Understanding the Mystery of Grace by Grace Slater Pdf

It is not enough to hear, learn or even sing about Grace. Knowing about grace without understanding the multi-faceted uniqueness of Grace will lead to spiritual frustration. The bible teaches us this truth encompassed in grace. [John 1:14-17 KJV] "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, ) full of grace and truth. John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me. And of his fullness have all we received, and grace for grace. For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ". Romans 9:10-16 teaches that this grace is free, by election, and calling and not by works. The Bible tells us that "it is not of him that runs nor of him that wills but it is the Lord that shows mercy and compassion". It is the Lord that determines who he will favor and show kindness to. Grace comes for grace. This grace is unmerited favor. God gives it to those He calls to compensate for their shortfalls and weaknesses. Romans 5:1-2, talks about having access to this grace by faith through Jesus Christ. You and I can access this grace by faith in Jesus Christ. We are called in the grace of Christ. Paul refers to the grace of Christ as the gospel of Christ. Acts 20:24 (ESV) 24 But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God. The gospel and grace are used interchangeably in scripture. The gospel of Christ is the grace of God. And the gospel of grace is this: Jesus offered one sacrifice for sins forever; he died on the cross and took your sins past, present, and future. The gospel of grace is over the top good news that your sins have been done away with on the cross. Grace is God's unmerited, unearned, and undeserved favor. Sin had to be judged so Jesus went to the cross and took our place. The condemnation went on Him for our sins. Hebrews 10:10-14 (ESV) On the cross, Jesus offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins. His work on the cross was good for all time. That means your past, present, and future sins have already been forgiven. God judged Jesus for the sins of the whole world forever. Sin is no longer an issue. God is not judging the unbelievers for their sins. Sin has already been judged. People do not go to hell because of sin, but rather because of rejecting Jesus who is the solution to the sin problem. Even after you are saved, sin is no longer an issue. After we are born again, God does not judge the believer for his sins. God is not punishing you for your sins. He is not mad at you when you make a mistake. He already punished Jesus for all the sins that you will ever commit. They have already been judged. Beware of the devil who will try to condemn you because you did something wrong. He tries to bring people under condemnation because they make a mistake and tells them that God will not answer their prayers because they did not pray today, or because they have not been to church for two weeks, or they did not read their Bible all week. That is the law, and we are not under the law. That is performance-based living and God does not relate to us anymore based on our performance. He does not bless us or answer our prayers because of what we do, but because of what Jesus did for us on the cross. God loves you as much as He loves Jesus (John 17:23), and when He sees you, He sees His son Jesus. As Jesus is, so are we in this world (1 John 4:17). We are in Christ Jesus and God sees us in Him.

The Mystery of Grace by Charles de Lint Pdf

On the Day of the Dead, the Solona Music Hall is jumping. That's where Altagracia Quintero meets John Burns, just two weeks too late. Altagracia – her friends call her Grace – has a tattoo of Nuestra Señora de Altagracia on her shoulder, she's got a Ford Motor Company tattoo running down her leg, and she has grease worked so deep into her hands that it'll never wash out. Grace works at Sanchez Motorworks, customizing hot rods. Finding the line in a classic car is her calling. Now Grace has to find the line in her own life. A few blocks around the Alverson Arms is all her world -- from the little grocery store where she buys beans, tamales, and cigarettes ("cigarettes can kill you," they tell her, but she smokes them anyway) to the record shop, to the library where Henry, a black man confined to a wheelchair, researches the mystery of life in death – but she's got unfinished business keeping her close to home. Grace loves John, and John loves her, and that would be wonderful, except that John, like Grace, has unfinished business – he's haunted by the childhood death of his younger brother. He's never stopped feeling responsible. Like Grace in her way, John is an artist, and before their relationship can find its resolution, the two of them will have to teach each other about life and love, about hot rods and Elvis Presley, and about why it's necessary to let some things go. The Four Vision Quests of Jesus by Steven Charleston Pdf

