Vapor, Rain, and Snow by Paul Fleisher Pdf

How does a cloud form? When is the best time to see a rainbow in the sky? Why do ice cubes shrink in the freezer? The answers to these questions all involve water. So do the reasons why we have rain and snow. To understand weather, we have to know what happens to water at different temperatures, on the ground and in the air. In this fact-packed book, discover what happens when water changes from a liquid into a gas or a solid, and much more.

Geochemistry by Francis Albarède Pdf

From measuring geological time, through unravelling the evolution of continents, ocean and mantle, to understanding climate change, modern geochemistry is a discipline which pervades nearly all of the Earth Sciences. Geochemistry provides a broad introduction to the subject, which concentrates on the inorganic chemistry of the condensed part of our planet. This new textbook is written by the author of the authoritative and widely acclaimed Introduction to Geochemical Modelling (Cambridge, 1995). Emphasizing general principles rather than specific observations, Professor Albarède leads the reader through the simplest concepts of physics and chemistry behind geochemical processes. He covers fields central to geochemistry, such as crystal chemistry, mass balance and element transport, and geochemical dynamics. A broad range of applications is introduced, in natural water systems, the deep Earth and planetary processes. Geochemistry is an ideal textbook for undergraduate students, and will also provide an accessible introduction for researchers working in related fields.

Integrated Technologies for Environmental Monitoring and Information Production by Nilgun B. Harmancioglu,S.D. Ozkul,O. Fistikoglu,Paul Geerders Pdf

This book presents the proceedings and the outcomes of the NATO Advanced Research Workshop (ARW) on Integrated Technologies for Environmental Monitoring and Information Production, which was held in Marmaris, Turkey, between September 10- 14, 200 I. With the contribution of 45 experts from 20 different countries, the ARW has provided the opportunity to resolve the basic conflicts that tend to arise between different disciplines associated with environmental data management and to promote understanding between experts on an international and multidisciplinary basis. The prevailing universal problem in environmental data management (EDM) systems is the significant incoherence between data collection procedures and the retrieval of information required by the users. This indicates the presence of problems still encountered in the realization of; (1) delineation of objectives, constraints, institutional aspects of EDM; (2) design of data collection networks; (3) statistical sampling; (4) physical sampling and presentation of data; (5) data processing and environmental databases; (6) reliability of data; (7) data analysis and transfer of data into information; and (8) data accessibility and data exchange at local, regional and global scales. Further problems stem from the lack of coherence between different disciplines involved in EDM, lack of coordination between responsible agencies on a country basis, and lack of coordination on an international level regarding the basic problems and relevant solutions that should be sought.

How Are Rain, Snow, and Hail Alike? by Ellen Lawrence Pdf

When we look up to the sky, we see clouds. Sometimes rain falls from these clouds, and sometimes we get snow, sleet, or hail. Why are we drenched with water some days, blanketed with snowflakes on others, and pelted by hard chunks of ice on others? This title introduces young readers to the different types of precipitation and provides a clear, compelling presentation of how and why different forms of water fall from the sky. Filled with information perfectly suited to the abilities and interests of an early elementary audience, this colorful, fact-filled volume gives readers a chance not only to learn, but also to develop their powers of observation and critical thinking. From vivid graphics illustrating the forces that produce rain, snow, and hail, to fun, high-interest facts about extreme amounts of rainfall and quantities of snow, this book makes learning about precipitation a lively, engaging experience.
