Vedic Cosmography and Astronomy by Richard L. Thompson Pdf

The mysteries of the fifth Canto of the Srimad Bhagavatam have long puzzled students of Vedic cosmography and astronomy. Confronted with a description of the universe that seems much at variance with the information provided by our senses and standard astronomical calculations, foreign observers and even Indian commentators from the middle ages up to the present have concluded that the Bhagavatam`s account elaborated in other Puranas must be mythological. On the other hand the same persons have been much impressed with vedic astronomical treatises the jyotisasastras which provide remarkably accurate measurements of the solar system.

Vedic Cosmology and Ethics by Henk W. Bodewitz Pdf

How did ‘Vedic man’ think about the destiny of man after death and related ethical issues? That heaven was the abode of the gods was undisputed, but was it also accessible to man in his pursuit of immortality? Was there a realm of the deceased or a hell? What terms were used to indicate these ‘yonder worlds’? What is their location in the cosmos and which cosmographic classifications are at the root of these concepts? The articles by Henk Bodewitz collected in this volume, published over a period of 45 years, between 1969 and 2013, deal with these issues on the basis of a systematic philological study of early Vedic texts, from the Ṛgveda to various Brāhmaṇas, Āraṇykas and Upaniṣads.

VEDIC COSMOLOGY by Henry Romano Pdf

We are situated in the fifty-first Brahma year of the existence of our Brahma.Inside that Brahma year, we are in the primary Brahma day, called the Varaha Kalpa.Inside that Brahma day, we are in the seventh manvantara and in the 28th maha yuga of that manvantara. This would put us at about the 454th maha yuga of the 1,000 maha yugas that include this day of Brahma.Inside this maha yuga, we are in Kali Yuga. The 5100th year of Kali Yuga will relate to the year 2,000 A.D. That implies that we are genuinely right off the bat in Kali Yuga, and this age will proceed with more than 426,000 additional years.Variation Interpretations of Hindu ChronologyThe "Customary Puranic Model" portrayed above is settled upon by most creators on Hinduism and Yoga. Six distinct creators, recorded toward the finish of this paper, represent this model indistinguishably.A few different creators, some of the notable Hindu instructors, have distributed portrayals of the pattern of ages that vary from the conventional Puranic model. These variation hypotheses are depicted beneath.

Vedic Physics by Raja Ram Mohan Roy Pdf

The ?igveda is the first book of humankind and the most sacred scripture of Hinduism. It also happens to be the most ill-understood book of our times. Despite the extensive study by academic and religious scholars, the purpose and meaning of the ?igveda and many ancient Hindu scriptures remain unclear. In this pathbreaking book, the discovery of the ?igveda as a book of ancient cosmology is described, and related to the seals of ancient Indus Valley Civilization, thereby challenging our perception of humanity."The Vedas have always been lauded as containing the secrets of cosmogenesis. Raja Roy in his remarkable book shows how this is true not only from the yogic vison but according to the latest insights of modern physics. The book takes the reader on a vast panoramic journey through the universe of matter, mind and human history as well."David Frawley (Vamadeva Shastri), Director, American Institute of Vedic Studies"Roy presents a new framework for the understanding of the Vedic hymns from the point of view of physics and then he draws parallels with recent theories on the nature of the universe. We celebrate the new path he has hewn through the bush of old scholarship."Professor Subhash Kak, Oklahoma State University

The Cosmology of the Bhāgavata Purāṇa by Richard L. Thompson Pdf

From the flat earth to the sun`s chariot traditional spiritual texts seem wedded to outmoded cosmologies that show, at best, the scientific limitations of their authors. The Bhagavata Purana, one of the classical scriptures of Hinduism, seems, at first glance, to be no exception. However, a closer examination of this text reveals unexpected depths of knowledge in ancient cosmology. This shows that the cosmology of the Bhagavata Purana is a sophisticated system, with multiple levels of meaning that encode at least four different astronomical, geographical, and spiritual world models. By viewing the text in the light of modern astronomy, Richard Thompson shows how ancient scientists expressed exact knowledge in apparently mythological terms. Comparison with the ancient traditions of Egypt and the Near East shows early cultural connections between India and these regions including a surprisingly advanced science. However, quantitative science is only part of the picture. This work also offers a clear understanding of how the spiritual dimension was integrated into ancient Indian cosmology. The Vedic Dharma by James Kalomiris Pdf

This volume is the first installment in a new series on the Rig Veda. This series is an original, idiosyncratic look at the Rg Veda and Vedas as a whole. The purpose of this series, The Secret History of the Vedas, is to unravel and discover the true meaning of the Vedic deities and to reveal the hidden meaning of the Vedas. This book is a line-by-line commentary on the Asyavamasya Sukta in the Rig Veda. There are three great themes in the Vedic dharma—Existence, Bliss, and Consciousness. This volume is an examination of Existence, the first prong in the Vedic Dharma. This book is a broad overview of the major themes that are present in the Vedic dharma. These themes will be explored and expanded in subsequent volumes in this series. That series is The Secret History of the Vedas. This series reveals the hidden meaning of the Rg Veda, reassembled from portions of the Vedas—the Rg Veda SamaVeda, Yajur Veda, and AtharvaVeda—as well as the Brahmanas, Upanishads, shastras, and other Vedic and Hindu writings. This series and this volume provide the key that unlocks the secrets of the Vedas.
