The Way by Adam Hamilton Pdf

Travel with Adam Hamilton as he retraces the life and ministry of Jesus Christ. Once again, Hamilton approaches his subject matter with thoughtfulness and wisdom, just as he did with Jesus' crucifixion in 24 Hours That Changed the World and with Jesus' birth in The Journey. Read The Way on your own or, for a more in-depth study, enjoy it with a small group or part of a 40-day church-wide emphasis during Lent and Easter or anytime of the year. Using historical information, archaeological data, and stories of the faith, Hamilton follows in the footsteps of Jesus from his baptism to the temptations to the heart of his ministry, including the people he loved, the parables he taught, the enemies he made, and the healing he brought. This 40-day focus will help you and your group grow deeper in their faith, learn more about the life of Christ, spend time daily reading and reflecting upon the Scriptures, and invite families, through the children's and youth studies, to grow together in their faith. Additional resources include a DVD, devotional, youth and children editions, and a worship download to help with sermon planning. Walking In the Footsteps of the Fallen by Christina Holstein Pdf

A visit to the battlefield of Verdun is usually dominated by the forts of Douamont and Vaux, the museum at Fleury and the striking, huge Ossuary. Although this gives a flavor of the horrific fighting that took place in the area, particularly in 1916, the visitor will be hard pressed to get much more than an impression from such places. This book seeks to guide the battlefield pilgrim into parts of the battlefield that get rarely visited by means of a series of walks, a number of which include the major sites. The four tours have been carefully walked. All are practicable for a reasonably healthy adult; the tours vary in length, most taking a half day to complete and the longest (the last) a day. In a twist to the usual walks to be found in the Battleground series, Christina makes full use of the numerous field graves and isolated memorials that are to be found on the Verdun battlefield, a number of which will bring visitors to the most visited sites. In the course of these walks many physical remnants will be found, such as gun positions, bunkers and trench systems, the significance of which is fully explained. The walks have not been chosen at random; by following these the tourer will get a far greater understanding of why the fighting at Verdun developed as it did and why such places as Fort Vaux were so significant to both sides. The field graves and memorials to the combatants, very often of individuals, provide an opportunity to give their story and the unit action in which they were fighting when they were killed. Verdun is a battlefield where the story of units and individuals can easily become lost in the horror of the incessant fighting that raged over ten months; and over ground which is extremely difficult to read because of the post war forestation program. Profusely illustrated and with excellent mapping, a hallmark of Christina Holstein's books, a visitor who follows the walks in this book will be left with a far clearer idea of the men who fought and died here and of the features of the battlefield and their significance in this battle that so challenged the endurance of the armies of two nations.

Six Walks: In the Footsteps of Henry David Thoreau by Ben Shattuck Pdf

A New Yorker Best Book of 2022 A New England Indie Bestselller A New York Times Best Book of Summer, a Wall Street Journal and Town & Country Best Book of Spring “A gorgeous reminder that walking is the most radical form of locomotion nowadays.” —Nick Offerman “I think Thoreau would have liked this book, and that’s a high recommendation.” —Bill McKibben, author of The End of Nature On an autumn morning in 1849, Henry David Thoreau stepped out his front door to walk the beaches of Cape Cod. Over a century and a half later, Ben Shattuck does the same. With little more than a loaf of bread, brick of cheese, and a notebook, Shattuck sets out to retrace Thoreau’s path through the Cape’s outer beaches, from the elbow to Provincetown’s fingertip. This is the first of six journeys taken by Shattuck, each one inspired by a walk once taken by Henry David Thoreau. After the Cape, Shattuck goes up Mount Katahdin and Mount Wachusett, down the coastline of his hometown, and then through the Allagash. Along the way, Shattuck encounters unexpected characters, landscapes, and stories, seeing for himself the restorative effects that walking can have on a dampened spirit. Over years of following Thoreau, Shattuck finds himself uncovering new insights about family, love, friendship, and fatherhood, and understanding more deeply the lessons walking can offer through life’s changing seasons. Intimate, entertaining, and beautifully crafted, Six Walks is a resounding tribute to the ways walking in nature can inspire us all.

To Walk in Their Footsteps by Wilma H. Lewis Pdf

Back in the 1960's tracing your Family Tree was just becoming an interesting hobby. Now, like a lazy little babbling stream merrily following the course of time, that stream has metamorphosed into a huge, directed waterfall and on to an almost out of control flood of family information. Between tracing records, having DNA tested, and the ever-increasing boundaries the Internet is providing, connecting with family one never even realized existed forty years ago, has become an absorbing, interesting avocation for everybody from school children to Seniors. Our family alone has over 14,000 leaves growing on one tree or another in such diverse places as England, Wales, Scandinavian Countries, Finland, USA and Canada. All of us looking to be connected to one another. One never knows where or when that connection may happen. It's just not the data that's important. Was that first traveller a thoughtful, directed man who only wanted a better life for himself and his family? Was he a rogue looking for a fast way out of town to places he would never be found? Did he leave because he was in trouble with the local constabulary, or was he looking for religious freedom? What about the women? Why did they come? What were their thoughts? What was in it for them? When you find the stories, they are fascinating! Our thirst for knowledge of these people is insatiable! Whether or not you are a leaf on one of our orchard of trees you may find a graft that will lead you to another branch where another leaf has been joined to one of our own. Come. Learn about us. Learn about yourself.
