He became the youngest Trade Union leader of the national trade union AICCA and was its general secretary for more than 25 years and handled issues such as the privatisation of India, worker rights, and numerous court cases on fundamental rights before the High Court and Supreme Court of India. Book Extract : That night, around 2:30 a.m., we were abruptly awakened by blaring sirens and announcements on the hotel’s PA system, urging immediate evacuation. “This is an evacuation warning.” “This is not a drill.” “Please evacuate the hotel immediately.” “We made our way through the corridor, down the fire escape, and into the open car parking space facing Bath Road. I could see hundreds of people around me, who had also just evacuated the hotel, some running out in their nightgowns and some naked, as the splitting sound of the loud horn pulsated in my ears.” "On that damp, cold night in London, we all stood helpless in the middle of the night in the left and right car parking areas. After a brief period, we saw the bomb squads and London Police, come rushing in with the fire engines blaring.” “Few of us travelled to Canada and attended the trial. We were seated in an area barely 15 feet away from where Malik and Bagri sat during the trial, and for days, we sat there watching the killers of our families.” “I will never forget the expressions on the faces of those two criminals, smirking, knowing that they were responsible for the murder of my family and all 331 innocent souls on board that ill-fated Air India Flight 182. Throughout the trial, they sat with smirks on their faces, seemingly triumphant, while looking at the crowd and the families of the victims.” “My family just died again,” “They killed 331 people once more,” and “This was the gravest injustice inflicted upon the victims of the Air India bombing!” As CBC News reported, But Sanjay Lazar had no trouble summing up how they felt in one, biting sentence.” “Today, once again, 20 years on,” he said, “we have lost our families all over again—this time to the Canadian justice system." Reviews : "It shines a light on how justice was obstructed in the Kanishka Air India Bombing Case, the worst act of aviation terrorism globally, before 9/11. Years of hard work have gone into the writing of this book. A must-read book- BARKHA DUTT" "A moving read about courage and determination in the aftermath of the tragedy of the Kanishka bombing - VIR SANGHVI". "Now, at last, Sanjay is taking the time to lay out the whole story. He's "here as of right." He knows the law, he knows aviation, and he certainly knows about bereavement. And this time. He's not rushing from the airport at the very last minute.- TERRY MILEWSKI"

Wings of India by Shubham Ramesh Chavan Pdf

"The great civilization of India, which is known as Hindu culture, has contributed a lot in the field of science. This shows that they never promoted superstition, nor did the people remain undeveloped and ignorant. Aeronautical science in the twenty-first century is difficult and complex. In manufacturing an aircraft, each and every part of the aircraft has to be carefully tested and evaluated. Material selection, aerofoil selection, weight of the aircraft, thrust required etc. These factors have an impact in the manufacturing of aircraft. Many things were practiced repeatedly in Indian ancient aviation. They have told the material selection making vimana, the instruments used in vimana, the technique of making instruments, the weapons of the enemy vimana, the electric power that runs the vimana, the electric wire and the cover of the wire. This is surprising. I think we should try to study the Indian ancient culture once again. Maybe we can learn something from this. We may not be able to understand those techniques but we can definitely get new ideas to make things easier."

Wings of Empire by Barry Renfrew Pdf

At the end of the First World War, British power in the colonies was at an all-time low. That was until a ragtag band of visionaries, including Winston Churchill and T.E. Lawrence, proposed that the aeroplane, the wonder weapon of the age, could save the empire. Using the radical strategy of air control, the RAF tried to subdue vast swathes of the Middle East, Asia and Africa. Wings of Empire is a compelling account of the colonial air campaigns that saw a generation of young airmen take to the skies to battle against warlords, jihadists and hostile tribes. For the first time ever, this book chronicles the full story of the RAF's most extraordinary conflict.

Khaki on Broken Wings by Amod K. Kanth Pdf

In the second volume of the Police Diaries series, Khaki on Broken Wings, former director general of police Amod K. Kanth untangles some of the most sensational and heinous crimes that dominated national headlines. Deploying his deep knowledge of real world crimes committed by the rich and the powerful, Kanth lays bare the loopholes within the criminal justice system, comprising the police, whose investigations are crucial to any prosecution, the courts and lawyers, and the prison and correctional services, which they exploit ruthlessly. Among the many gripping stories Kanth narrates is the story of the mafia lord Romesh Sharma, who terrorised his targets to extort properties worth hundreds of crores and thwarted investigations using his access to powerful people in the political and corporate world. He also recounts how 'Bikini Killer' Charles Sobhraj managed a sensational escape from the high-security Tihar Jail in Delhi and the complex story behind the fight for justice in the BMW hit-and-run case that left several people dead. Kanth passionately argues for the radical restructuring of the criminal justice system so that the police and the justice system are able to protect the poor, the needy and the helpless instead of being subservient to the rich and the powerful.

China's Wings by Gregory Crouch Pdf

From the acclaimed author of Enduring Patagonia comes a dazzling tale of aerial adventure set against the roiling backdrop of war in Asia. The incredible real-life saga of the flying band of brothers who opened the skies over China in the years leading up to World War II—and boldly safeguarded them during that conflict—China’s Wings is one of the most exhilarating untold chapters in the annals of flight. At the center of the maelstrom is the book’s courtly, laconic protagonist, American aviation executive William Langhorne Bond. In search of adventure, he arrives in Nationalist China in 1931, charged with turning around the turbulent nation’s flagging airline business, the China National Aviation Corporation (CNAC). The mission will take him to the wild and lawless frontiers of commercial aviation: into cockpits with daredevil pilots flying—sometimes literally—on a wing and a prayer; into the dangerous maze of Chinese politics, where scheming warlords and volatile military officers jockey for advantage; and into the boardrooms, backrooms, and corridors of power inhabited by such outsized figures as Generalissimo and Madame Chiang Kai-shek; President Franklin Delano Roosevelt; foreign minister T. V. Soong; Generals Arnold, Stilwell, and Marshall; and legendary Pan American Airways founder Juan Trippe. With the outbreak of full-scale war in 1941, Bond and CNAC are transformed from uneasy spectators to active participants in the struggle against Axis imperialism. Drawing on meticulous research, primary sources, and extensive personal interviews with participants, Gregory Crouch offers harrowing accounts of brutal bombing runs and heroic evacuations, as the fight to keep one airline flying becomes part of the larger struggle for China’s survival. He plunges us into a world of perilous night flights, emergency water landings, and the constant threat of predatory Japanese warplanes. When Japanese forces capture Burma and blockade China’s only overland supply route, Bond and his pilots must battle shortages of airplanes, personnel, and spare parts to airlift supplies over an untried five-hundred-mile-long aerial gauntlet high above the Himalayas—the infamous “Hump”—pioneering one of the most celebrated endeavors in aviation history. A hero’s-eye view of history in the grand tradition of Lynne Olson’s Citizens of London, China’s Wings takes readers on a mesmerizing journey to a time and place that reshaped the modern world.
