The fifth in the saga of the Provincetown Tales. The winds of fortune are fickle guides…and happiness or heartbreak may be the destination. For Provincetown local Deo Camara, the only winds that have ever blown her way have been cold and lonely, and she doesn't expect things to improve when she is drawn into a family crisis against her will. Despite a decade of estrangement, however, Deo can't turn her back on the call of blood, no matter how high the price in heartache. Dr. Bonita Burgoyne is pleased with the changes she's made in her life…she has a rewarding new job and is looking forward to renovating the historic sea captain's house she has just purchased. She's content, and that's all she needs to be, or so she thinks until she hires Deo to head up the renovations. They have nothing in common except a shared legacy of betrayal by those they'd trusted the most, and an impossible attraction they would both prefer to ignore. Meanwhile, Bonita's new associate Dr. Tory King and her partner, Reese Conlon, must cero with the aftermath of the winds of war and the approaching fury of a very real gathering storm.

Now, how do you explain yourself out of that?" Lady Rhea Claire, kidnapped and shipped to the Colonies as an indentured servant, manages with wits and courage to escape...straight into the arms of a ruthless English pirate. For all his worldly ways, Dante Leighton, Marquis of Jacqobi and captain of the Sea Dragon, never expected to discover his redemption and his greatest treasure within the amethyst eyes of a beautiful English refugee. In the chaos of the Civil War, Sarah Peterson lost her beloved husband and only child, and endured seven years of captivity by the fierce Comanche. Finally freed, she returns to the only home she knows—only to find that she's just as much a prisoner of a cruel and judging society; until an unexpected champion offers her an escape to a place where her past will be unknown, and a new life... as his bride—in name only! A marriage of convenience to the commanding Hunter Tate, and a home on his Texas ranch seems an ideal solution. But now Sarah is torn between the shame she feels for her past and the fire—and longing—that Hunter Tate inspires. What can she offer this ardent, intelligent man? Is it just possible that love can heal—and let two hot-headed people share the promise of this rough and beautiful land—and each other's hearts?

Aeolian Winds and the Spirit in Renaissance Architecture by Barbara Kenda Pdf

Written by scholars of international stature, Aeolian Winds and the Spirit in Renaissance Architecture presents studies of Renaissance pneumatology exploring the relationship between architecture and the disciplines of art and science. One of the principle goals of Renaissance architects was to augment the powers of pneuma so as to foster the art of well-being. Central to the study of pneumatic architecture are six Italian villas connected together by a ventilating system of caves and tunnels, including Eolia, in which Trento established an academic circle of scholars that included Palladio, Tazzo and Ruzzante. Picking up on current interest in environmental issues, Aeolian Winds and the Spirit in Renaissance Architecture reintroduces Renaissance perspectives on the key relationships in environmental issues between architecture and art and science. This beautifully illustrated and unprecedented study will illuminate the studies of any architecture or Renaissance student or scholar.

In the Work of Their Hands is Their Prayer by Joel Daehnke Pdf

"Enlisting works by Mark Twain and Willa Cather, as well as noncanonical sources, such as private journals, Daehnke examines the manner in which the imagery of the human figure at work and play in the frontier landscape participated in the nationalist, "civilizing" project of westward expansion. While acknowledging the growing secularization of American life, Daehnke surveys the continuing claims of the Christian redemptive scheme as a powerful symbolic domain for these writers' reflections on social progress and the potential for human perfectibility in the landscapes of the West."--Jacket.

Metamorphosis by David Gallagher Pdf

The origins of selected instances of metamorphosis in Germanic literature are traced from their roots in Ovid's Metamorphoses, grouped roughly on an 'ascending evolutionary scale' (invertebrates, birds, animals, and mermaids). Whilst a broad range of mythological, legendary, fairytale and folktale traditions have played an appreciable part, Ovid's Metamorphoses is still an important comparative analysis and reference point for nineteenth- and twentieth-century German-language narratives of transformations. Metamorphosis is most often used as an index of crisis: an existential crisis of the subject or a crisis in a society's moral, social or cultural values. Specifically selected texts for analysis include Jeremias Gotthelf's Die schwarze Spinne (1842) with the terrifying metamorphoses of Christine into a black spider, the metamorphosis of Gregor Samsa in Kafka's Die Verwandlung (1915), ambiguous metamorphoses in E. T. A. Hoffmann's Der goldne Topf (1814), Hermann Hesse's Piktors Verwandlungen (1925), Der Steppenwolf (1927) and Christoph Ransmayr's Die letzte Welt (1988). Other mythical metamorphoses are examined in texts by Bachmann, Fouqué, Fontane, Goethe, Nietzsche, Nelly Sachs, Thomas Mann and Wagner, and these and many others confirm that metamorphosis is used historically, scientifically, for religious purposes; to highlight identity, sexuality, a dream state, or for metaphoric, metonymic or allegorical reasons.
