Wings of Their Dreams by John Norberg Pdf

Throughout 100-plus years of flight, Purdue University has propelled unique contributions from pioneer educators, aviators, and engineers who flew balloons into the stratosphere, barnstormed the countryside, helped break the sound barrier, and left footprints in lunar soil. Wings of Their Dreams follows the flight plans and footsteps of aviation's pioneers and trailblazers across the twentieth century, a path from Kitty Hawk to the Sea of Tranquility and beyond. The book reminds readers that the first and last men to land on the moon first trekked across the West Lafayette, Indiana, campus on their journeys into the heavens and history. This is the story of an aeronautic odyssey of imagination, science, engineering, technology, adventure, courage, danger, and promise. It is the story of the human spirit taking flight, entwined with Purdue's legacy in aviation's history.

Lost Wings of the Soul by Robert Teach Pdf

I had two wonderful boys born into my life that I love with all my heart, and savoured every moment as they grew up. After a bitter divorce, my ex-wife methodically took all contact away from me and my children. I had lost part of my soul or the wings of who I was. I vowed with my children, that I wouldn't see them go through the mess of a divorce and separation of parents like I had, and the loss of who I really was deep inside. But it happened, and they became increasingly alienated from me. I lost who I was even more. Through a lot of soul searching and letting go, I found I needed to now heal the wings of my soul and truly delve deep inside what makes me who I am to escape this circle of loss. By learning from past mistakes and re-lighting the burning fires within, I could help myself and ultimately take myself and the soul of my wings to higher places I have not been before or places I was afraid to go before. Through these life lessons I was starting to find out my soul and my lost wings.

Wings of Her Dreams by Kitty Banner-Seeman,Bob Banner-Seemann Pdf

Kitty Banner was born into a loving, adventurous, Irish-American family in Chicago, Illinois, joining three older brothers and welcoming a second younger sister. The siblings enjoyed excellent guidance from their parents, who encouraged them to contribute to the work of the family business, to live life fully, to be considerate of others, and to strive for excellence. All generously shared their variety of interests, which ranged from hiking, fishing, climbing, target shooting, sailing and watersports, to snow skiing, horseback riding: and, in the case of her brothers, a passion for flying. Kitty was captivated by aviation and tried sky-diving before taking her first flying lesson from a unique and accomplished aerobatic pilot, a professor of geomorphology, and flight instructor, David Rahm. Once licensed as a pilot, Kitty went on to obtain an Instrument rating, her Commercial License, and her Glider and Flight Instructor Ratings. Inspired at the age of 14 by the motivation exhortations of Wilferd Peterson, author of "The Art of Living", Kitty, in turn, became a motivation and inspiration to all who came into contact with her. Having visited Alaska at age 19, hiking and exploring with a firend, Kitty could scarcely wait to return and, by age 22 with her pilot license in hand, she revisited Alaska, where she excelled. Kitty flew as a bush pilot and as a glacier pilot, mastering a variety of aircraft including heavy load transport with tundra tires on off-airport remote sites; seaplane and float operations, landings and takeoffs on the ice and snow of high altitude glaciers; and flying with exterior loads as well as exterior- mounted cameras for aerial filming and action photography. Kitty's evacuation flights included, among others, a newborn baby and his mother, survivors of two separate aircraft crashes, many mountain climbers from a world-wide number of countries, countless hunters and fisherman, and even sled dogs.

The Women with Silver Wings by Katherine Sharp Landdeck Pdf

“With the fate of the free world hanging in the balance, women pilots went aloft to serve their nation. . . . A soaring tale in which, at long last, these daring World War II pilots gain the credit they deserve.”—Liza Mundy, New York Times bestselling author of Code Girls “A powerful story of reinvention, community and ingenuity born out of global upheaval.”—Newsday When the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor in December 1941, Cornelia Fort was already in the air. At twenty-two, Fort had escaped Nashville’s debutante scene for a fresh start as a flight instructor in Hawaii. She and her student were in the middle of their lesson when the bombs began to fall, and they barely made it back to ground that morning. Still, when the U.S. Army Air Forces put out a call for women pilots to aid the war effort, Fort was one of the first to respond. She became one of just over 1,100 women from across the nation to make it through the Army’s rigorous selection process and earn her silver wings. The brainchild of trailblazing pilots Nancy Love and Jacqueline Cochran, the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) gave women like Fort a chance to serve their country—and to prove that women aviators were just as skilled as men. While not authorized to serve in combat, the WASP helped train male pilots for service abroad, and ferried bombers and pursuits across the country. Thirty-eight WASP would not survive the war. But even taking into account these tragic losses, Love and Cochran’s social experiment seemed to be a resounding success—until, with the tides of war turning, Congress clipped the women’s wings. The program was disbanded, the women sent home. But the bonds they’d forged never failed, and over the next few decades they came together to fight for recognition as the military veterans they were—and for their place in history.

On Wings Of The Morning by Marie Bostwick Pdf

Marie Bostwick delivers a captivating novel of soul mates discovering each other as the country faces its greatest challenge. . . Morgan Glennon's destiny points straight up into Oklahoma's clear, blue sky. It's been that way since he was four years old, imagining the famous flier father he's never met. Morgan leaves college to enlist as a Navy pilot, and his whole world suddenly changes when America goes to war. Watching his friends fall in battle, robs Morgan of the joy he always felt in the air. It will take one very unusual woman to help him get it back. . . Georgia Jean Carter learned early never to rely on a man for anything but trouble. Airplanes are different: they take a girl places most boyfriends can't. Remarkably, the war makes it possible for Georgia to do her part as a pilot. Flying with the WASPs brings a special sense of belonging--yet there's something missing that Georgia doesn't recognize until a brief encounter sets her dreaming about a young flyboy she barely knows. . . Praise for Marie Bostwick and Fields of Gold "A touching story." --Patricia Gaffney "Captivating and hauntingly beautiful. . .a true gem." --Romantic Times, 4 1⁄2 stars "A gripping, heartwarming story." --Dorothy Garlock on Fields of Gold
