Good Money by Jonathan Self Pdf

A practical guide to launching and growing your own successful ethical business. Businesses focused almost entirely on improving the world we live in, rather than on financial gain, can help to achieve meaningful change and generate above-average profits. Genuinely ethical businesses are not only less likely to fail and more likely to be sustainable, they also return higher shareholder value in terms of cash and in terms of satisfaction. Jonathan Self reveals how his own ethical business, Honey's Real Dog Food, gives away a substantial percentage of its turnover to charity, and despite spending nothing on sales and advertising, has achieved nine years of spectacular growth.

Necessary for Jesus by Stephen Kirkendall Pdf

Stephen Kirkendall, ChFC (chartered financial consultant), has helped Christians with financial investments for many years through mortgage loans, life insurance, investments, estate planning, retirement-income planning, and wealth management. He realized early on that most Christians have serious questions about tithing, but there seemed to be no solid answers. He decided to dig deeper into the truth in the Scriptures. There are too many wolves on TV, the Internet, and YouTube. They state that pastors who talk about tithing are thieves and that tithing is unscriptural and that they're getting away with it because no one is challenging them with the full truth. Churches have broken up over tithing. There are marriages that have ended in divorce because of tithing. The real, full truth needs to come out. It is so important that God uses more than seven chapters to explain! The result is the biblically driven study Necessary for Jesus. Most Christians know what was necessary for Jesus. Seventy prophecies fulfilled. Why don't Christians know what is necessary for Jesus? Seventy rewards for helping Jesus. During his search for answers, Kirkendall knew he could honestly answer questions about money by going straight to God's teaching""the Bible. Stephen also realized that when he used the Scriptures, it had to be copy-and-paste. All Christians, especially the church teachers and leaders, need to know the full truth about tithing and how the lessons about it in the Scriptures still apply today. Giving back to God is the wisest investment Christians can make. It will not only lead to financial security but also to a completely blessed and prosperous life. American Dirt (Oprah's Book Club) by Jeanine Cummins Pdf

"También de este lado hay sueños. On this side, too, there are dreams. Lydia Quixano Perez lives in the Mexican city of Acapulco. She runs a bookstore. She has a son, Luca, the love of her life, and a wonderful husband who is a journalist. And while there are cracks beginning to show in Acapulco because of the drug cartels, her life is, by and large, fairly comfortable. Even though she knows they'll never sell, Lydia stocks some of her all-time favorite books in her store. And then one day a man enters the shop to browse and comes up to the register with four books he would like to buy--two of them her favorites. Javier is erudite. He is charming. And, unbeknownst to Lydia, he is the jefe of the newest drug cartel that has gruesomely taken over the city. When Lydia's husband's tell-all profile of Javier is published, none of their lives will ever be the same. Forced to flee, Lydia and eight-year-old Luca soon find themselves miles and worlds away from their comfortable middle-class existence. Instantly transformed into migrants, Lydia and Luca ride la bestia--trains that make their way north toward the United States, which is the only place Javier's reach doesn't extend. As they join the countless people trying to reach el norte, Lydia soon sees that everyone is running from something. But what exactly are they running to? American Dirt will leave readers utterly changed when they finish reading it. A page-turner filled with poignancy, drama, and humanity on every page, it is a literary achievement."--

Designing a World-Class Architecture Firm by Patrick MacLeamy Pdf

Offers architects and creative services professionals exclusive insights and strategies for success from the former CEO of HOK. Designing a World Class Architecture Firm: The People, Stories and Strategies Behind HOK tells the history of one of the largest design firms in the world and draws lessons from it that can help other architects, interior designers, urban planners and creative services professionals grow bigger or better. Former HOK CEO Patrick MacLeamy shares the revolutionary strategies HOK’s founders deployed to create a brand-new type of architecture firm. He pulls no punches, revealing the triple crisis that almost bankrupted HOK and describes how any firm can survive and thrive. Designing a World Class Architecture Firm tells the inside story of many of HOK’s most iconic buildings, including the National Air and Space Museum, Moscone Convention Center, Oriole Park at Camden Yards, the Houston Galleria and the reimagined LaGuardia Airport. Each chapter conveys lessons learned from HOK’s successes —and failures— including: The importance of diversifying to depression-and-recession-proof your firm The benefit of organizing your firm around specialized leaders and project types The difference between leading and managing your people The value of simple financial metrics to ensure your firm’s health and profitability The “run toward trouble” strategy which prevents problems from ballooning MacLeamy delivers his advice via inspirational stories such as how HOK survived when its home office in St. Louis went up in flames and humorous stories, like the time an HOK executive was mistaken for royalty on a trip to Saudi Arabia. In this tell-all guide, the driven architecture or design professional will find the tools needed to evolve or grow any firm.

Second Philosophy by Penelope Maddy Pdf

Many philosophers these days consider themselves naturalists, but it's doubtful any two of them intend the same position by the term. In this book, Penelope Maddy describes and practises a particularly austere form of naturalism called 'Second Philosophy'. Without a definitive criterion for what counts as 'science' and what doesn't, Second Philosophy can't be specified directly - 'trust only the methods of science!' or some such thing - so Maddy proceeds instead by illustratingthe behaviours of an idealized inquirer she calls the 'Second Philosopher'. This Second Philosopher begins from perceptual common sense and progresses from there to systematic observation, active experimentation, theory formation and testing, working all the while to assess, correct and improve hermethods as she goes. Second Philosophy is then the result of the Second Philosopher's investigations.Maddy delineates the Second Philosopher's approach by tracing her reactions to various familiar skeptical and transcendental views (Descartes, Kant, Carnap, late Putnam, van Fraassen), comparing her methods to those of other self-described naturalists (especially Quine), and examining a prominent contemporary debate (between disquotationalists and correspondence theorists in the theory of truth) to extract a properly second-philosophical line of thought. She then undertakes to practise SecondPhilosophy in her reflections on the ground of logical truth, the methodology, ontology and epistemology of mathematics, and the general prospects for metaphysics naturalized.
