Yet, although we possess these rare advantages, we cannot Shut our eyes to manifest symptoms, which clearly indicate that the people - the working-classes, we Should perhaps say - are suffering under some acute internal disorder. To reconcile these ap parently contradictory phenomena would be almost a hopeless task; but we may possibly trace the sources whence some of our difficulties proceed, and suggest a remedy to prevent their periodic recurrence.
