Ubiquitous Radio Sensing by Martin Schmidhammer Pdf

Many applications in the emerging smart environments, such as smart cities and intelligent transportation, require an accurate situational awareness, i.e., information about presence and location of all users in the environment. A reliable situational awareness is based on robust communications and sensing techniques, as well as large-scale deployment. Therefore, an integration of sensing functionality is envisioned as a native capability of next generation wireless networks. This work provides a novel radio sensing approach for the localization of non-cooperative users, referred to as multipath-enhanced device-free localization (MDFL). For localization, MDFL exploits user-induced variations in the received power of static signal components, i.e., line-of-sight and multipath components. Due to its low computational complexity, the proposed MDFL approach represents a suitable technique for the emerging perceptive wireless networks and can help to enable ubiquitous radio sensing.

Microsensing Networks for Sustainable Cities by Johannes Lambrechts,Saurabh Sinha Pdf

This book explores the microsensing technologies and systems now available to monitor the quality of air and water within the urban environment and examines their role in the creation of sustainable cities against the background of the challenges posed by rapid urbanization. The opening section addresses the theoretical and conceptual background of microsensing networks. The coverage includes detailed description of microsensors, supported by design-specific equations, and clear explanation of the ways in which devices that harvest energy from ambient sources can detect and quantify pollution. The practical application of such systems in addressing environmental impacts within cities and in sustainable urban planning is then discussed with the aid of case studies in developing countries. The book will be of interest to all who wish to understand the benefits of microsensing networks in promoting sustainable cities through better delivery of information on health hazards and improved provision of data to environmental agencies and regulatory bodies in order to assist in monitoring, decision-making, and regulatory enforcement.

Integrated Sensing and Communications by Fan Liu,Christos Masouros,Yonina C. Eldar Pdf

The coming generations of wireless network technologies will serve, not only as a means of connecting physical and digital environments, but also to set the foundation for an intelligent world in which all aspects are interconnected, sensed, and endowed with intelligence. Beyond merely providing communication capabilities, future networks will have the capacity to "see" and interpret the physical world. This development compels us to re-imagine the design of current communication infrastructures and terminals, taking into account crucial aspects such as fundamental constraints and tradeoffs, information extraction and processing technologies, issues of public security and privacy, as well as the emergence of numerous new applications. This field of research is known as Integrated Sensing and Communications (ISAC), and it has ushered in a paradigm shift towards the omnipresence of radio devices. This book provides the first comprehensive introduction to the ISAC theoretical and practical framework. Each chapter is authored by a group of world-leading experts, including over 10 IEEE Fellows. Readers can expect to gain both a broad overview and detailed technical insights into the latest ISAC innovations.

Proceedings of the International Conference on Ubiquitous Computing & Ambient Intelligence (UCAmI 2022) by José Bravo,Sergio Ochoa,Jesús Favela Pdf

This book reports a set of novel research initiatives on ambient intelligence and ubiquitous computing that help researchers and practitioners identify recent advances, as well as the frontiers in these study domains. During the last two decades, both study areas have gained great interest in industry and academia due to the benefits of using smart solutions in various application domains, such as health care, ambient-assisted living, personal security and privacy, citizen participation, provision of urban services, and precision agriculture and farming. The articles included in this book report solutions and provide empirical results on their suitability to address problems and opportunities in these application domains. The articles also include discussions on how the proposals and their evaluation results inform the design of the next generation of ubiquitous and smart systems. Researchers, practitioners, and graduate students take advantage of this knowledge to address innovation and engineering aspects of smart and ubiquitous solutions for the next decade.

Spatial Analysis in Health Geography by Pavlos Kanaroglou,Eric Delmelle Pdf

Presenting current research on spatial epidemiology, this book covers topics such as exposure, chronic disease, infectious disease, accessibility to health care settings and new methods in Geographical Information Science and Systems. For epidemiologists, and for the management and administration of health care settings, it is critical to understand the spatial dynamics of disease. For instance, it is crucial that hospital administrators develop an understanding of the flow of patients over time, especially during an outbreak of a particular disease, so they can plan for appropriate levels of staffing and to carry out adaptive prevention measures. Furthermore, understanding where and why a disease occurs at a certain geographic location is vital for decision makers to formulate policy to increase the accessibility to health services (either by prevention, or adding new facilities). Spatial epidemiology relies increasingly on new methodologies, such as clustering algorithms, visualization and space-time modelling, the domain of Geographic Information Science. Implementation of those techniques appears at an increasing pace in commercial Geographic Information Systems, alongside more traditional techniques that are already part of such systems. This book provides the latest methods in GI Science and their use in health related problems.

Science & Technology in China: A Roadmap to 2050 by Anonim Pdf

China’s modernization is viewed as a transformative revolution in the human history of modernization. As such, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) decided to give higher priority to the research on the science and technology (S&T) roadmap for priority areas in China’s modernization process. What is the purpose? And why is it? Is it a must? I think those are substantial and signifcant questions to start things forward. Significance of the Research on China’s S&T Roadmap to 2050 We are aware that the National Mid- and Long-term S&T Plan to 2020 has already been formed afer two years’ hard work by a panel of over 2000 experts and scholars brought together from all over China, chaired by Premier Wen Jiabao. Tis clearly shows that China has already had its S&T blueprint to 2020. Ten, why did CAS conduct this research on China’s S&T roadmap to 2050? In the summer of 2007 when CAS was working out its future strategic priorities for S&T development, it realized that some issues, such as energy, must be addressed with a long-term view. As a matter of fact, some strategic researches have been conducted, over the last 15 years, on energy, but mainly on how to best use of coal, how to best exploit both domestic and international oil and gas resources, and how to develop nuclear energy in a discreet way. Renewable energy was, of course, included but only as a supplementary energy.
