Upward, Inward, Outward by Daniel Fusco Pdf

This book is about discovering together how to understand and live the Greatest Commandment. We’re not after the “art of thinking about God a little differently.” We’re here to uncover the needs God created within us—needs for meaning, intimacy, honesty, humility, justice, compassion, and more—and how he designed us to find those needs fulfilled in him. This is the art of living Jesus’ spirituality. God gives us the key in the Greatest Commandment, but we’ve got to do this stuff in the right order. Imagine I invite you to my sweet cabin by the lake. To start hanging out in that cabin, you need to get the key from me, pack your car, follow the GPS, and so on. There’s a natural order to it. It’s the same with the Greatest Commandment. We begin upward, with loving God. The God. God of the Old Testament, God of the New Testament. God the Trinity—Father, Son, Holy Spirit. We continue inward, with understanding our true identities in Jesus. And when we get those things right, God’s Spirit sends us outward, on mission into the world. These three movements—upward, inward, and outward—mirror the Greatest Commandment and help us learn the art of living harmoniously together in a chaotic world.

Upward, Outward, Inward by Mitsuo Fukuda Pdf

What would happen if God were to bring ten new believers into the Church in a single day? Would we be able to disciple them? What if it were a hundred people in a week? Do you think it's possible to receive a thousand new believers a month? If a million people were saved, would the Church be ready to disciple them? The Lord wants us to prepare workers for the harvest - people with a simple message of love and service, who can pass that message on. If we want to see many, many people come to Christ, then we will need to find a way for them to be discipled and to become disciplers. This book from the Japanese house church provides one way for any Christian to become a discipler: it gives simple, practical ways to live out the Gospel, to explain the Gospel, and to pass the baton of discipleship on to others.

The Papa Prayer by Larry Crabb Pdf

Learn the revolutionary way to talk with God! Like millions of Christians, Dr. larry Crabb has always considered his prayer life a weakness – "dull, intense only in crisis, occasionally meaningful and passionate but mostly lifelessly routine." But for everyone who struggles to pray in a way that matters, who is bored with prayer and doesn't know where else to turn, this groundbreaking book whispers of hope for change. Something new and real and deep started happening in him, Crabb says, when he began practicing the four steps of what he calls the PAPA prayer – a revolutionary conversational approach to talking with and enjoying God. As this fellow seeker shares his journey and education in the mysteries of prayer, he guides us to see ourselves and God in a different light . . . which will alter the way we talk – and listen – to Him.

Crazy Happy by Daniel Fusco Pdf

Is it crazy to want a happy life? The host of Jesus Is Real Radio and Hillsong Channel’s Real with Daniel Fusco unlocks the happiness we long for in the most famous teachings of Jesus and the apostle Paul. “Don’t just skim through this book quickly. Savor it and discuss it with a friend. Your personal happiness is at stake.”—Rick Warren, author of The Purpose Driven Life, from the foreword Dissatisfied with your life? Yeah, most of us have been there. There’s no shame in wanting to be happy, but real satisfaction often eludes us. At best, what fleeting happiness we find tends to dribble away in never-ending debts, stressful deadlines, and mindless scrolling. At worst, it’s chased away by anxiety, depression, or fallout from our selfishness. Here’s the truth: whether we hunt for happiness in parties, bars, the workplace hustle, or even in church pews, we’ll wind up shortchanged. Why? Because we don’t see our lives as beautiful. But God wants something better for you—happiness so real this world might think it’s too good to be true. In Crazy Happy, Daniel Fusco unpacks fresh connections in two of the Bible’s most familiar passages—secrets of happiness that can really, truly, honest-to-goodness change things. If you stick around for the ride, you’ll find the kind of God-given beauty that can change your life for good—even in our sometimes-crazy world.

Inward Outward Upward by Art Sathoff Pdf

I was at an annual assembly of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) years ago, and the theme was "Inward, Outward, Upward." At the time that denomination was doing some soul searching and restructuring as a result of economic difficulties, and the theme provided an entry point for examining the inner workings of the church, the church's relationships with those outside the church and denomination, and with our Father above. The day I began this book, years after the church assembly, I referred to the same theme to describe efforts to bring community leaders representing different groups and institutions together. These leaders each have to focus inward to run their organizations effectively, but they can't afford not to have an outward focus on other organizations, and they also focus upward as they seek to craft stronger organizations for community progress and the good of their citizens. I am a big believer in reflection and introspection. I have referred to the inscription above the Oracle at Delphi in ancient Greece before: "Know Thyself." I believe we have to be at peace with ourselves and take care of the inward before we can be much good to others, but the longer I live, the more I realize that we really need to cultivate the outward, too. Granted, my chosen professions of teacher, coach, school administrator, and pastor are much more relationship-driven than some other occupations. Still, I believe that happy and productive people understand the power of relationships and have mastered the outward. For me, personally, the inward and outward have been enhanced tremendously by a focus on the upward. My Christian faith has brought about positive changes in my life, benefiting both the inward and outward. I'm sure there are other higher causes that provide upward benefits for people, too. This book is going to be an exploration of the inward, outward, and upward. It is organized into three parts, containing six exhortations each. Each of the six exhortations is a chapter relating a theme that runs inward, outward, and upward through all three parts of the book. At the risk of confusing the reader, I'll share that I wrote Chapter 1 in each section before going on to Chapter 2 and so on. If you don't mind turning back and forth between inward, outward, and upward, you can read it in the order I wrote it. Otherwise, you can read it section by section. The best thing that could happen with this book is that someone would read it and benefit from it. If you find the book helpful or want to discuss the book, please feel free to email me at [email protected] Enjoy!

