Walking Albuquerque by Stephen Ausherman Pdf

Given its history and massive sprawl, we must admit that, unlike Nancy Sinatra’s boots, Albuquerque was not made for walking. However, that doesn’t mean the art of walking has met its demise here. A resurgence in plans and efforts to make it walkable again indicates that the city is on the verge of a pedestrian renaissance. In the meantime, navigating it by foot requires some local guidance and expertise. That’s where Walking Albuquerque by local author and explorer Stephen Ausherman comes in handy. With 30 routes mapped out in the valley, the heights, and beyond, it’s the first guidebook of its kind to cover the entire city and surrounding areas, including tourist sites and famous filming locations along with several hidden treasures most locals don’t even know about. Rich in history and obsessive in detail, Walking Albuquerque is written to encourage readers to take the next step and make each walk an enjoyable little journey.

Selected Poetry by Cecilio GarcÕa Camarillo Pdf

Known as the ñChicano NationÍs cultural attach?î and the ñChicano Renaissance Man,î Cecilio GarcÕa-Camarillo served as a central figure in the flourishing of artistic creativity in the late 1960s and the 1970s known as the Chicano Movement. As a publisher, editor, and radio personality, he brought to the publicÍs attention literary works and people that have since become legend, lore, and canon. He exerted cultural leadership not only through his editing of El MagazÕn, Caracol, and Rayas, but in his total dedication to his own poetry, which appeared sparsely in his magazines, but largely in his own hand-stitched chapbooks and through his preferred medium: oral performance. Ironically, GarcÕa-Camarillo, a consummate editor, was diffident about or uninterested in publishing his own works. Thus, for the most part, they have remained only in the memories of those who witnessed their recital; they are also patent strains in the conscience and aesthetics of the many poets he influenced. At last GarcÕa-Camarillo has consented to the publication of selected poems spanning his decades of creativity. In this volume are united works that appeared in thirteen short-run chapbooks that he distributed among friends: ZafaÍo, Crickets, Burning Snow, Carambola, Hang a Snake, Ecstasy, Puro Pedo, and other magical collections. Here are revealed in full GarcÕa-CamarilloÍs gifts to all lovers of poetry: surrealism and social commitment united, joy in poetic discovery, explorations of the terrain between two languages, and an embrace of all people, all cultures, and their creative visions.

Birding Hot Spots of Central New Mexico by Judith Liddell,Barbara Hussey Pdf

From pine forest to desert scrub, from alpine meadow to riparian wetland, Albuquerque and its surrounding area in New Mexico offer an appealing variety of wildlife habitat. Birders are likely to see more than two hundred species during a typical year of bird-watching. Now, two experienced birders, Judith Liddell and Barbara Hussey, share their intimate knowledge of the best places to find birds in and around this important region. Covering the Rio Grande corridor, the Sandia and Manzano Mountains, Petroglyph National Monument, and the preserved areas and wetlands south of Albuquerque (including crane and waterfowl haven Bosque del Apache), Birding Hotspots of Central New Mexico offers twenty-nine geographically organized site descriptions, including maps and photographs, trail diagrams, and images of some of the birds and scenery birders will enjoy. Along with a general description of each area, the authors list target birds; explain where and when to look for them; give driving directions; provide information about public transportation, parking, fees, restrooms, food, and lodging; and give tips on availability of water and picnic facilities and on the presence of hazards such as rattlesnakes, bears, and poison ivy. The book includes a “helpful information” section that discusses weather, altitude, safety, transportation, and other local birding resources. The American Birding Association’s code of birding ethics appears in the back of the book, along with an annotated checklist of 222 bird species seen with some regularity in and around Albuquerque.
