Many women in prison have experienced intimate partner violence, and these women are at risk of ongoing victimisation following release from custody. This study investigates the factors that influence help-seeking by women in prison who may have concerns about their personal safety post-release and how this might inform service responses. It draws on interviews with incarcerated women in the Adelaide Women's Prison in South Australia and local service providers to explore individual and broader factors, including family relationships, connections between the perpetrator and family and friends, experiences of the criminal justice system, the availability of support, financial and physical barriers to accessing support, and social prejudice. The report also discusses the current literature and theorising about helpseeking in general, barriers to help-seeking and disclosure, and the specific needs of women in prison.
