The Black Panthers by Bryan Shih,Yohuru Williams Pdf

"Brilliant, painful, enlightening, tearful, tragic, sad, and funny, this photo-essay book is at its core about healing, and about the social justice work that still needs to be done in the era of hip-hop, Black Lives Matter, and the historic presidency of Barack Obama." -- Kevin Powell, author of The Education of Kevin Powell: A Boy's Journey into Manhood "A brilliantly conceived volume. Bryan Shih and Yohuru Williams demonstrate why the Panthers' story-its lessons and failures-even fifty years after its founding remains key to understanding national and international struggles for freedom and justice today." -- Cheryl Finley, professor and director of visual studies, Cornell University Even fifty years after it was founded, the Black Panther Party remains one of the most misunderstood political organizations of the twentieth century. But beyond the labels of "extremist" and "violent" that have marked the party, and beyond charismatic leaders like Huey Newton, Bobby Seale, and Eldridge Cleaver, were the ordinary men and women who made up the Panther rank and file. In The Black Panthers, photojournalist Bryan Shih and historian Yohuru Williams offer a reappraisal of the party's history and legacy. Through stunning portraits and interviews with surviving Panthers, as well as illuminating essays by leading scholars, The Black Panthers reveals party members' grit and battle scars-and the undying love for the people that kept them going.

Unfinished Portraits by Jennette Barbour Perry Lee Pdf

Excerpt from Unfinished Portraits: Stories of Musicians and Artists The soft wind of an Italian spring stirred among the leaves outside. The windows of the studio, left open to the morning air, were carefully shaded. The scent of mulberry blossoms drifted in. The chair on the model-stand, adjusted to catch the light, was screened from the glare; and the light falling on the rich drapery flung across its back brought out a dull carmine in the slender, bell-shaped flowers near by, and dark gleams of old oak in the carved chair. The chair was empty; but the two men in the studio were facing it, as if a presence were still there. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Unfinished Portrait: Beyond the Painting by Aleli Rescobel Pdf

Asteria Verano is a fresh graduate of fine arts. Frustrated at work with all the loads as a freelancer, she decided to accept the invitation of her friend to the exhibit in their estate, not to mention her friend was so persistent for her to come. The trip would have been great since she admired the famous painter, however, acquiring flu on her travel made her head spin throughout the tour, it got worse when the same night, her friends played a lame prank on her that made her paint an unfinished portrait, that is rumored to be cursed aside from it’s disrespectful, it transported her to another period and place. Suddenly, she was on a plaza in broad daylight, unfamiliar faces eyeing her like she’s doing something wrong, people calling her a different name, a man claiming her his fiancé, and meeting the painter who did not finish the painting, however, he told her he never lifts a brush, as a matter of fact, he’s a doctor, nothing more, nothing less. Asteria was not only stuck in the past but she was also bound in an identity that has a bad reputation, a wedding to be prepared, another stranger appeared inside her bedroom calling her “Mi Alma” and questions she had a hard time seeking to find the answers to, starting with three: why is she here? How will she return? and Why is the unfinished portrait cursed?

The Perfect Portrait by John Paul Shuman Jr Pdf

About the Book The Perfect Portrait is a tale of self-discovery for one young boy, Jay, whose life was taken just moments after his birth. In lieu of this, his grief-stricken mother, Serena, enlisted the aid of a person she has heard of in her travels, in the hope that, perhaps, his soul could be saved. With the purchase of a pendant and a few drops of blood, Serena enlisted the aid of a woman named Glenda, who was known to those as a “Spirit Bridge.” Using craft widely forbidden to those not aware, she restores Jay’s soul but takes it upon herself to care for him. Glenda does not tell Serena she will be Jay’s caretaker until the time is right. Time passes, and eventually Jay discovers the pendant, left in his closet. The words etched on the back do not resonate with him at the moment, yet through the pendant, he is later discovered by Serena, who transports her son to a realm unlike anything he could have imagined. At this moment, a journey of discovery, both of self and the realm around Jay begins... About the Author John Paul Shuman Jr, thirty-two, currently resides in the small town of Moultrie, Georgia, where he was born and raised. Ever since he was a child, Shuman has enjoyed taking pencil to paper, creating realms and situations leaving one to ponder the very facets that make up life itself. Shuman’s other interests lie in classical music and the sounds of nature, which he uses to focus during long writing endeavors. He enjoys having long dialogues with others concerning the deeper facets of existence and the very workings behind our decisions, not only as humans or “mortals” but as part of a grander scheme.

Portraits of John Quincy Adams and His Wife by Andrew Oliver Pdf

This volume affords a visual documentation of the most varied political career in American history and exemplifies the work of the principal American portraitists from the days of Copley and Stuart to the dawn of the Daguerrean era. Included in the 159 illustrations are all the known life portraits, busts, and silhouettes of John Quincy and Louisa Catherine Adams, along with important replicas, copies, engravings, and representative likenesses of their siblings. The book is organized into seven chapters which generally coincide with the major divisions of John Quincy Adams' political career. Within each chapter are discussed the artists, their relationships with the Adams's, and the provenance of each of their works. A chronology of John Quincy Adams' life for each period accompanies the chapter to which it pertains. Information about the size of each likeness, the inscriptions if any, the date executed, and present ownership where known is summarized in the List of Illustrations. The Adams's, as they watched themselves age over the years in the marble, ink, or oil of the artists who portrayed them, recorded much by way of commentary on the artistic talent and process at hand. The author makes use of the diaries and correspondence preserved in the Adams Papers, thus combining a learned appreciation with an intimate glimpse of Adams's as they saw themselves.
