Vehicle of Influence by Roland Francis Stephen Pdf

This study examines a crucial period in European integration, ending in the early 1990s, when significant progress was made towards the dream of a unified European market. It shows how European automakers were part of these changes and how their influence within the institutions of the European Union (EU) yielded a wide range of policy compromises governing a single European car market. The book begins by reviewing the history of the EU and the logic of regional free trade, and goes on to develop a political explanation for the kinds of changes that actually occurred. The author argues that European automakers enjoyed a privileged place in the political arena, albeit one much transformed by the new institutions of the EU. Therefore, these firms often significantly influenced regional policy outcomes. The argument is applied to policymaking in the important areas of environmental regulation, trade, subsidies, and anti-trust regulation. This work lies at the intersection of business, economics, and political science and is of interest to both experts and non-specialists with an interest in the tremendous economic and political changes brought about by the creation of a united Europe and, more generally, by the worldwide process of regional economic integration. Academics, professionals, businessmen, and leaders in government all have something to learn from the way in which firms and governments combined to build the largest car market in the world. Roland Stephen is Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science, North Carolina State University.

Development and Testing of Vehicle Software and its Influence on Sustainable Transport by Antonio Colmenar-Santos,David Borge-Diez,Pedro-Miguel Ortega-Cabezas Pdf

This book evaluates the contributions of the electronic control unit software of an electric vehicle on sustainability and society, such as the reduction of emissions during a product design and the improvements in the vehicle. A sustainable transport model is proposed, demonstrating its economic viability. By validating software in a more efficient way and adding new functionalities to the software to enhance driving efficiency, energy consumption can be significantly reduced. Therefore, software validation and development have a significant impact on sustainability. This book offers innovative validation solutions based on artificial intelligence techniques to reduce validation time and emissions. The impact of driving efficiency on sustainable transport models is studied in detail, making proposals to be considered in the current environmental policies under discussion within the European Union in order to improve the sustainability of transport models. Vehicles are becoming sophisticated electronic systems due to the fact that they are integrating a significant number of electronic control units. This trend will certainly continue in the year to come. Consequently, software validation techniques are a key element for car manufacturers in order to ensure the quality of the vehicle. This book contributes to these efforts.

Fluid Oscillations in the Containers of a Space Vehicle and Their Influence Upon Stability by Helmut F. Bauer,United States. National Aeronautics and Space Administration Pdf

With the increasing size of space vehicles and their larger diameters which lower the natural frequencies of the propellants, the effects of propellant sloshing especially since at launch a very large amount of the total weight is in the form of liquid propellant. With increasing diameters the eigenfrequencies of the propellant become smaller and shift closer to the control frequency of the space vehicle. Furthermore, the oscillating propellant masses and the corresponding forces increase considerably. A relatively simple means of avoiding strong dynamic coupling can be achieved by subdivision of the container by radial or circular walls. This results in smaller sloshing masses and higher eigenfrequencies. Another possibility is the clustering of tanks with small diameters which has the disadvantage of a weight penalty. For stability investigations the influence of the oscillating propellant has to be known. For this reason forces and moments of the propellant with a free fluid surface in a container of circular ring sector cross section performing forced oscillations must be determined. This will be performed with the assumption of irrotational, frictionless, and incompressible liquid. Linear equivalent damping is introduced with the help of a mechanical model describing the fluid motion. It has to be determined by experiments.

Dynamics of Vehicles on Roads and Tracks Vol 1 by Maksym Spiryagin,Timothy Gordon,Colin Cole,Tim McSweeney Pdf

The International Symposium on Dynamics of Vehicles on Roads and Tracks is the leading international gathering of scientists and engineers from academia and industry in the field of ground vehicle dynamics to present and exchange their latest innovations and breakthroughs. Established in Vienna in 1977, the International Association of Vehicle System Dynamics (IAVSD) has since held its biennial symposia throughout Europe and in the USA, Canada, Japan, South Africa and China. The main objectives of IAVSD are to promote the development of the science of vehicle dynamics and to encourage engineering applications of this field of science, to inform scientists and engineers on the current state-of-the-art in the field of vehicle dynamics and to broaden contacts among persons and organisations of the various countries engaged in scientific research and development in the field of vehicle dynamics and related areas. IAVSD 2017, the 25th Symposium of the International Association of Vehicle System Dynamics was hosted by the Centre for Railway Engineering at Central Queensland University, Rockhampton, Australia in August 2017. The symposium focused on the following topics related to road and rail vehicles and trains: dynamics and stability; vibration and comfort; suspension; steering; traction and braking; active safety systems; advanced driver assistance systems; autonomous road and rail vehicles; adhesion and friction; wheel-rail contact; tyre-road interaction; aerodynamics and crosswind; pantograph-catenary dynamics; modelling and simulation; driver-vehicle interaction; field and laboratory testing; vehicle control and mechatronics; performance and optimization; instrumentation and condition monitoring; and environmental considerations. Providing a comprehensive review of the latest innovative developments and practical applications in road and rail vehicle dynamics, the 213 papers now published in these proceedings will contribute greatly to a better understanding of related problems and will serve as a reference for researchers and engineers active in this specialised field. Volume 1 contains 78 papers under the subject heading Road.
