Fort Eben Emael by Simon Dunstan Pdf

At the outbreak of World War II, Fort Eben Emael in Belgium was the strongest fortress in the world, and it lay exactly across the German invasion route of Belgium and France. The fort's elimination was essential for the success of Hitler's invasion of the West. Deemed impregnable to conventional attack, Hitler himself suggested the means for its capture with the first glider-borne assault in military history. On 10 May 1940, ten gliders carrying just 77 paratroopers landed on top of the fort. Using top-secret hollow-charge weapons for the first time in warfare, the assault pioneers of Sturmgruppe Granit subdued Fort Eben Emael within just 30 minutes, and the fortress surrendered within 30 hours. It remains one of the greatest raids in the annals of Special Forces.

The Atlas of Special Operations of World War II by Alex Swanston Pdf

As author Alex Swanston explains in his introduction, “World War II was a truly global conflict, involving almost all nations in the struggle to stop the spread of totalitarianism. This meant that battles were fought in all climates and on all sorts of terrain. . . . Technology had also progressed, meaning that war could be fought under the surface of the sea or in the air 40,000 feet above. This unique scenario involving all aspects of the military meant that specialist units bloomed, using the rough ground or unique setting to their advantage.” The Atlas of Special Operations of World War II covers special operations from all parts of the armed forces of the Second World War. From early Fallschirmjager raids to capture strategic targets to the massed airdrops of Operation Market Garden, from the low level raids of the Dam Busters to small scale Commando raids along the Norwegian coast, it covers the formation of specific units, why and how they were employed and details the outcomes of their actions and how these operations affected the wider war. The raids, carried out by select and specially trained men and women of the Allied and Axis forces, are covered from the deserts of North Africa and the Cold Balkan mountains to the deep jungle of Burma and the vast openness of the Pacific Ocean. Featuring eighty photographs and more than one hundred maps detailing the operations, The Atlas of Special Operations of World War II is perfect for anyone who wants to see how the war was really fought—and won! Skyhorse Publishing, as well as our Arcade imprint, are proud to publish a broad range of books for readers interested in history--books about World War II, the Third Reich, Hitler and his henchmen, the JFK assassination, conspiracies, the American Civil War, the American Revolution, gladiators, Vikings, ancient Rome, medieval times, the old West, and much more. While not every title we publish becomes a New York Times bestseller or a national bestseller, we are committed to books on subjects that are sometimes overlooked and to authors whose work might not otherwise find a home.

The Maiden Maverick by Todd Daley Pdf

The Maiden Maverick As a result of Hal’s untimely death, Nancy Perez is living alone in a post Covid-24 world, where the country has lost three-fourths of its population. Basic government services like police, fire, sanitation, and post office are nonexistent—along with electric power and phone service. Coal stoves are used to cook food and heat homes. The Elm Park neighborhood has banded together to obtain food, shelter, and security. Reminiscent of the old west, everyone carries a gun – the ubiquitous 22-caliper handgun. On a nighttime walk to the Kill van Kull, Nancy meets Sam Worthington, a husky black man, with a troubled past. He becomes a guardian – stopping abuses of Darren Trupp’s Brown Shirts who barge into people’s homes – stealing valuables and assaulting women. The Truppers use drones equipped with cameras and lasers to surveille and attack individuals they deem to be rebels. The Resistance is coordinated by Gerald Hopkins from his office in Wolstein’s factory. Hopkins and his aide, Mason, provide Nancy and Sam with guns, bullets, grenades and dynamite to fight the Truppers. There’s a plan by the Truppers to sabotage a coal-powered generating plant – shutting down power to the North Shore. Nancy, Sam, Freddy, Billy, and others engage the Brown Shirts in a gun battle outside the plant – routing them into the swamps of Travis. After the gun battle at the power plant, Sam moves in with Nancy. Soon, an old Army tank appears on Eggert’s Field, the grass-and-flower filled field across the street. A well-aimed grenade takes care of the tank, but a new challenge appears in the form of a refurbished World War Ii destroyer.

German Airborne Divisions by Bruce Quarrie Pdf

The German Army of World War II was the first to fully realise the benefits of using airborne troops alongside armoured formations. German Airborne Divisions became an integral part of the blitzkrieg operations that overran much of Western Europe during 1940 and 1941, from the historic raid on the Belgian fortress of Eben-Emael to the pyrrhic victory over British and Commonwealth forces on the island of Crete. This title looks at the creation, evolution, and early operational deployment of the German airborne forces ('Fallschirmtruppe'), through highly detailed orders of battle, TOEs and examinations of crucial aspects such as doctrine, training, command and control, and the concept of vertical envelopment.

Hard Time & Nursery Rhymes by Claudia Trupp Pdf

What kind of woman leaves three young daughters at home every morning to spend her days representing convicted murderers and rapists? That is the question criminal defense attorney Claudia Trupp confronts in this sharp and riveting memoir as she seeks answers—for herself and, mostly, for her daughters. Every working mother faces the challenges of balancing work and home, but the nature of Trupp's work makes her juggling act all the more precarious—and at times hilarious and bizarre. Trupp's domestic anecdotes of life with her kids run parallel to narratives of her most memorable, and often unsettling, criminal cases, each providing a platform to explore broader issues such as faith, perspective, and charm. The navigation of radically different realms—the criminal courts and maximum security prisons where clients serve hard time, and the home front where children demand marshmallows for breakfast—provides thought-provoking and entertaining reading. While the working mother has been a popular subject of fiction and self-help guides, this may be the only book offering a woman's deeply personal and unapologetic account of how embracing a challenging job while simultaneously guiding a family reaps unexpected benefits on both fronts. In a memoir that will resonate powerfully with all women, Trupp candidly conveys to the reader and to her daughters the struggles and rewards of the conflicting roles in her life, the joy she has found in being a mother, and the value of meaningful work.

The Elm Park Time Travelers by Todd Daley Pdf

A merry-go-round sitting on a beached barge in the murky waters of the Kill van Kull is discovered. The story takes place in the post covid-20 era when local and state governments have slashed their budgets. Three men from Elm Park attach a rope to the barge truck and pull it onto the litter-strewn shore. It would be a nice diversion for kids in the neighborhood, where schools are closed and shopping malls shuttered. Freddy and Hank help Gregg chain the merry-go-round to his flatbed truck and haul it to Eggert’s Field in Elm Park on Staten Island’s north shore. The three men repair its gasoline engine and replace a broken horse with a chair. Nancy, a woman in her 30s, helps with the cleanup of the merry-go-round. On the advice of Lora, a clairvoyant, Nancy and Freddy place magnets along the whirligig’s circumference. Immediately, it begins to glow and a high-pitched sound emanates from the amusement ride. Staring into her crystal ball, Lora asserts that the people can take time trips while holding a large horseshoe magnet found in the area. Apparently, there’s a connection between magnetic fields and time travel. The story depicts colorful characters: Nancy, deadly accurate with a gun, Lora, crystal-ball gazer, Freddy, energetic octogenarian, Charlie, a retired detective, Mildred, the prim woman, Rev Staller, soapbox preacher, Billy, side talker to his invisible sidekick, Blanche, ex-gogo dancer, Dr. Emil, alcoholic doctor and his young assistant Alfred. A trio of villains, Darren Trupp, David Bloom, and Lance Landum, appear from time to time – forcing Nancy and her friends to deal with them –ultimately dispatching the trio to a fishing village in the Caribbean.