A unique look at Christian biblical interpretation and theology from the perspective of Native American tradition. This book focuses on four specific experiences of Jesus as portrayed in the synoptic gospels. It examines each story as a “vision quest,” a universal spiritual phenomenon, but one of particular importance within North American indigenous communities. Jesus’ experience in the wilderness is the first quest. It speaks to a foundational Native American value: the need to enter into the “we” rather than the “I.” The Transfiguration is the second quest, describing the Native theology of transcendent spirituality that impacts reality and shapes mission. Gethsemane is the third quest. It embodies the Native tradition of the holy men or women, who find their freedom through discipline and concerns for justice, compassion, and human dignity. Golgotha is the final quest. It represents the Native sacrament of sacrifice (e.g., the Sun Dance). The chapter on Golgotha is a discussion of kinship, balance, and harmony: all primary to Native tradition and integral to Christian thought.

The Haunt of Grace by Ted Loder Pdf

From the pen of one of today's most visionary spiritual thinkers comes a book of profound explorations on the mysteries and marvels of faith, love, and life. Believing that mystery is at the very heart of faith, Loder delves deep into the "sneaky" ways God surfaces in the muddle of everyday experience. In fourteen chapters crafted from his best-loved sermons as Senior Minister of the First United Methodist Church of Germantown (Philadelphia), Loder's persistently evocative images call us to live in this scarred, beautiful world differently, to find a truer, more compassionate place in it. This is not a book for the timid or complacent; it's one of the most exciting spiritual reads you'll come across in a long time.

The Meaning of Grace by Charles Journet Pdf

Few concepts are more important in Catholic theology than that of grace, but most adult Catholics never move beyond a schoolchild's understanding of grace. Charles Journet explores philosophy, revelation and history to explain grace fully. Journet lays out both the doctrinal development of grace and corrects persistent mistakes that Catholics make about grace. He covers habitual grace, actual grace, predestination, justification, merit, and much more. He even includes a revealing exploration of Adam's earthly paradise and how the nature of the Fall called forth God's response of grace.

Sheer Grace by Drasko Dizdar Pdf

Sheer Grace shows not just the "link between" but the indissolubility of the union of theology, liturgy, and spirituality. It does so by grounding it in a radical tradition of liturgy as transformation, which has its roots in the scriptures and the lived liturgical experience of our biblical and ecclesial ancestors. At the same time the book looks to the present experience of Christians who feel a deep and largely unmet need for that same kind of transforming experience that liturgy can be. The book also looks to the future with hope as a gift of "sheer grace," as something only God can and does give, and not as something we can manufacture by our own efforts at renewal or restoration. Job and the Mystery of Suffering by Richard Rohr Pdf

Richard Rohr, internationally known retreat leader, speaker and writer, plumbs the depths of the Job's story and its relevance for us today. Rohr strips Christian faith down to the essentials, beyond glib answers and a "hand-me-down" experience of God, and points the way to true knowing. In this invigorating exploration, the tension between suffering and faith becomes a powerful means to an authentic, open connection with the divine.

The Mystery of James Revealed in Droplets of Grace by Mac Goddard Pdf

The Mystery of James Revealed in Droplets of Grace is Pastor Mac Goddard's attempt to offer a view of the book of James, through daily meditations that he calls "droplets of grace." Early in his ministry, Pastor Goddard read the book of James in the same manner he read the rest of the Bible-through the lenses of legalism, attempting to learn the rules of the Christian life, so he could please God and make it safely to Heaven. As a result, he really struggled with the book of James, finding it impossible to reconcile with the writings of Paul. He is not alone among scholars in this difficulty; Martin Luther, the iconic figure of the Protestant Reformation, also struggled with the book of James. Somewhere in Pastor Goddard's journey, however, it became clear to him that he desperately needed to change his spiritual glasses so that he could read the Bible through the lens of grace-God's unmerited favor. The difference was remarkable. Instead of bringing confusion and doubt, his study of the book of James brought life, peace, and freedom. The Mystery of James Revealed in Droplets of Grace examines the meaning of each of the ideas brought forth in the book of James in daily meditations that present the verses and then explore explanations of each. You too can come to grips with the book of James through these droplets of grace.

