Untouchable God by Kancha Ilaiah Pdf

This witty, tongue-in-cheek novel that laughs at the foibles and hypocrisies of Brahmins and upper castes across India begins with a crime. Paraiah, a dalit, is beaten to death for the crime of thinking about God, which might well lead to thoughts of equality ... Six men representing the remarkable Brahmins of India celebrate his death, Veda Shastry of Tamil Nadu (where the purest examples of exalted brahminhood are to be found) is the rightful leader. Namboodri of Kerala is a from a caste that created the most perfect system of discrimination that the world has seen; Krishnamurthy of Karnataka and Appa Rao of Andhra Pradesh are slightly moderate; Tilak of Maharashtra dreams of increasing discrimination while Banerjee of Bengal believes he is above caste. As the men take their leave of Shastry, the authors gaze follows them ironically. Lastly, comes Isaiah, an American black, who knows all about race, and journeys to India to find out about the non-violence movement that had inspired Martin Luther King, Jr and discovers much else besides.

Untouchable God as the indication of conventional progressive solutions by Rakibul Islam Pdf

Literature Review from the year 2017 in the subject English - Literature, Works, grade: A, Central University of Haryana (Central university of Haryana), course: M.A. IN English, language: English, abstract: “Progressivism” is an ideological, pragmatic system of thought grounded in solving problems and maintaining strong values within society. Progressive writers want to take some change in society or they want to provide some solution for the existing problems. When it comes to the case of caste system (untouchability), there are some conventional solutions given to eradicate caste and untouchability. These are inter- caste marriage, providing education, upliftment of women, freedom of thought and expression, equal treatment, unequal opportunity etc. To a certain extent these solutions are effective in the society. “Untouchable God: A Novel on Caste and Race” by Kancha Ilaiah (an Indian academician, writer, social, activist for dalit rights) is a portrayal of these ideas through the description of the life of Pariah and Saraswati. He also points out that the condition of upper caste women and makes a remark that their condition is also not different. This paper is an attempt to find the portrayal of these conventional progressive solutions prescribed for the upliftment of women and lower class.

The Untouchables by Oliver Mendelsohn,Marika Vicziany Pdf

In a sensitive and compelling account of the lives of those at the very bottom of Indian society, Oliver Mendelsohn and Marika Vicziany explore the construction of the Untouchables as a social and political category, the historical background which led to such a definition, and their position in India today. The authors argue that, despite efforts to ameliorate their condition on the part of the state, a considerable edifice of discrimination persists on the basis of a tradition of ritual subordination. Even now, therefore, it still makes sense to categorise these people as â€~Untouchables'. The book promises to make a major contribution to the social and economic debates on poverty, while its wide-ranging perspectives will ensure an interdisciplinary readership from historians of South Asia, to students of politics, economics, religion and sociology.

God’s Absence and the Charismatic Presence by Roy D. Kindelberger Pdf

The author's theological inquiry is intended to raise questions of interpretation within the camp of openness theology and to direct a discussion on the implications of this movement for the charismatic/Pentecostal community. Open theism or openness theology affirms that the universe is open, the future is not settled, God is essentially relational love, and the risks of love and the threats against it are real. The author digs deep into this area of doctrine in order to question how far openness theology is willing to go. Is it only the future that is open to God, or are there perhaps unknown aspects to the past and present as well? What does God know about sin, and when does he know it? Is it possible for God to be totally absent from a person's life or even from an entire nation? If God can be absent, can he also be exceptionally present in the lives of believers? What would the divine presence and the charismata (spiritual ministries) look like in an open universe?

Theology without Words by Wayne Morris Pdf

This book is a study of a Christian theology without words, focussing on theology in the Deaf Community. Deaf people's first and preferred method of communication is not English or any other spoken language, but British Sign Language - a language that cannot be written down. Deaf people of faith attend church on a regular basis, profess faith in God and have developed unique approaches to doing theology. While most Western theology is word-centred and is either expressed through or dependent on written texts, theology in the Deaf Community is largely non-written. This book presents and examines some of that theology from the Deaf Community and argues that written texts are not necessary for creative theological debate, a deep spirituality or for ideas about God to develop.

