Truths That Abide (Classic Reprint) by W. W. Dawley Pdf

Excerpt from Truths That Abide How Known. Who is God? What is he like? Can we know him? Has he given mankind any means of getting acquainted with him? These are the anxious queries of human hearts, yearning to know more of the Creator of a universe. God has made himself knowable through his works, the things that he has put round about men in the world where they live. The first witness that attracted the attention of humankind was the nature about them with its starry skies, its myriad wonders its mysterious forces, its matchless beauties, and its marvelous adaptableness to human needs. That was man's primer on God, his first lessons concerning his Creator. But a fuller revelation of the Lord is treasured up for seeking souls in the choicest and best of all literatures, the Bible, wherein God tells us more of his nature, his ways of working, his purposes and love than we have been able to_dis cover in the volume of the skies, or the sea, or the earth. Then God has shown to the world the very image of himself and the Shining of his glory in the person of Jesus Christ, who was in the form of God, and in whom God speaks to men. Truth and Counter Truth (Classic Reprint) by Thomas Richey Pdf

Excerpt from Truth and Counter Truth The rule now laid down with regard to Omnipotence and free will, holds in the case of nearly all the mysteries of revealed religion; for it is characteristic of them all that it is to a biune or complex, and not to a simple ar ticle of belief our assent is asked. The Unity of the God head, for example, is, as a truth, absolute and unqualified at the same time, we must remember that the manner in which the One Godhead exists is not such as to forbid a plurality of persons in it and vice versa, the notion of plurality is not such as to militate against the Unity of the Divine substance. We are neither to confound the persons, nor to divide the substance. We are taught to believe, in like manner, that in the person of our Lord Jesus Christ, the perfect Godhead exists; yet the manner of its existence is not such as to swallow up, notwith standing its glory, the proper humanity; there is a per feet Humanity, yet it is not such as to exclude, notwith standing it weakness, the perfect Godhead. Excerpt from The Divine Authority of the Old and New Testament Asserted Pretenfion to this Charaéter. I would be one Of the lafl to charge any Man with a Want of Honefiy and Sincerity: but there are ma ny Things in his Book that look like a wilful Perverfion and Mifreprefentation of Faéts, as well as Arguments and fometimes fo circum fianced, that it is fcarce pofiible for the molt extenfive Charity to fuppofe that it'was owing to mere Ignorance. Perhaps the Author him felf would not be willing to accept of this A pology. I cannot help looking upon it as an Honour to Chrifiianity, that its Adveifaries find themfelves obliged to take fuch Methods as thefe, in order to carry on their Defigns a gainft it. Christian Truths Lectures (Classic Reprint) by Francis Silas Chatard Pdf

Excerpt from Christian Truths Lectures My aim in publishing this book has been to furnish our young Catholics with a manual which will be useful to them in meeting the vital questions of the day in a manner suited f?) parry the attacks against the faith. The only merit I may claim for it is that I have striven to be very exact in all my quotations, having, as far as memory serves me, verified them all in the best editionsbefore using them, where that was possible. Certainly, no one need feel himself in any danger of going astray in trusting the citations. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. 'Grace and Truth' by W. P. Mackay Pdf

Excerpt from Grace and Truth: Under Twelve Different Aspects 'The law was given by Moses: grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.' The law showed what man ought to be. Christ showed what man is, and what God is. The law was given but grace and truth came. Calvary tells out fully what man's true state is, what Gods truth is, and what grace means. The law is what I ought to be to God: Grace tells what God is for me. The first word of law is 'Thou;' the first of grace is 'God, ' so loved; but it is grace through truth. God has investigated everything, nothing has been looked over. The greatest sin that any man could possibly commit has been committed, namely, the murder of Gods Son. At the same time the greatest grace of God has been manifested. Man by nature likes neither grace nor truth. He is satisfied neither with perfect justice nor perfect goodness. If John the Baptist comes in righteousness he is hated, and men say he is too harsh, and not human, but hath a devil. If Christ comes in love. He is taunted with being a friend of sinners. So when the righteous requirements of God's law are preached, many people are apt to turn and say, 'Oh yes, but that is too strict; you must allow a little margin for our imperfection.' God says, make no provision for the flesh. Alas! it will take far too much, but allow it nothing. When a sanctified walk, separated from the world and all its belongings, is insisted on, a certain class are sure to call this legal preaching. And on the other hand when the grace of God is preached, man's wisdom makes it out to be toleration of evil and lawless license. Let us suppose that a convict, who had just finished his term of penal servitude, wished to lead an honest life. He comes to a man who has a large jewellery establishment, and who requires a night-watchman. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Half Truths and the Truth by J. M. Manning Pdf

Excerpt from Half Truths and the Truth: Lectures on the Origin and Development of Prevailing Forms of Unbelief, Considered in Relation to the Nature and Claims of the Christian System The invidious use of this term in theological contro versy must strike all fair minds as the extreme of Invidious meanness and cowardly na manliness. It always alfrgf the injures the cause in whose behalf it is employed. When not a confession of weakness, it is 'a blunder. All are repelled by it, save those whom prejudice or rude pas sion has blinded nor does it influence even these, except for the time being. Though the poisoned arrow with which a prostrate antagonist seeks to wound his cou queror, though the desperate cry by which he summons to his rescue the pack of ignorant and noisy zealots, yet it ever fails to deliver him, while at the same time it makes his defeat doubly disgraceful. Glimpses of the Truth as It Is in Jesus (Classic Reprint) by Octavius Winslow Pdf

Excerpt from Glimpses of the Truth as It Is in Jesus The light to shine out of darkness, hath not shined in his heart to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. Oh what is the real value of all his boasted knowledge apart from this? What though the philosopher has ransacked all the mysteries of nature, if he is yet ignorant of the God of nature, as revealed through Christ? What though the astronomer revels amidst the glories of the material heavens, if he is experimentally unacquainted with the path by which he may arrive at the glories of the heaven of heavens? What though the geometrician may be able to measure all quantity, if he has not bestowed a serious thought upon the measureless eternity upon which he is soon to enter? And what though the physician, skilled in the science of healing, is able to baf e every form of bodily disease, if he has no knowledge, in the cure of his own moral distemper, of the balm that is in Gilead, and of the Physician who is there? We ask, what real good, as it regards themselves, does it avail? None whatever. See the vanity of all human knowledge, weighed with the momentous interests of an eternal world, save that which makes us wise unto salvation. The Greatest Truth by Horatio W. Dresser Pdf

Excerpt from The Greatest Truth: And Other Discourses and Interpretations Groups, assembled there in unity of spirit. I wandered from group to group and from chapel to chapel. As I walked, the walls and columns seemed to rise and grow before me, so that I found no end; and interior after interior Opened in the soft distance. If I stepped out into the joyous light of day, I still seemed to be Within the walls. More over, the Whole scene varied from time to time, as I reascended the heights to the great Church.
