Weighted Inequalities of Hardy Type by Alois Kufner,Lars-Erik Persson,Natasha Samko Pdf

Inequalities play an important role in almost all branches of mathematics as well as in other areas of science and engineering. This book surveys the present state of the theory of weighted integral inequalities of Hardy type, including modifications concerning Hardy–Steklov operators, and some basic results about Hardy-type inequalities and their limit (Carleman–Knopp type) inequalities. It also describes some rather new areas such as higher order and fractional order Hardy-type inequalities and integral inequalities on the cone of monotone functions, together with some applications and open problems. In this second edition, all chapters in the first edition have been updated with new information. Moreover, a new chapter contains new and complementary information concerning: (a) a convexity approach to prove and explain Hardy-type inequalities; (b) sharp constants; (c) scales of inequalities to characterize Hardy-type inequalities; (d) Hardy-type inequalities in other function spaces; and (e) a number of new open questions. Weighted Inequalities Involving ρ-quasiconcave Operators by Opic Bohumir,Evans William Desmond,Gogatishvili Amiran Pdf

Some problems in mathematical analysis (e.g., in theory of function spaces, in approximation theory or in interpolation theory) lead to the investigation of weighted inequalities on certain classes of quasiconcave functions on the interval I=(a,b) ∊ R. In this book we analyse the class Qρ(I) of ρ-quasiconcave functions in a complete generality in order to establish results needed for a comprehensive study of weighted inequalities on the class Qρ(I). We illustrate our results on weighted inequalities of Hardy type, on weighted inequalities of Hardy type involving supremum, and on reverse forms of these inequalities.

Hardy Inequalities on Homogeneous Groups by Michael Ruzhansky,Durvudkhan Suragan Pdf

This open access book provides an extensive treatment of Hardy inequalities and closely related topics from the point of view of Folland and Stein's homogeneous (Lie) groups. The place where Hardy inequalities and homogeneous groups meet is a beautiful area of mathematics with links to many other subjects. While describing the general theory of Hardy, Rellich, Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg, Sobolev, and other inequalities in the setting of general homogeneous groups, the authors pay particular attention to the special class of stratified groups. In this environment, the theory of Hardy inequalities becomes intricately intertwined with the properties of sub-Laplacians and subelliptic partial differential equations. These topics constitute the core of this book and they are complemented by additional, closely related topics such as uncertainty principles, function spaces on homogeneous groups, the potential theory for stratified groups, and the potential theory for general Hörmander's sums of squares and their fundamental solutions. This monograph is the winner of the 2018 Ferran Sunyer i Balaguer Prize, a prestigious award for books of expository nature presenting the latest developments in an active area of research in mathematics. As can be attested as the winner of such an award, it is a vital contribution to literature of analysis not only because it presents a detailed account of the recent developments in the field, but also because the book is accessible to anyone with a basic level of understanding of analysis. Undergraduate and graduate students as well as researchers from any field of mathematical and physical sciences related to analysis involving functional inequalities or analysis of homogeneous groups will find the text beneficial to deepen their understanding.

Variable Lebesgue Spaces by David V. Cruz-Uribe,Alberto Fiorenza Pdf

This book provides an accessible introduction to the theory of variable Lebesgue spaces. These spaces generalize the classical Lebesgue spaces by replacing the constant exponent p with a variable exponent p(x). They were introduced in the early 1930s but have become the focus of renewed interest since the early 1990s because of their connection with the calculus of variations and partial differential equations with nonstandard growth conditions, and for their applications to problems in physics and image processing. The book begins with the development of the basic function space properties. It avoids a more abstract, functional analysis approach, instead emphasizing an hands-on approach that makes clear the similarities and differences between the variable and classical Lebesgue spaces. The subsequent chapters are devoted to harmonic analysis on variable Lebesgue spaces. The theory of the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator is completely developed, and the connections between variable Lebesgue spaces and the weighted norm inequalities are introduced. The other important operators in harmonic analysis - singular integrals, Riesz potentials, and approximate identities - are treated using a powerful generalization of the Rubio de Francia theory of extrapolation from the theory of weighted norm inequalities. The final chapter applies the results from previous chapters to prove basic results about variable Sobolev spaces.

