Erika Sutter: Seen with Other Eyes by Gertrud Stiehle Pdf

The Swiss ophthalmologist Erika Sutter was born in Basel in 1917. She spent 32 years working in Elim Hospital, founded by the Swiss Mission in an impoverished rural area in North-Eastern South Africa. Together with her African colleague and friend, Selina Maphorogo, she founded the Care Groups, village self-help groups working for better health in their communities. The movement is still active after more than 30 years, and now has around 2,000 members, mostly women, in over 200 villages. Erika Sutter has received numerous international honours and awards for her pioneering work, including the award Woman of the Year in 1984 from the South African newspaper The Star, and an honorary doctorate from the University of Basel. For the creation of this biography, Erika Sutter spent many hours with the author, her friend Gertrud Stiehle, telling the story of her long life vividly, with a sharp eye for social issues, a hint of self-irony, and dry wit. Her account does not ignore events in the wider world. She experienced life on the Swiss-German border during the Second World War, and her years of working in South Africa were those when the apartheid policies of the South African Government were becoming more and more repressive, affecting many aspects of life in the country.

When archaeologist Blue Eriksen's book Goddess shot to bestsellerdom, no one was more surprised than Blue herself. Now she's studying ancient sites across the world, looking for evidence of the use of hallucinogens in long-dead religions. She believes that one of these substances may prevent or cure drug addiction. Surely that's a good thing—so why is someone trying to kill her? Leeuwarden Associates is the cover name for a deeply secret international organization that facilitates the production, delivery, and sale of illegal drugs worldwide. Leeuwarden considers Blue a threat to their drug empire and sends one of their enforcers to kill her. Europe in Its Own Eyes, Europe in the Eyes of the Other by David B. MacDonald,Mary-Michelle DeCoste Pdf

What is Europe? Who is European? What do Europe and European identity mean in the twenty-first century? This collection of sixteen essays seeks to answer these questions by focusing on Europe as it is seen through its own eyes and through the eyes of others across a variety of cultural texts, including sport, film, literature, dance, cartography, and fashion. These texts, as interpreted here by emerging researchers as well as well-established scholars, enable us to engage with European identities in the plural and to understand what these identities mean in larger cultural and political contexts. The interdisciplinary focus of this volume permits an exploration of European identity that reaches beyond the area of European studies to incorporate understandings of identity from the viewpoints of both insider and other. Contributors explore diverse understandings of what it means to be “other” to a country, a culture, a society, or a subgroup. This book offers a fresh perspective on the evolving concept of identity—in the context of Europe’s past, present, and future—and expands on the existing literature by considering the political tensions and social implications of the development of European identity, as well as its literary, artistic, and cultural manifestations.

Through the Eyes of Another by Karen Noe Pdf

The lesson from beyond this world that allows everyone to understand and transform their lives As a psychic medium, Karen Noe often receives messages of regret—deceased loved ones communicate that they’re now able to see that they should have said or done things differently when they were still on Earth. In Through the Eyes of Another, Karen shows that you don’t have to die to go through your life review. You can go through it now . . . before it’s too late. Karen explains how writing different types of letters can help you see the "bigger picture" of the way you’re affecting those in your path. She takes you on a personal journey of how her life was transformed after she wrote these types of letters to her loved ones, and then goes on to demonstrate how you can do the same. By seeing everything through the eyes of others, you will learn how to: • Heal your relationships • Love and honor yourself • Forgive your living and deceased loved ones • See more positive aspects in those around you • Understand more fully why others do certain things • Become more compassionate As an added bonus, Karen shares stories from her favorite readings to answer some of the most common questions people have concerning the afterlife.

Through the Eyes of Others by Christie Savino Pdf

I want to do something with my life that makes it all worth it. Things haven't always been easy in my life and I have been through some tough stuff, but I have made a choice. I have made a choice to create a life as a survivor instead of living the life of a victim. I wanted to write a book, but I wanted it to be different. I thought telling my story so plain and going detail to detail was not for me. I decided to interview some of the most influential people in my life and see how they saw me and my story. This book it's not perfect and I say again and again I really have no idea what I am doing or how to write a book. The message here is not that the book is perfectly written, or that the grammar is exactly right in every situation. The point here is that this is the voices of people starting a conversation on the topics of child abuse, domestic violence, and mental health. The point here is to be able to use this book and my story to help and influence each other.
