This document is intended as a primer, describing the process for the design and performance of an “aquifer test” (how to obtain reliable data from a pumping test) to obtain accurate estimates of aquifer parameters. It is intended for use by those professionals involved in characterizing sites which require corrective action as well as those which are proposed for ground water development, agricultural development, industrial development, or disposal activities. The goal of the document is to provide the reader with a complete picture of all of the elements of aquifer (pumping) test design and performance and an understanding of how those elements can affect the quality of the final data.

Groundwater Pumping Tests by William C. Walton Pdf
This practical book 'Groundwarer Pumping Tests', details concepts, techniques, field work, case studies, and microcomputer models-information designed to improve accuracy and reliability. The reader is expected to have a working knowledge of hydrogeology or access to books on groundwater geology and hydrology. Too frequently, groundwater pumping test design and analysis ignore well storage capacity, delayed gravity yield, well partial penetration, and aquitard storativity impacts without proving them negligible. As a result, erroneous conclusions are reached concerning aquifer system hydraulic characteristics, boundaries, and discontinuities. Pumping test data often is filtered arbitrarily without adequate justification in attempts to match inappropriate aquifer models and field conditions. Antecedent water level trends and water level adjustments for changes in barometric pressure and surface water stages frequently are ignored in calculating drawdown and recovery. Finally, manual graphic analysis supplemented with microcomputer programs is, to an excessive extent, being replaced by fully automatic microcomputer analysis without critical examination of interpretative methods in program algorithms and their limitations. This book will focus needed attention on the facets mentioned above.

Aquifer Testing by Jonathan D. Istok,Karen J. Dawson Pdf
New! A practical, easy-to-use reference for the design and analysis of groundwater pumping and slug tests Aquifer Testing: Design and Analysis of Pumping and Slug Tests is a complete design and analysis reference emphasizing practical solutions for engineers, scientists, consultants, and students knowledgeable in basic ground water theory. The book discusses such models as steady-state, transient flow with constant discharge, slug injection or withdrawal, and step discharge. This valuable book is an expansion on our best seller Groundwater Pumping Tests: Design and Analysis (Walton 1987). Part I contains general information about pumping tests, including how to design a pumping test, select an appropriate model, correct data, and analyze results. Part II is devoted to aquifer models and features hydrogeologic conditions, flow and geometry assumptions, governing differential equations, initial and boundary conditions, and analytical solutions for different models. BASIC coding for computer programs from which type curves may be developed and drawdown predicted are included in an appendix and on diskettes included in the book.

Aquifer Test Analysis with WindowsTM Software by William C. Walton Pdf
The purpose of this book is to broaden and improve aquifer test analysis by generating type curves for complicated aquifer and well conditions. It simplifies type curve matching with on-screen interactive techniques, and introduces a statistical semi-automatic protocol for calibrating aquifer test site models. In addition, it discusses the validity of aquifer test analysis results. For anyone involved in aquifers and wells, this is an excellent resource for testing and analysis.