Prayer - 10th Anniversary Edition by Richard J. Foster Pdf

Best-selling author Richard J. Foster offers a warm, compelling, and sensitive primer on prayer, helping us to understand, experience, and practice it in its many forms-from the simple prayer of beginning again to unceasing prayer. He clarifies the prayer process, answers common misconceptions, and shows the way into prayers of contemplation, healing, blessing, forgiveness, and rest. Coming to prayer is like coming home, Foster says. "Nothing feels more right, more like what we are created to be and to do. Yet at the same time we are confronted with great mysteries. Who hasn't struggled with the puzzle of unanswered prayer? Who hasn't wondered how a finite person can commune with the infinite Creator of the universe? Who hasn't questioned whether prayer isn't merely psychological manipulation after all? We do our best, of course, to answer these knotty questions but when all is said and done, there is a sense in which these mysteries remain unanswered and unanswerable . . . At such times we must learn to become comfortable with the mystery." Foster shows how prayer can move us inward into personal transformation, upward toward intimacy with God, and outward to minister to others. He leads us beyond questions to a deeper understanding and practice of prayer, bringing us closer to God, to ourselves, and to our community.

Reaching Out by Henri J. M. Nouwen Pdf

With clarity and depth characteristic of the classics, this spiritual bestseller from the author of The Return of the Prodigal Son lays out a perceptive and insightful plan for the spiritual life and achieving the ultimate goal of that life—union with God. “One of the world’s greatest spiritual writers.”—Christianity Today Henri Nouwen views our spiritual “ascent” as evolving in three movements: The first, from loneliness to solitude, focuses on the spiritual life as it relates to the experience of our own selves. The second, from hostility to hospitality, explores our spiritual life as a life for others. The final movement, from illusion to prayer, offers penetrating thoughts on the most mysterious relationship of all: our relationship with God. Throughout, Nouwen emphasizes that the more we understand (and not simply deny) our inner struggles, the more we will be able to embrace a prayerful and genuine life that is also open to others’ needs. Reaching Out is a rich book to be read, reread, pondered, and shared. It “does not offer answers or solutions,” Nouwen cautions, “but is written in the conviction that the quest for an authentic Christian spirituality is worth the effort and the pain, since in the midst of this quest we can find signs offering hope, courage, and confidence.”

Outward and Upward Mobilities by Ann H. Kim,Min-Jung Kwak Pdf

People move out to move up. As in the case with other migrant groups, the mobility experienced by international students is a form of social mobility, and one that requires access from a host state. But there are multiple institutions with which students interact and that influence the processes of social mobility. Outward and Upward Mobilities investigates the connection between student and institution. This edited collection features work by key scholars in the field and considers international students across Canada regardless of legal status. Exploring how international students and their families fare in local ethnic communities, educational and professional institutions, and the labour market, this volume demonstrates the need to ask more critical questions about the short- and long-term effects of temporary legal status; how student and family experiences differ by education level and region of settlement, the barriers to and facilitators of adaptation and integration, and ultimately, to what extent individual, familial, institutional, and state goals function in harmony and in discord.

When Did We Start Forgetting God? by Mark Galli Pdf

The former editor in chief of the acclaimed magazine Christianity Today offers a compelling look at the state of evangelicalism and hope for the future. In arguably one of the most divisive and polarizing eras, evangelicals are faced with a profound crisis of confidence. It is a crisis that has many dimensions―political, biblical, and theological―as well as a crisis of spiritual formation and discipleship. What ultimately is at the root of this crisis? Mark Galli encourages us to turn our attention away from the politics of the moment, the social issues being discussed online, and the debate du jour among Christians. He asks us instead to take a long and hard look at what’s missing in our spirituality. In an incisive and thought-provoking book, Mark Galli helps us slow down and spend time reflecting on our ultimate priority. A must-read for anyone interested in contemplating the future of the church.
