The Who on Record by John Atkins Pdf

More than just a biography or discography, this work is a thoroughly detailed guide to the recorded works of the legendary British rock and roll group The Who. From their early hits of the 1960s ("I Can't Explain" and "My Generation") through the ambitious concept works (Tommy, Lifehouse, Quadrophenia) to their later successes, this work encompasses the entire range of The Who's music. The chronological narrative stretches from their beginnings in West London in the early 1960s to their international superstar status through the 1970s and 1980s. Each phase of the band's recording career is given detailed coverage, along with historical background notes and a critical analysis of every known Who recording. Many previously uncovered facts are incorporated into the text, and the author has been able to glean exclusive information from The Who's archives. Unrealized Who projects such as the Lifehouse film, as well as many unreleased performances, are discussed and analyzed for the first time in print. Finally, the work contains a definitive discography of currently available CDs and an exhaustive appendix of every known Who song with relevant recording information.

Who's Next by Andres Lepik,Daniel Talesnik Pdf

Homelessness--the state of having no home--is a growing global problem that requires local discussions and solutions. In the face of the coronavirus pandemic, it has noticeably become a collective concern. However, in recent years, the official political discourse in many countries around the world implies that poverty is a personal fault, and that if people experience homelessness, it is because they have not tried hard enough to secure shelter and livelihood. Although architecture alone cannot solve the problem of homelessness, the question arises: What and which roles can it play? Or, to be more precise, how can architecture collaborate with other disciplines in developing ways to permanently house those who do not have a home? Who's Next? Homelessness, Architecture, and Cities seeks to explore and understand a reality that involves the expertise of national, regional, and city agencies, nongovernmental organizations, health-care fields, and academic disciplines. Through scholarly essays, interviews, analyses of architectural case studies, and research on the historical and current situation in Los Angeles, Moscow, Mumbai, New York, São Paulo, San Francisco, Shanghai, and Tokyo, this book unfolds different entry points toward understanding homelessness and some of the many related problems. The book is a polyphonic attempt to break down this topic into as many parts as needed, so that the specificities and complexities of one of the most urgent crises of our time rise to the fore.

Who on the Who by Sean Egan Pdf

The Who were a mass of contradictions. They brought intellect to rock but were the darlings of punks. They were the quintessential studio act yet were also the greatest live attraction in the world. They perfectly meshed on stage and displayed a complete lack of personal chemistry offstage. Along with their great live shows and supreme audio experiences, the Who provided great copy. During the 1960s and '70s, Pete Townshend, messianic about contemporary popular music and its central importance in the lives of young people, gave sprawling interviews in which he alternately celebrated and deplored what he saw in the "scene." Several of these interviews have come to be considered classic documents of the age. Roger Daltrey, Keith Moon, and John Entwistle joined in. Even when the Who were non-operational or past their peak, their interviews continued to be as compelling: changes in allegiances and social mores left the band members freer to talk about sex, drug-taking, business, and in-fighting. By collecting interviews with Who members from across five decades, The Who on The Who provides the full, fractious story of the band.

The Who's Next Club by Donald W. Ayer Pdf

"On September 25, 2003, our daughter, Julie Ayer Rubenzer, walked into the Cosmetic Surgery Center in Sarasota, Florida. She did not walk out. This diary records the outrageous events that occurred from that first phone call to 2011-the ruling on Julie's death certificate," says author Donald W. Ayer. The Who's Next Club: A Cosmetic Surgery Disaster records the painful aftermath of a surgery gone wrong. This insightful true story was written in the hope of making a difference by reducing the cosmetic surgery death rate and exposing the disparity in justice when the people seeking justice are not rich or famous. After three months of suffering, Ayer's daughter was laid to rest on December 29, 2003. On the advice of their attorney, Ayer and his wife began this journal after their daughter entered the hospital; but they put it to rest for two months until February 2004, "when we learned what actually happened in that surgery room." In 2005, Florida conducted a licensing hearing in Sarasota. "We attended, heard the sworn testimony, and at that point had a legal record of that surgery." But the Ayers did not receive justice or closure. Donald W. Ayer lives with his wife, Maureen, in Waukesha, Wisconsin. He has a degree in English from the University of Wisconsin, Platteville, sold life insurance and then became a real estate agent. At age 74, he is now writing his second book, which he is also dedicating to his daughter, Julie.

Thanks a Lot Mr Kibblewhite by Roger Daltrey Pdf

The frontman of one of the greatest bands of all time tells the story of his rise from nothing to rock 'n' roll megastar, and his wild journey as the voice of The Who. “It’s taken me three years to unpack the events of my life, to remember who did what when and why, to separate the myths from the reality, to unravel what really happened at the Holiday Inn on Keith Moon’s 21st birthday,” says Roger Daltrey, the powerhouse vocalist of The Who. The result of this introspection is a remarkable memoir, instantly captivating, funny and frank, chock-full of well-earned wisdom and one-of-a-kind anecdotes from a raucous life that spans a tumultuous time of change in Britain and America. Born during the air bombing of London in 1944, Daltrey fought his way (literally) through school and poverty and began to assemble the band that would become The Who while working at a sheet metal factory in 1961. In Daltrey’s voice, the familiar stories—how they got into smashing up their kit, the infighting, Keith Moon’s antics—take on a new, intimate life. Also here is the creative journey through the unforgettable hits including My Generation, Substitute, Pinball Wizard, and the great albums, Who’s Next, Tommy, and Quadrophenia. Amidst all the music and mayhem, the drugs, the premature deaths, the ruined hotel rooms, Roger is our perfect narrator, remaining sober (relatively) and observant and determined to make The Who bigger and bigger. Not only his personal story, this is the definitive biography of The Who.