Functional Inequalities: New Perspectives and New Applications by Nassif Ghoussoub,Amir Moradifam Pdf

"The book describes how functional inequalities are often manifestations of natural mathematical structures and physical phenomena, and how a few general principles validate large classes of analytic/geometric inequalities, old and new. This point of view leads to "systematic" approaches for proving the most basic inequalities, but also for improving them, and for devising new ones--sometimes at will and often on demand. These general principles also offer novel ways for estimating best constants and for deciding whether these are attained in appropriate function spaces. As such, improvements of Hardy and Hardy-Rellich type inequalities involving radially symmetric weights are variational manifestations of Sturm's theory on the oscillatory behavior of certain ordinary differential equations. On the other hand, most geometric inequalities, including those of Sobolev and Log-Sobolev type, are simply expressions of the convexity of certain free energy functionals along the geodesics on the Wasserstein manifold of probability measures equipped with the optimal mass transport metric. Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg and Hardy-Rellich-Sobolev type inequalities are then obtained by interpolating the above two classes of inequalities via the classical ones of Hölder. The subtle Moser-Onofri-Aubin inequalities on the two-dimensional sphere are connected to Liouville type theorems for planar mean field equations."--Publisher's website.

Analytical Methods for Markov Semigroups by Luca Lorenzi,Marcello Bertoldi Pdf

For the first time in book form, Analytical Methods for Markov Semigroups provides a comprehensive analysis on Markov semigroups both in spaces of bounded and continuous functions as well as in Lp spaces relevant to the invariant measure of the semigroup. Exploring specific techniques and results, the book collects and updates the literature associated with Markov semigroups. Divided into four parts, the book begins with the general properties of the semigroup in spaces of continuous functions: the existence of solutions to the elliptic and to the parabolic equation, uniqueness properties and counterexamples to uniqueness, and the definition and properties of the weak generator. It also examines properties of the Markov process and the connection with the uniqueness of the solutions. In the second part, the authors consider the replacement of RN with an open and unbounded domain of RN. They also discuss homogeneous Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions associated with the operator A. The final chapters analyze degenerate elliptic operators A and offer solutions to the problem. Using analytical methods, this book presents past and present results of Markov semigroups, making it suitable for applications in science, engineering, and economics.

Morrey Spaces by Yoshihiro Sawano,Giuseppe Di Fazio,Denny Ivanal Hakim Pdf

Morrey spaces were introduced by Charles Morrey to investigate the local behaviour of solutions to second order elliptic partial differential equations. The technique is very useful in many areas in mathematics, in particular in harmonic analysis, potential theory, partial differential equations and mathematical physics. Across two volumes, the authors of Morrey Spaces: Introduction and Applications to Integral Operators and PDE’s discuss the current state of art and perspectives of developments of this theory of Morrey spaces, with the emphasis in Volume II focused mainly generalizations and interpolation of Morrey spaces. Hardy Type Inequalities on Time Scales by Ravi P. Agarwal,Donal O'Regan,Samir H. Saker Pdf

The book is devoted to dynamic inequalities of Hardy type and extensions and generalizations via convexity on a time scale T. In particular, the book contains the time scale versions of classical Hardy type inequalities, Hardy and Littlewood type inequalities, Hardy-Knopp type inequalities via convexity, Copson type inequalities, Copson-Beesack type inequalities, Liendeler type inequalities, Levinson type inequalities and Pachpatte type inequalities, Bennett type inequalities, Chan type inequalities, and Hardy type inequalities with two different weight functions. These dynamic inequalities contain the classical continuous and discrete inequalities as special cases when T = R and T = N and can be extended to different types of inequalities on different time scales such as T = hN, h > 0, T = qN for q > 1, etc.In this book the authors followed the history and development of these inequalities. Each section in self-contained and one can see the relationship between the time scale versions of the inequalities and the classical ones. To the best of the authors’ knowledge this is the first book devoted to Hardy-typeinequalities and their extensions on time scales.