The Operation of Grace by Gregory Wolfe Pdf

The Operation of Grace collects a decade's worth of essays by Gregory Wolfe taken from the pages of Image, the literary journal he founded more than a quarter century ago. As he notes in the preface, his Image editorials, while they cover a wide range of topics, focus on the intersection of "art, faith, and mystery." Wolfe believes that art and religion, while hardly identical, offer illuminating analogies to one another--art deepening faith through the empathetic reach of the imagination and faith anchoring art in a vision beyond the artist's ego. Several essays dwell on how aesthetic values like ambiguity, tragedy, and beauty enlarge our understanding of the spiritual life. There are also a series of reflections that extend Wolfe's campaign to renew the neglected and often misunderstood tradition of Christian humanism. Finally, there are sections that contain more personal meditations arising from Wolfe's involvement in nurturing and promoting the work of emerging writers and artists. The Operation of Grace demonstrates once again why novelist Ron Hansen has spoken of Wolfe as "one of the most incisive and persuasive voices of our generation." .embed-container { position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.25%; height: 0; overflow: hidden; max-width: 100%; } .embed-container iframe, .embed-container object, .embed-container embed { position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%; }

The Grace of God by Andy Stanley Pdf

ôGrace. ItÆs what we crave most when our guilt is exposed. ItÆs the very thing we are hesitant to extend when we are confronted with the guilt of othersùespecially when their guilt has robbed us of something we consider valuable. Therein is the struggle, the struggle for grace. ItÆs this struggle that makes grace more story than doctrine. ItÆs the struggle that reminds us that grace is bigger than compassion or forgiveness. That struggle is the context for both. When we are on the receiving end, grace is refreshing. When it is required of us, it is often disturbing. But when correctly applied, it seems to solve just about everything. This struggle is not new; it has been going on since the beginning.ö ùAndy Stanley We find in the pages of Scripture that the stories found there often mirror our own stories, and that we too need the very thing we do not deserve: the grace of God. From the beginning, the church has had an uneasy relationship with grace. The gravitational pull is always toward graceless religion. The odd thing is that when you read the New Testament, the only thing Jesus stood against consistently was graceless religion. The only group he attacked relentlessly was graceless religious leaders. Even now as you think about grace, there might be a little voice in your head whispering, ôIt canÆt be that easy!ö ôWhat about obedience?ö ôWhat about disobedience?ö ôWhat about repeated misbehavior?ö ôWhat about bad habits?ö ôWhat about justice?ö ôWhat about repentance?ö ItÆs this tension that makes grace so slippery. But thatÆs the beauty and the truth of grace. We donÆt deserve it. We canÆt earn it. It canÆt be qualified. But God gives it to us anyway because he loves us unconditionally. The story of grace is your story. And as you are about to discover grace plays a larger role than you imagine.

Mystery of Grace by Ansy Dessources Pdf

Understanding the grace of God was one of the biggest challenges in the early stages of my Christian walk. I was stuck between following the law of God and accurately understanding and embracing the love and grace of God through Jesus Christ, who is the fulfillment of the law. Because of this, I would consistently find myself in a pattern of self-righteous exaltation in my own efforts of maintaining a godly appearance and relationship with God. This led me to a life of depravity and eventually agnosticism. I started to disbelieve the possibility of a god because the burden of trying to please him in my own efforts felt impossible. This brought me to a place of spiritual emptiness and mental drainage that I wanted to end, so it felt easier to completely deny him. Though I denied him, though, there was still a yearning in my heart to know him and to be endowed to my Creator.
