Tunnel Vision by Susan Adrian Pdf

Romance and action come crashing together in Susan Adrian's Tunnel Vision in which a teenage boy with incredible powers is brought to the attention of the government. Jake Lukin just turned 18. He's decent at tennis and Halo, and waiting to hear on his app to Stanford. But he's also being followed by a creep with a gun, and there's a DARPA agent waiting in his bedroom. His secret is blown. When Jake holds a personal object, like a pet rock or a ring, he has the ability to "tunnel" into the owner. He can sense where they are, like a human GPS, and can see, hear, and feel what they do. It's an ability the government would do anything to possess: a perfect surveillance unit who could locate fugitives, spies, or terrorists with a single touch. Jake promised his dad he'd never tell anyone about his ability. But his dad died two years ago, and Jake slipped. If he doesn't agree to help the government, his mother and sister may be in danger. Suddenly he's juggling high school, tennis tryouts, flirting with Rachel Watkins, and work as a government asset, complete with 24-hour bodyguards. Forced to lie to his friends and family, and then to choose whether to give up everything for their safety, Jake hopes the good he's doing—finding kidnap victims and hostages, and tracking down terrorists—is worth it. But he starts to suspect the good guys may not be so good after all. With Rachel's help, Jake has to try to escape both good guys and bad guys and find a way to live his own life instead of tunneling through others.

Tunnel Vision by Kevin Breathnach Pdf

Tunnel Vision is a book unlike any other. A documentary of the narrator's post-adolescent relationships; an account of time in Chemnitz, Bergen, Dublin, Paris, Gwangju, Munich and Madrid; an exploration in artifice and honesty; an autobiography of a compulsive liar whose intimate portrayals of political inaction, sexual repression, masculinities in crisis and addiction to drugs and pornography collide with six piercingly intelligent critical essays - written with the narrative precision of John Berger, Janet Malcolm or Teju Cole - on photographic self-portraiture and the personal diary. Whether writing about the sale of Susan Sontag's archive, or the reframing of André Kertész's wedding photograph, Breathnach's writing - brave, wild, and genre-bending - inaugurates a dazzling new voice in art and literature.

Tunnel Vision by N. P. Simpson Pdf

“Vivid prose plunges the reader into the politically fraught, self-contained world of a military base” and a chilling true case of triple murder (Linda Landrigan, editor of Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine). Carlton “Butch” Smith was a troubled teenager who’d been kicked out of school for aggressive behavior. His parents lived at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, in Jacksonville, North Carolina, and when Butch was home with them, his life was fairly normal. But that all changed on August, 24, 1981, when Butch’s sister, aunt, and cousin were found slain in his parents’ house. It was a horrifying crime that shook the Marine base community, not to mention the Smith family—especially when Butch was named the prime suspect. In Tunnel Vision, reporter and true crime author N. P. Simpson delves into this young man’s harrowing past. She also provides a detailed chronicle of the grisly murders and the complex case that followed—a case of conflicting confessions, a mysterious second suspect who was never found, and difficult questions of jurisdiction between military, state, and federal courts.

Tunnel vision? by Great Britain: Parliament: House of Lords: European Union Committee Pdf

The Channel Tunnel's full potential is yet to be unlocked. Focusing particularly on the Channel Tunnel's role in connecting the passenger and freight rail network in Europe, the Committee's seven-month long inquiry has heard from a variety of rail experts including the Chief Executive of Eurostar, representatives from Eurotunnel and Deutsche Bahn and Transport Minister Theresa Villiers MP. The key recommendations from the committee are: i) the EU should ensure the full implementation of the Railway Packages in all Member States, to ensure fair access for all; ii) the terms of the Treaty of Canterbury (the agreement that allowed the Channel Tunnel's construction) should be reviewed, in order to move towards direct governance of the Tunnel by the UK and French national regulators; iii) safety standards used across the EU should apply in full in the Tunnel; iv) access charges should be reviewed and reduced, to ensure a better deal for operators and passengers; v) Border controls should be examined and streamlined, to encourage new international services to be developed; vi) priority for EU funding for rail infrastructure should be given to projects contributing to economic growth at a critical time for the Union, with conditions attached to ensure that new rail developments ensure fair access and are compatible with rail networks across the EU; vii)consumer interests must be paramount. Member States must increase the importance and awareness of passenger rights, and ensure that tickets can be booked conveniently and in an integrated way to allow for easier and less bureaucratic international train travel

Perou / Hyde: Tunnel Vision by Anonim Pdf

A passion project from celebrated portrait photographer Perou with accompanying text from Karl Hyde of dance music duo Underworld, Tunnel Vision is a hypnotic portrait of England's underpasses. Photographed at night, you can almost hear the ominous hum of the broken strip-lighting, the knot of fear in the gut, the prickling silence of these desolate, urban landscapes. These unloved spaces are notoriously menacing, graffiti-ridden, inconvenient and prone to flooding. Yet through Perou's lens, the architecture is also elevated to something beyond itself, at times even ethereal.

“A detailed and engaging account of the development of the superconducting supercollider, one of the largest scientific undertakings in the United States.” —Journal of American History Starting in the 1950s, US physicists dominated the search for elementary particles; aided by the association of this research with national security, they held this position for decades. In an effort to maintain their hegemony and track down the elusive Higgs boson, they convinced President Reagan and Congress to support construction of the multibillion-dollar Superconducting Super Collider project in Texas—the largest basic-science project ever attempted. But after the Cold War ended and the estimated SSC cost surpassed ten billion dollars, Congress terminated the project in October 1993. Drawing on extensive archival research, contemporaneous press accounts, and over one hundred interviews with scientists, engineers, government officials, and others involved, Tunnel Visions tells the riveting story of the aborted SSC project. The authors examine the complex, interrelated causes for its demise, including problems of large-project management, continuing cost overruns, and lack of foreign contributions. In doing so, they ask whether Big Science has become too large and expensive, including whether academic scientists and their government overseers can effectively manage such an enormous undertaking. “Focusing on the scientific, technical, and political conflicts that led to delays, ever rising costs, and eventually the SSC’s cancelation by Congress, Tunnel Visions is a true techno-thriller.” —Burton Richter, winner of the Nobel Prize in Physics “Most good science stories are tales of discovery and success, but failure can be just as riveting. Here two historians and an archivist describe the greatest particle physics experiment that never was.” —Scientific American