GOD WANTS YOU TO PROSPER by ISAIAH MACWEALTH Pdf

Do you want to prosper? Do you want to enjoy financial prosperity? Do you know that God can make you rich? Do you want to know how? The journey into financial prosperity begins with the understanding that God wants you to prosper. The doubt many believers exhibit about the concept of prosperity can be traced to a lack of this foundational understanding. This is why many believers wallow in poverty with the assumption that it may be God’s will for them. The focus of this book will therefore be to expose the origin and source of poverty, God’s original mind about your prosperity, and how God prospers a man. Also, the way God prospers a man is different from the way of the world, an understanding of how God prospers a man is thus, necessary to walk in the God-kind of prosperity. Therefore, dedicate quality time to read and meditate on this book because it contains all-around truth about financial prosperity.

The true story of how women of strength and courage can be survivors of attempted murder and suicide. Dealing with death and rough roads to climb for survival, the author perseveres despite the struggle and stumbling blocks designed to deter her motivation to keep on climbing over the last two years even at the lowest possible level. Women have been fighting to keep it together. Even today, women have to put up with attitude changes and people with split personalities. The author finally looked death through the eye of her storm. Brooks's desire is to use her tragedy to help other women discover their inner strength by not giving up and using their God-given talents to recognize Satan's tricks and doubts. Today, she is a survivor. The soul whose sins will die do not deserve to be hurt but loved because God is love. Being abandoned, Brooks can see loved one's can become selfish, bitter, resentful, angry, passing on the same altitude from generation to generation. When love vanishes, it vanishes because of secrets and lack of knowledge and not knowing how to effectively communicate. Looking back on her life today, she considers herself the fourth cavalry veteran that won the battle of survival. It is not different from being discovered beneath the sea, a fish of the sea that keeps on pushing. After all, we all have a place in this universe. No matter what struggle we fight is our daily life. We hear mumbling, groaning, complaining, but trouble doesn't last always today.

An Untouchable Community in South India by Michael Moffatt Pdf

While many studies suggest that Indian Untouchables do not entirely share the hierarchical values characteristic of the caste system, Michael Moffatt argues that the most striking feature of the lowest castes is their pervasive cultural consensus with those higher in the system. Though rural Untouchables question their particular position in the system, they seldom question the system as a whole, and they maintain among themselves a set of hierarchical conceptions and institutions virtually identical to those of the dominant social order. Based on fourteen months of fieldwork with Untouchable castes in two villages in Tamil Nadu, south India, Professor Moffatt's analysis specifies ways in which the Untouchables are both excluded and included by the higher castes. Ethnographically, he pursues his structural analysis in two related domains: Untouchable social structure, and Untouchable religious belief and practice. The author finds that in those aspects of their lives where Untouchables are excluded from larger village life, they replicate in their own community nearly every institution, role, and ranked relation from which they have been excluded. Where the Untouchables are included by the higher castes, they complete the hierarchical whole by accepting their low position and playing their assigned roles. Thus the most oppressed members of Indian society are often among the truest believers in the system. Originally published in 1979. Evil and the Problem of Jesus by Gary Commins Pdf

Evil and the Problem of Jesus approaches age-old questions about God's relationship with evil (theodicy) from an entirely fresh angle. Rather than tweaking airy abstractions, it makes Jesus' interactions with evil our primary source for thinking about theodicy. This Christ-centered approach reveals the failure of traditional theodicy to be intellectually convincing or spiritually satisfying. Unlike that fossilized intellectual heritage, Christodicy (evil-and-Jesus) provides original insights into divine power, presence, and love that help us reengage the God Jesus reveals and the evil Jesus challenges. Presenting Jesus as a model for how to be fully human, it crafts new ways to envision our own multidimensional relationships with God and with evil. Written with both breadth and focus, the book includes pastoral experiences of tragedy, suffering, and evil; retraces philosophical, multifaith, and biblical insights; and explores the ways the Gospels describe Jesus' complex interactions with evil. Evil and the Problem of Jesus asks pointed questions and offers thoughtful conceptual frameworks to help people live more faithfully, compassionately, wisely, and justly in response to the evils around us, among us, and within us.
