True Digital Control by C. James Taylor,Peter C. Young,Arun Chotai Pdf

True Digital Control: Statistical Modelling andNon–Minimal State Space Designdevelops a true digitalcontrol design philosophy that encompasses data–basedmodel identification, through to control algorithm design, robustness evaluation and implementation. With a heritage from bothclassical and modern control system synthesis, this book issupported by detailed practical examples based on theauthors’ research into environmental, mechatronic and roboticsystems. Treatment of both statistical modelling and control designunder one cover is unusual and highlights the important connectionsbetween these disciplines. Starting from the ubiquitous proportional–integralcontroller, and with essential concepts such as pole assignmentintroduced using straightforward algebra and block diagrams, thisbook addresses the needs of those students, researchers andengineers, who would like to advance their knowledge of controltheory and practice into the state space domain; and academics whoare interested to learn more about non–minimal state variablefeedback control systems. Such non–minimal state feedback isutilised as a unifying framework for generalised digital controlsystem design. This approach provides a gentle learning curve, fromwhich potentially difficult topics, such as optimal, stochastic andmultivariable control, can be introduced and assimilated in aninteresting and straightforward manner. Key features: Covers both system identification and control systemdesign in a unified manner Includes practical design case studies and simulationexamples Considers recent research into time–variable andstate–dependent parameter modelling and control, essentialelements of adaptive and nonlinear control system design, and thedelta–operator (the discrete–time equivalent of thedifferential operator) systems Accompanied by a website hosting MATLAB examples True Digital Control: Statistical Modelling andNon–Minimal State Space Design is a comprehensive andpractical guide for students and professionals who wish to furthertheir knowledge in the areas of modern control and systemidentification.

Managing Power Electronics by Nazzareno Rossetti Pdf

A unique system focus that presents specific solutions for specific appliances This publication presents state-of-the-art power management techniques for modern electronic appliances that rely on such very large-scale integration (VLSI) chips as CPUs and DSPs. The author thoroughly covers all aspects of the field, including semiconductor manufacturing processes, packages, circuits, functions, and systems. A unique and significant contribution to the field, the publication adopts a "system focus" by first presenting the appliance and then delving into the power management architecture and topologies that best serve each appliance. In addition to specific techniques and applications, the publication discusses fundamental physical and socioeconomic issues. For example, the author examines Moore's law and its effect on power management and heat dissipation, which points to a future breakthrough needed to continue the fast pace of advancement in the high-tech industry. The author provides a solid technical foundation and an analysis of popular electronic appliances, including: * Overview of the semiconductor industry * Plain-English discussion of semiconductor processes and packages * Step-by-step guide to analog design building from the transistor to higher-level functions, leading to the implementation of a complete voltage regulator * Popular DC-DC voltage regulation architectures * AC-DC architectures for power conversion * Ultra-portable devices, such as cellular phones, PDAs, and digital still cameras * Desktop and notebook PCs The publication concludes with a chapter on special power management topics and an expert forecast of future directions for the field. This is essential reading for researchers, engineers, and designers in the semiconductor and integrated circuits industries. With its extensive use of cross-section drawings as well as transistor circuit schematics, this is also a recommended textbook for advanced undergraduate and graduate courses in computer science and electrical engineering.

Optimal Control of Greenhouse Cultivation by Gerrit van Straten,Gerard van Willigenburg,Eldert van Henten,Rachel van Ooteghem Pdf

Greenhouse control system manufacturers produce equipment and software with hundreds of settings and, while they hold training courses on how to adjust these settings, there is as yet no integrated instruction on when or why. Despite rapid growth in the greenhouse industry, growers are still faced with a multitude of variables and no unifying framework from which to choose the best option. Consolidating 30 years of research in greenhouse climate control, Optimal Control of Greenhouse Cultivation utilizes mathmatical models to incorporate the wealth of scientific knowledge into a feasible optimal control methodology for greenhouse crop cultivation. Discussing several different paradigms on greenhouse climate control, it integrates the current research into physical modeling of the greenhouse climate in response to heating, ventilation, and other control variables with the biological modeling of variables such as plant evapo-transpiration and growth. Key topics include state-space greenhouse and crop modeling needed for the design of integrated optimal controllers that exploit rather than mitigate outside weather conditions, especially sunlight, given widely different time scales. The book reviews classical rule-based and multivariable feedback controllers in comparison with the optimal hierarchical control paradigm. It considers real and hypothetical examples including lettuce, tomato, and solar greenhouses and examines experimental results of greenhouse climate control using optimal control software. The book concludes with a discussion of open issues as well as future perspectives and challenges. Providing a tool to automatically determine the most economical controls and settings for their operation, this much-needed book relieves growers of unnecessary control tasks, and allows them to achieve the best possible trade-off between short term savings and optimal harvest yield.

Identification of Continuous-Time Systems by N.K. Sinha,G.P. Rao Pdf

In view of the importance of system identification, the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC) and the International Federation of Operational Research Societies (IFORS) hold symposia on this topic every three years. Interest in continuous time approaches to system identification has been growing in recent years. This is evident from the fact that the of invited sessions on continuous time systems has increased from one in the 8th number Symposium that was held in Beijing in 1988 to three in the 9th Symposium in Budapest in 1991. It was during the 8th Symposium in August 1988 that the idea of bringing together important results on the topic of Identification of continuous time systems was conceived. Several distinguished colleagues, who were with us in Beijing at that time, encouraged us by promising on the spot to contribute to a comprehensive volume of collective work. Subsequently, we contacted colleagues all over the world, known for their work in this area, with a formal request to contribute to the proposed volume. The response was prompt and overwhelmingly encouraging. We sincerely thank all the authors for their valuable contributions covering various aspects of identification of continuous time systems.
