Digital Transformation for Improved Industry and Supply Chain Performance by Khan, Muhammad Rahies,Khan, Naveed R.,Jhanjhi, Noor Zaman Pdf

In the rapidly evolving landscape of Industry 4.0, integrating digital technologies into supply chain management (SCM) presents opportunities and challenges. While Industry 4.0 promises increased efficiency, productivity, and competitiveness, its impact on sustainability within SCM remains a pressing concern. Existing literature often needs to look more into the holistic integration of Industry 4.0 technologies with sustainable practices in SCM, leaving a critical gap in understanding and implementation. This gap not only inhibits the realization of sustainable performance but also hinders firms from aligning with global sustainability agendas such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG) 2030. Digital Transformation for Improved Industry and Supply Chain Performance offers a comprehensive solution by examining the integration of Industry 4.0 technology and SCM sustainability. It addresses the urgent need for firms to undergo digital transformation to achieve sustainable performance. It provides insights into how Industry 4.0 technologies can be strategically leveraged to promote sustainability in SCM operations. Through in-depth analysis of critical topics such as cybersecurity, resilience, circular economy practices, and ethical considerations, this book equips readers with the knowledge and tools necessary to navigate the complexities of Industry 4.0-enabled SCM sustainability.

Best Practices for Improving Law Compliance in the Forestry Sector by Anonim Pdf

Significant volumes of timber are illegally felled, processed and traded every year. Illegal logging and associated trade are a complex issue with far-reaching environmental, social and economic consequences. Various stakeholders at the local, national and international levels are making efforts to address the issue. Several governments are in the process of rationalizing their legal and policy framework, building institutional capacity to foster better law compliance and gathering additional data on the extent and nature of illegal operations. Private initiatives such as forest certification, voluntary corporate codes of conduct, independent monitoring of forest operations and log tracking are also contributing to fighting forest crime. This publication provides an overview of these experiences and analyses available knowledge in a set of best practices drawn from 11 country case studies.

RFID Explained by Roy Want Pdf

This lecture provides an introduction to Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), a technology enabling automatic identification of objects at a distance without requiring line-of-sight. Electronic tagging can be divided into technologies that have a power source (active tags), and those that are powered by the tag interrogation signal (passive tags); the focus here is on passive tags. An overview of the principles of the technology divides passive tags into devices that use either near field or far field coupling to communicate with a tag reader. The strengths and weaknesses of the approaches are considered, along with the standards that have been put in place by ISO and EPCGlobal to promote interoperability and the ubiquitous adoption of the technology. A section of the lecture has been dedicated to the principles of reading co-located tags, as this represents a significant challenge for a technology that may one day be able to automatically identify all of the items in your shopping cart in a just few seconds. In fact, RFID applications are already quite extensive and this lecture classifies the primary uses. Some variants of modern RFID can also be integrated with sensors enabling the technology to be extended to measure parameters in the local environment, such as temperature & pressure. The uses and applications of RFID sensors are further described and classified. Later we examine important lessons surrounding the deployment of RFID for the Wal-Mart and the Metro AG store experiences, along with deployments in some more exploratory settings. Extensions of RFID that make use of read/write memory integrated with the tag are also discussed, in particular looking at novel near term opportunities. Privacy and social implications surrounding the use of RFID inspire recurring debates whenever there is discussion of large scale deployment; we examine the pros and cons of the issues and approaches for mitigating the problems. Finally, the remaining challenges of RFID are considered and we look to the future possibilities for the technology. Table of Contents: Introduction / Principles of Radio Frequency Identification / RFID Industry Standards / Reading Collected RFID Tags / Applications of RFID Tagging / RFID Incorporating Sensing / Deployment and Experience with RFID Systems / Privacy, Kill Switches, and Blocker Tags / Opportunities for RFID Integrated with Memory / Challenges, Future Technology, and Conclusion

The Executive's Guide to Information Technology by John Baschab,Jon Piot Pdf

Praise for the The Executive's Guide to Information Technology "This book is important reading. It offers practical, real-world insight and pragmatic no-nonsense approaches for people who have a stake in corporate IT. " --Lynda Applegate, Henry R. Byers Professor of Business Administration, Harvard Business School "Information systems and processes are very important parts of our due diligence assessment of a company--yet the jargon is often more difficult to understand than many foreign languages. Baschab and Piot effectively translate IT into words and concepts that businesspeople can easily understand and act upon. This book is a helpful reference guide for corporate executives and private equity groups of all types." --Neal Aronson, Managing Partner, Roark Capital Group "Business success increasingly depends on effective use of IT. Effective use of IT depends on the kind of in-depth, practical insight in this book. Baschab and Piot provide a pragmatic approach to information systems investment that should be required reading for senior executives and CIOs alike." --Erik Brynjolfsson, Schussel Professor of Management, Director of the Center for Digital Business, MIT "This book should provide valuable guidance for management and technology consultants. The Executive's Guide to Information Technology provides field-proven insight on all important aspects of IT planning and execution, from governance to applications to operations and infrastructure." --Gary J. Fernandes, former vice chairman, EDS, member of the Board of Directors, Computer Associates "Baschab and Piot do a great job of laying out the fundamental issues and challenges that every IT organization faces. More often than not, the issues are not technical in nature, but are a reflection of how the IT and business teams work together to define, execute, and implement new business tools. The threshold issue is leadership. Often it is difficult for business leaders to feel that they have the skills and perspective to provide that leadership on technical projects. The Executive's Guide to Information Technology provides non-technical business leaders a solid framework for engaging with their IT peers." --Tom Nealon, Chief Information Officer, J.C. Penney
