Environmental Impacts on Underground Power Distribution by Gouda, Osama El-Sayed Pdf

The successful transmission of electrical power beneath the surface of the earth depends on a number of factors including ambient temperature, sheath bonding, cable laying depth, and especially the formation of dry zones around underground cables. Environmental Impacts on Underground Power Distribution studies the factors which affect the maximum current rating of subterranean power cables as well as various methods to maximize electrical current transmission. Focusing on the latest tools, methodologies, and research in the field, this publication is designed for use by electrical engineers, academicians, researchers, and upper-level students.

Analysis techniques of diagnosis high voltage underground cables by Hussain Mahdi Pdf

Thesis (M.A.) from the year 2015 in the subject Electrotechnology, grade: -, Warsaw University of Technology (Electrical Engineering), language: English, abstract: This study is focused on installations and faults diagnosis of high voltage underground cables and examined on the various ways through which they can be identified and corrected. It has been found that wear and tear is one of the major issues leading to electric faults like power loss. There has been seen that several causes of failure which could be identified with them and analyze better ways of detecting them. So, it has been looked at how to detect degradation of insulation of the underground cable. After a thorough analysis of fault detection techniques have been explained, the pre-location fault techniques is described; I illustrated many methods which aid to discover the fault location. I also developed a method which contributes in pre-location of the fault based on Matlab simulation and mathematical slope equation. This method was invented after the observation that the voltages measured at the local and remote substations, after filtering and after Fourier analysis, showed a linear behavior that was proportional to the respective distances between the fault location and the mentioned substations or generators. Thus, the developed method exploits such a linearity to estimate the fault location by interpolation, assuming that the parameters of the line are previously known and that dedicated devices are located on site in both substations to provide post-fault measurements of the faulted line. Finally, I clarify many pin-pointing methods to precisely determine the fault location.

Online Location of Faults on AC Cables in Underground Transmission Systems by Christian Flytkjær Jensen Pdf

This book reports on various techniques for fault location on cross bonded cables, identifies the best method and describes the construction of a full fault locator system. The developed system is able of pinpointing the fault location on long cross-bonded cable systems and will be installed in Danish substations for monitoring the coming cable-based transmission grid. The work was conducted as part of a collaborative project between the department of energy technology at Aalborg University and the Danish transmission system operator for electricity and natural gas, Energinet.dk.

Renewable Energy Utilization Using Underground Energy Systems by Paweł Ocłoń Pdf

This book discusses heat transfer in underground energy systems. It covers a wide range of important and practical topics including the modeling and optimization of underground power cable systems, modeling of thermal energy storage systems utilizing waste heat from PV panels cooling. Modeling of PV pannels with cooling. While the performance of energy systems which utilize heat transfer in the ground is not yet fully understood, this book attempts to make sense of them. It provides mathematical modeling fundaments, as well as experimental investigation for underground energy systems. The book shows detailed examples, with solution procedures. The solutions are based on the Finite Element Method and the Finite Volume Method. The book allows the reader to perform a detailed design of various underground energy systems, as well as enables them to study the economic aspects and energy efficiency of underground energy systems. Therefore, this text is of interest to researchers, students, and lecturers alike.
