residence on Martha's Vineyard and was a notable blacksmith and considerable owner of real estate. My family line is directly linked to John Coffin. He died on September 11, 1711, leaving the oldest headstone on Martha's Vineyard. Continuing is the story of Abigail Starbuck Coffin, doctor/midwife. She was a daughter of the Mormon pioneers who was caught in the western swirl of migration. Another connection is automobile magnate Howard E. Coffin, the Father of Standardization, predecessor of United Airlines, a prince of Detroit, and the king of the Georgia Coast. He shared in the visionary influence of his ancestors from Nantucket Island in the 1600s and thus extended Tristram Coffin's legacy to the southeastern Atlantic coast of Georgia. In this way, the original owners of Nantucket Island, Martha's Vineyard, and Sea Island, Georgia, connect over three hundred years, just one of many Coffin connections. To me, my ancestors are timeless. They are like a rare and treasured collection of antiques from a time gone by. They could be called, "Tristram's Treasures." Time can be eerie, especially when our ancestors have left behind so many indelible footprints all throughout American history. It's as though a part of them will never really be gone and that has inspired me to create a special storybook where they all belong, with their historical homes, museums, famous and epic stories, along with their outstanding achievements, monuments, and headstones, that even time can never erase. I invite you, the reader, through my original collages of artwork to follow me on this epic journey as we look at the Coffin Family legacy and the many connections they share throughout American history.

Out of the Crucible (Treasure Quest Book #2) by Marian Wells Pdf

Set against the rigors of frontier life in the West, Colorado Gold, was the dramatic first book in the new Treasure Quest historical fiction series. Bestselling author Marian Wells introduced her readers to Amy Randolph and Daniel Gerrett whose marriage started on shaky ground, nearly fell apart, and finally was restored. Out of the Crucible continues their story. As much as Amy loves Daniel, being the wife of an elder in the Methodist Episcopal Church during the circuit-riding days is difficult. Saying goodbye every Monday without knowing if he'll be back for the weekend, wondering if he's met up with Indians traveling between mining communities, the dreaded monotony and ruggedness of the mining town--her promise of love had been easy, but her commitment was being tested. Then into their lives breaks the Civil War. Since late 1861 the Texas Rangers have been pushing their way into New Mexico Territory, and a voluntary army from Colorado Territory is formed to defend their gold and their land. This finally takes place at the battle of Glorieta Pass with Amy and Daniel in the middle of it all! A powerful story of promises and commitments that challenge readers with a strong spiritual message.

The Silver Highway (Treasure Quest Book #3) by Marian Wells Pdf

North meets South with a mighty clash of wills, each side clinging stubornly to political ideals destined to separate families, ruin fortunes, and touch off a war that would devastate an entire nation. Some men and women, driven by principle, joined together, risking everything in order to protect a race of people that were considered to be less than human--a race that could be bought and sold as slaves, subject to the whims and abuses of their masters. This movement became known as the Underground Railroad. The Silver Highway portrays the lives of Alexander Duncan and Matthew Thomas as they are exposed to the abolitionist movement, quickly drawn into the cause, and lend a hand of helping slaves escape from their masters to the freedom of Canada. Meanwhile, Matt's sister Olivia befriends Crystal, a young Creole, while attending a boarding school out East. When Crystal is called home, dark rumors break out as to the reason. Once home, Crystal tries to piece together the puzzle surrounding her past--and uncovers foreboding secrets that threaten to destroy both her present and future.

Colorado Gold (Treasure Quest Book #1) by Marian Wells Pdf

A dynamic new fiction series from the author of The Wedding Dress Author Marian Wells has shown remarkable ability to both capture the hearts of readers and challenge them with a strong spiritual message. Colorado Gold begins a new historical fiction series, Treasure Quest, with an intriguing story set in the West when "gold fever" was at its height. Amy Randolph, a young lady from the east, has moved to a lonely Colorado mining town with her father, an itinerant evangelist. On the threshold of womanhood and having lost her mother as a child, Amy longs for an understanding mother-figure to guide her steps. But she feels more lost than ever being now separated from the familiar comforts of the East. The Christianity she had grown up with seems unreal in their new surroundings. Her strong desire to play the piano, even if it means learning from a dance hall girl, lures her into a double standard. Her confusion is multiplied when she and her friend Daniel are misjudged and find themselves in a compromised situation. Set against the rigors of life in the West, this story's message involves forgiveness and restoration of families--a marvelous redemptive theme.

Where Your Treasure Is by M.C. Bunn Pdf

Winifred is a feisty, independent-minded heiress who bridles against the strict rules and conventions of Victorian London society. When she gets caught up in the chaos of a bungled bank robbery, she is thrust unwillingly into an encounter with Court Furor, a reluctant getaway driver and prizefighter. Winifred and Court are two misfits in their own circumscribed worlds—the fashionable beau monde with its rigorously upheld rules, and the gritty demimonde, where survival often means life-or-death choices. Despite their conflicting backgrounds, they fall desperately in love while acknowledging the impossibility of remaining together. Returning to their own worlds, they try to make peace with their lives until a moment of unrestrained honesty and defiance threatens to topple the deceptions they have carefully constructed to protect each other. A story of the overlapping entanglements of Victorian London’s social classes, the strength of family bonds and friendship, and the power of love to heal a broken spirit.

The Dragon in the West by Daniel Ogden Pdf

An exploration of how the image and idea of the dragon has evolved through history How did the dragon get its wings? Everyone in the modern West has a clear idea of what a dragon looks like and of the sorts of stories it inhabits, not least devotees of the fantasies of J. R. R. Tolkien, J. K. Rowling, and George R. R. Martin. A cross between a snake and some fearsome mammal, often sporting colossal wings, they live in caves, lie on treasure, maraud, and breathe fire. They are extraordinarily powerful, but even so, ultimately defeated in their battles with humans. What is the origin of this creature? The Dragon in the West is the first serious and substantial account in any language of the evolution of the modern dragon from its ancient forebears. Daniel Ogden's detailed exploration begins with the drakōn of Greek myth and the draco of the dragon-loving Romans, and a look at the ancient world's female dragons. It brings the story forwards though Christian writings, medieval illustrated manuscripts, and the lives of dragon-duelling saints, before concluding with a study of dragons found in the medieval Germanic world, including those of the Anglo-Saxon Beowulf and the Norse sagas.
