Ultrasonic Acoustic Characteristics of Air Bubbles in the Surf Zone by Trevor A. McIntyre Pdf

Understanding the movement of sediment in the nearshore region due to wave motion and longshore currents is important in beach erosion studies, and has tactical significance in beach front mine warfare. In the surf zone, an bubbles and sediment are both suspended within the water column. At the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, a sediment flux probe has been developed to study small scale processes. Using ultrasonic acoustic backscatter, the Coherent Acoustic Sediment Flux Probe (CASP) is capable of tracking the movement of scatterers within the surf zone. As it is important that the CASP system is capable of distinguishing between sediment and entrained air bubbles, laboratory experiments were run to determine the ultrasonic acoustic backscatter characteristics of surf zone bubbles. Bulk void fraction and optical sizing methods were explored to develop a means of measuring bubble populations produced in the laboratory for calibration of the backscattered energy received by the CASP system in the presence of bubbles.

The Propagation of Ultrasonic Waves in Gas-containing Suspensions by Natalia Morkun,Andrii Pikilniak,Vladimir Morkun Pdf

This book presents the results of research in the field of automated systems for the monitoring and control of technological processes of mining production. It offers the first mathematical description of Lamb waves’ propagation processes on surfaces in contact with randomly heterogeneous media (gas-containing suspensions). It is also the first book to explore the analytical dependencies of the attenuation values of Lamb and volume ultrasound waves on the number, size, density, and other characteristics of heterogeneous media during their natural and specially organized movements.

Output Measurements for Medical Ultrasound by Roy C. Preston Pdf

Medical applications of ultrasound range from therapy, foetal monitoring, diagnostic imaging and blood flow measurement, to surgery and lithotripsy. Ever since the earliest developments of medical ultrasound there has been an interest in the measurement and characterisation of the ultrasonic fields generated in these applications, either for assessment of performance of equipment or for safety. Until recently, procedures for acoustic output measurements were ill-defined, but standards are now being developed internationally by the International Electrotechnical Commission (1EC) and reliable commercial measuring equipment is becoming more widely available. The aim of this book is to introduce acoustic output measurement techniques and to provide an insight into the measurement methods. The material presented is based on a course originally run during November 1989 at the National Physical Laboratory. In addition to the lectures, the course consisted of a series of practicals to allow participants to gain experience of making measurements. Teddington, UK Roy C. The Acoustic Bubble by T Leighton Pdf

The Acoustic Bubble describes the interaction of acoustic fields with bubbles in liquid. The book consists of five chapters. Chapter 1 provides a basic introduction to acoustics, including some of the more esoteric phenomena that can be seen when high-frequency high-intensity underwater sound is employed. Chapter 2 discusses the nucleation of cavitation and basic fluid dynamics, while Chapter 3 draws together the acoustics and bubble dynamics to discuss the free oscillation of a bubble and acoustic emissions from such activity. The acoustic probes that are often applied to study the behavior of a bubble when an externally-applied acoustic field drives it into oscillation is deliberated in Chapter 4. The last chapter outlines a variety of effects associated with acoustically-induced bubble activity. The bubble detection, sonoluminescence, sonochemistry, and pulse enhancement are also covered. This publication is a good reference for physics and engineering students and researchers intending to acquire knowledge of the acoustic interactions of acoustic fields with bubbles.
