Winning the Battles of Life & Making Heaven by Abraham Adoke Pdf

It is written “Heaven, even the heavens are the Lord’s. But the earth He has given to the children of men”.( PS 115:16). A dramatic change over the ownership of the earth occurred the day Lucifer, that serpent and great dragon was knocked out of the presence of God in heaven and he landed on earth with great wrath. Quickly, the son of perdition compartmentalized the second heaven and allotted spheres of influence to the angels who fell down from heaven with him. The time came for heaven to end the destructive ministry of the devil and Jesus came for our redemption. Yet, a great number of the sons of men blinded by the institutions of Belial remain in captivity and they were not free from the onslaught of the dragon. Hearing from the Father's Heart by Erma Danley Pdf

The youngest of seven children, Erma was raised by elderly parents. Approval and affection were scarce. Learning that achievement meant approval and being right meant acceptance, she pushed herself to perform. She graduated as valedictorian of her high school class. A few weeks later Erma married Harold, the Korean War veteran and charming bad-boy. She believed that if only she could be good enough, he would truly love her and show it by changing into the man she dreamed he could be. When their first child arrived, they called her Teena. She was the apple of her father's eye. But tragedy struck when their second child came along. Timmy died at three days old, and Erma went home from the hospital with empty arms and a broken heart. The wounds from such a loss heal slowly, if at all. Harold's inability or unwillingness to discuss the death of their son deepened Erma's heartache. Three years later they were blessed to have another son they named Curtis. Her marriage to Harold lasted 35 troubled years before he lost his battle with diabetic complications from an injury sustained in the war. But pain is not her full story. Through it all, Erma learned what it means to be comforted and accepted. She learned what it means to be held, secured, valued and cared for. And she learned those things in the arms of the Father who walked with her in the pain. The book you hold in your hand is not a narrative of her life; it is the whisperings she heard in the night. Along the way, she developed the skill of Hearing from the Father's Heart. She learned what it means to be loved. And now... you get to listen in.

Muslims and Matriarchs by Jeffrey Hadler Pdf

Muslims and Matriarchs is a history of an unusual, probably heretical, and ultimately resilient cultural system. The Minangkabau culture of West Sumatra, Indonesia, is well known as the world's largest matrilineal culture; Minangkabau people are also Muslim and famous for their piety. In this book, Jeffrey Hadler examines the changing ideas of home and family in Minangkabau from the late eighteenth century to the 1930s. Minangkabau has experienced a sustained and sometimes violent debate between Muslim reformists and preservers of indigenous culture. During a protracted and bloody civil war of the early nineteenth century, neo-Wahhabi reformists sought to replace the matriarchate with a society modeled on that of the Prophet Muhammad. In capitulating, the reformists formulated an uneasy truce that sought to find a balance between Islamic law and local custom. With the incorporation of highland West Sumatra into the Dutch empire in the aftermath of this war, the colonial state entered an ongoing conversation. These existing tensions between colonial ideas of progress, Islamic reformism, and local custom ultimately strengthened the matriarchate. The ferment generated by the trinity of oppositions created social conditions that account for the disproportionately large number of Minangkabau leaders in Indonesian politics across the twentieth century. The endurance of the matriarchate is testimony to the fortitude of local tradition, the unexpected flexibility of reformist Islam, and the ultimate weakness of colonialism. Muslims and Matriarchs is particularly timely in that it describes a society that experienced a neo-Wahhabi jihad and an extended period of Western occupation but remained intellectually and theologically flexible and diverse.

A Supreme Desire to Please Him by E.D. Burns Pdf

Adoniram Judson was not only a historic figurehead in the first wave of foreign missionaries from the United States and a hero in his own day, but his story still wins the admiration of Christians even today. Though numerous biographies have been written to retell his life story in every ensuing generation, until now no single volume has sought to comprehensively synthesize and analyze the features of his theology and spiritual life. His vision of spirituality and religion certainly contained degrees of classic evangelical piety, yet his spirituality was fundamentally rooted in and ruled by a mixture of asceticism and New Divinity theology. Judson's renowned fortitude emerged out of a peculiar missionary spirituality that was bibliocentric, ascetic, heavenly minded, and Christocentric. The center of Adoniram Judson's spirituality was a heavenly minded, self-denying submission to the sovereign will of God, motivated by an affectionate desire to please Christ through obedience to his final command revealed in the Scriptures. Unveiling the heart of his missionary spirituality, Judson himself asked, "What, then, is the prominent, all-constraining impulse that should urge us to make sacrifices in this cause?" And he answered thus: "A supreme desire to please him is the grand motive that should animate Christians in their missionary efforts."

Microcosmic God by Theodore Sturgeon Pdf

The second of a planned 10 volumes that will reprint all Sturgeon's short fiction covers his prolific output during 1940 and 1941, after which he suffered five years of writer's block. Showcasing Sturgeon's early penchant for fantasy, the first six selections include whimsical ghost stories, such as "Cargo," in which a World War II munitions freighter is commandeered by invisible, peace-loving fairies. With the publication of his enduring SF classic, "Microcosmic God," Sturgeon finally found his voice, combining literate, sharp-edged prose with fascinating speculative science while recounting the power struggle between a brilliant scientist, who creates his own miniature race of gadget makers, and his greedy banker. Voice found or not, every one of the stories here is readable and entertaining today because of Sturgeon's singular gifts for clever turns of phrase and compelling narrative. As Samuel R. Delaney emphasizes in an insightful introduction, Sturgeon was the single most influential SF writer from the 1940s through the 1960s.

It's Alive! is about inventors and their creations. Following the Money drops robots into the day-to-day business of living. Owners and Servants considers the human potentials and pitfalls of owning and maintaining robots. Changing Places looks at what happens at the blurred interface between human and machine minds. All Hail the New Flesh waves goodbye to the physical boundaries that once separated machines from their human creators. Succession considers the future of human and machine consciousnesses – in so far as we might have one.
