What Effect Have I Had? by Robert Danisch Pdf

This is a book about improving communication skills in a range of different settings. Instead of thinking about communication as the transmission of information from one person to another, this book shows that we ought to think about communication as a practical art of producing effects on others. Once we start to ask "What effect have I had?" then we are in a better position to improve our communication skills. In thinking about interpersonal communication, small group communication, writing, public speaking, and leadership through questions about the effects we produce on others anyone can significantly improve their communication competencies. Through one hundred small lessons this book provides practical tools to immediately be a better partner, teammate, writer, speaker, and leader.

Pragmatism, Democracy, and the Necessity of Rhetoric by Robert Danisch Pdf

In Pragmatism, Democracy, and the Necessity of Rhetoric, Robert Danisch examines the search by America's first generation of pragmatists for a unique set of rhetorics that would serve the needs of a developing democracy. Digging deep into pragmatism's historical development, Danisch sheds light on its association with an alternative but significant and often overlooked tradition. He draws parallels between the rhetorics of such American pragmatists as John Dewey and Jane Addams and those of the ancient Greek tradition. Danisch contends that, while building upon a classical foundation, pragmatism sought to determine rhetorical responses to contemporary irresolutions. rhetoric, including pragmatism's rejection of philosophy with its traditional assumptions and practices. Grounding his argument on an

Regulatory reform compliance guide requirement has had little effect on agency practices. by Anonim Pdf

Section 212 does not appear to have had much of an impact in the agencies and years that we examined, and its implementation has varied across and sometimes within the agencies. The statute gives agencies broad discretion to decide which of their rules require compliance guides, what has to be in the guides, how they are developed, when they have to be published, and how they are distributed to affected small entities. Using that discretion, an agency could legally exclude all of its rules from coverage by the statute, designate a previously published document as its small entity compliance guide, or develop and publish a guide with no input from small entities years after the covered rule takes effect. Some of the ineffectiveness and inconsistency in the implementation of section 212 are traceable to the broad discretion provided to agencies in the RFA regarding the term significant economic impact on a substantial number of small entities. Although a single, rigid definition of this term may not be feasible, we believe that some additional clarity can be provided. Other problems with the compliance guide requirement are traceable to section 212 itself. We offer suggestions on how Congress may wish to amend the statute to make clear when agencies must prepare a compliance guide under section 212 and the meaning of key terms in the statute.

The Wrong Game by Kandi Steiner Pdf

Two season tickets. One genius idea.Zero interest in a relationship. The plan is simple: a brand new, hot, preferably funny, definitely single male will fill one of those seats for every Bears game at Soldier Field. And I'll fill the other.I can't think of a better way to use the season passes I'd bought for my ex-husband. I am a woman of plans, and this one's foolproof.Until Zach Bowen offers to be my practice round. He's infuriating. Presumptuous and overbearing. And absolutely, undeniably gorgeous. Any woman with a heartbeat would be attracted to him, and mine picks up speed every time he speaks. But as I said, I'm a woman of plans - and I'm not backing down on this one.One night. One game. And then, his time's up.He can try to change the rules, but here's the truth: he can't win if he's playing the wrong game. The Wrong Game is a stand-alone, angsty, enemies-to-lovers sports romance.

Why I Write by George Orwell Pdf

George Orwell set out ‘to make political writing into an art’, and to a wide extent this aim shaped the future of English literature – his descriptions of authoritarian regimes helped to form a new vocabulary that is fundamental to understanding totalitarianism. While 1984 and Animal Farm are amongst the most popular classic novels in the English language, this new series of Orwell’s essays seeks to bring a wider selection of his writing on politics and literature to a new readership. In Why I Write, the first in the Orwell’s Essays series, Orwell describes his journey to becoming a writer, and his movement from writing poems to short stories to the essays, fiction and non-fiction we remember him for. He also discusses what he sees as the ‘four great motives for writing’ – ‘sheer egoism’, ‘aesthetic enthusiasm’, ‘historical impulse’ and ‘political purpose’ – and considers the importance of keeping these in balance. Why I Write is a unique opportunity to look into Orwell’s mind, and it grants the reader an entirely different vantage point from which to consider the rest of the great writer’s oeuvre. 'A writer who can – and must – be rediscovered with every age.' — Irish Times
