Environmental Education by David Hughes-Evans Pdf

Environmental Education: Key Issues of the Future contains the proceedings of a conference held at the College of Technology in Hampshire, England. The conference provided a forum for discussing the role of education in environmental training, analyzing the problems of environmental education, and proposing innovations that might well affect the future. Comprised of eight chapters, this book first looks at the methods for use in the professional training of teachers, with reference to the research and development studies that have been carried out on these training methods. The place of environmental studies in the school and the factors that have led to an increased interest in these studies are considered. The chief obstacles to the progress of these studies in the secondary schools are outlined. The reader is then introduced to the role of environmental science in the formal education service; problems of subject integration in environmental science; and the UNESCO/UNEP environmental program and its implications for environmental education in Britain. International cooperation in environmental education is also discussed, along with part-time and recurrent education in the environmental field. This monograph will be of value to engineers, planners, biologists, lawyers, geologists, and others with an active interest in environmental problems.

International Organizations and the Media in the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries by Jonas Brendebach,Martin Herzer,Heidi J.S. Tworek Pdf

International Organizations and the Media in the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries is the first volume to explore the historical relationship between international organizations and the media. Beginning in the early nineteenth century and coming up to the 1990s, the volume shows how people around the globe largely learned about international organizations and their activities through the media and images created by journalists, publicists, and filmmakers in texts, sound bites, and pictures. The book examines how interactions with the media are a formative component of international organizations. At the same time, it questions some of the basic assumptions about how media promoted or enabled international governance. Written by leading scholars in the field from Europe, North America, and Australasia, and including case studies from all regions of the world, it covers a wide range of issues from humanitarianism and environmentalism to Hollywood and debates about international information orders. Bringing together two burgeoning yet largely unconnected strands of research—the history of international organizations and international media histories—this book is essential reading for scholars of international history and those interested in the development and impact of media over time.

Environmental Education by Trilochan S. Bakshi,Zev Naveh Pdf

The environmental movement of the 1960s made educationists in some parts of the world aware of the significance and importance of ecology in curricula at all levels of education, from kindergarten to post-secondary. A great deal of progress was made in the early 1970s in incorporating environmental awareness programs into educa tional systems go that what was once considered a fad was gradually becoming a part of formal education in a number of institutions, especially in Canada and the U.S.A. It was therefore appropriate that an international scientific body devote some time to the issue of ecology in education. Early in 1976, I suggested to the International Association for Ecology (Inteco1) that a symposium on Environmental Education be included in the program of the Second International Congress of Ecology scheduled to be held in Jerusalem in September 1978. In the first draft program of the Congress, the topic was included as a poster session. I considered this inadequate and appealed to the Congress Steering Committee to focus greater attention on environ mental education. The first draft program contained phrases like "utilization of resources", "conservation problems", "environmental moni toring", and "irreversible changes". These phrases more or less assumed that people in general understood ecological principles. Literature on environmental education seems to suggest that a wide gap separated most of the professional ecologists from a large portion of mankind primarily because we the ecologists have paid scant attention to the ecological education of world's citizens.

Environmental Education and Training by Patricia D. Park,Deborah A. Blackman,Gin Chong Pdf

Published in 1998, the impact of current organizational behaviour upon the environment and concern over the long term effects has become almost a household topic. There are a growing number of reference books which discuss the various aspects and importance of this matter, but they often do so in isolation from the environment, education, and training. In addition to this, little has been discussed about the inter-relationships between the various aspects of organizational behaviour and its impact on the environment. This book intends to bridge the gap. It discusses the importance of environmental education and training in three different disciplines: the legal aspects, financial implications, and managerial choices and decision-making.
