Book 1: The Baby Surprise I'm on a mission to have a baby - but I didn't expect my new fertility doctor to be the man who broke my heart so many years ago. I've had a crush on Blake since we were in high school. It seemed like we were meant to be together forever, until he left me without a single word and never looked back. I thought I was over him long ago. Ten years later, he's back - an Adonis in a white coat. Walking around showing off his stethoscope. What he did to me was unforgivable. Or so I thought. I mean, he's still my enemy. But he can give me the baby I've always dreamed of. Yet he has one condition: He wants to do it the old-fashioned way! Can I really trust that Blake has changed his ways forever? Book 2: The Second Chance I'm stunned when I learn my grandmother's last will: Sleep with your enemy. Okay, wait - she doesn't demand that explicitly of course. But she wants me to run the family business. Which not only shocks me, but my whole family. However, the real killer is that I have to run it together with Jon. My first big love. The man who crushed my heart so many years ago. Here's the thing: I don't feel ready to run a company. I haven't even spent a night with a man yet! And now I'm around Jon all the time, who keeps teasing me whenever he can. I hate him for what he's done to me... But his gorgeous smile and deep blue eyes haven't lost a bit of attraction. When our battle moves between the sheets, I ask myself a critical question: Will my heart be broken a second time if I give Jon the gift of being my first? Surprise by Tania Luna,LeeAnn Renninger, PhD Pdf

Surprise: Embrace the Unpredictable and Engineer the Unexpected is a fascinating look at how we can handle and harness surprise in our work, relationships, and everyday lives. Pop Quiz! Do you prefer when: A) Things go according to plan? B) When the unexpected happens? Most of us pick control and predictability. Yet research reveals a counterintuitive truth: surprise is the key that unlocks growth, innovation, and connection. It is also the secret ingredient in our best memories. Through colorful narratives and compelling scientific findings, authors Tania Luna and Dr. LeeAnn Renninger shine a light on the world's least understood and most intriguing emotion. They reveal how shifting our perception of surprise lets us thrive in the face of uncertainty. And they show us how surprise acts as a shortcut that turns a typical product into a meaningful experience, a good idea into a viral one, awkward small talk into engaging conversation, and daily life into an adventure.

My Unexpected Surprise by Piper Rayne Pdf

I never thought of myself as dad material. Until my one-night stand showed up in my small Alaskan town five months pregnant. But I don’t shy away from responsibility. First, because I’m a Greene and not to boast but we’re kind of a big deal in Sunrise Bay. Second, I’m the Sheriff. I couldn’t have predicted how protective I’d become for the safety of her and my unborn baby to the point of asking her to move in with me and be my roommate. Just when I think I have the situation under control, another surprise knocks me over, but it only spurs me to double down. I’ll be the first to admit, I didn’t think it through. Somewhere between the dinners, the TV show binging, the doctor appointments, and me walking in on her naked, lines blurred. In what feels like warp speed, my bachelor for life status is in jeopardy and I’m fighting for the most important thing of all—my family.

Ignorance and Surprise by Matthias Gross Pdf

The relationship between ignorance and surprise and a conceptual framework for dealing with the unexpected, as seen in ecological design projects. Ignorance and surprise belong together: surprises can make people aware of their own ignorance. And yet, perhaps paradoxically, a surprising event in scientific research—one that defies prediction or risk assessment—is often a window to new and unexpected knowledge. In this book, Matthias Gross examines the relationship between ignorance and surprise, proposing a conceptual framework for handling the unexpected and offering case studies of ecological design that demonstrate the advantages of allowing for surprises and including ignorance in the design and negotiation processes. Gross draws on classical and contemporary sociological accounts of ignorance and surprise in science and ecology and integrates these with the idea of experiment in society. He develops a notion of how unexpected occurrences can be incorporated into a model of scientific and technological development that includes the experimental handling of surprises. Gross discusses different projects in ecological design, including Chicago's restoration of the shoreline of Lake Michigan and Germany's revitalization of brownfields near Leipzig. These cases show how ignorance and surprise can successfully play out in ecological design projects, and how the acknowledgment of the unknown can become a part of decision making. The appropriation of surprises can lead to robust design strategies. Ecological design, Gross argues, is neither a linear process of master planning nor a process of trial and error but a carefully coordinated process of dealing with unexpected turns by means of experimental practice.

Uncertainty and Surprise in Complex Systems by Reuben R. McDaniel,Dean Driebe Pdf

Complexity science has been a source of new insight in physical and social systems and has demonstrated that unpredictability and surprise are fundamental aspects of the world around us. This book is the outcome of a discussion meeting of leading scholars and critical thinkers with expertise in complex systems sciences and leaders from a variety of organizations, sponsored by the Prigogine Center at The University of Texas at Austin and the Plexus Institute, to explore strategies for understanding uncertainty and surprise. Besides contributions to the conference, it includes a key digest by the editors as well as a commentary by the late nobel laureate Ilya Prigogine, "Surprises in half of a century". The book is intended for researchers and scientists in complexity science, as well as for a broad interdisciplinary audience of both practitioners and scholars. It will well serve those interested in the research issues and in the application of complexity science to physical and social systems.
