Story Workshop by Susan Harris MacKay Pdf

Even our youngest students have lots of stories to tell, whether real or imagined. How can we create entry points for writing, so that all writers feel confident and motivated to share their stories? How can we establish a classroom community of beginning writers where equity, empathy, and compassion become part of the process and vital by-products of story writing? Enter story workshop, a structure for early literacy that amplifies the relationship between play, art, and writing. Children develop ideas and stories through choices of art materials. By creating images through play, story workshop invites children to explore the "amazingness" (Nisa, age 10) of their ideas in a variety of art forms. "Through their stories," Susan writes, "students share the meaning they make of their experiences in the world." Children in every classroom environment feel empowered to transition from play to pencil as they add words to their stories. Story Workshopincludes an abundance of classroom videos, photos, and student samples that illustrate what is possible when children use words, colors, textures, shapes and all kinds of materials to create the stories they want to tell. Watch how students' imaginations soar, their love of writing blossoms, and their connections with one another become the focal point of your classroom.

Art Workshop for Children by Barbara Rucci,Betsy McKenna Pdf

Art Workshop for Children is not just another book of straightforward art projects. The book's unique child-led approach provides a framework for cultivating creative thinking and encourages the wonder that comes when children are allowed to freely explore the creative process and their materials. As children work through these open-ended workshops, adults are guided on how to be facilitators who provide questions, encourage deep thinking, and help spark an excitement for discovery. Children explore basic materials and workshops that use minimal supplies, and then gradually add new materials to fill the art cabinets as well as new skills and more complex workshops. Most workshops are suitable to preschool-aged children, and each contains ideas for explorations and new twists to engage older or more experienced artists. Interspersed throughout are sidebar essays that introduce perspectives on mess-making, imperfection, the role of adult, collaborative art, and thoughts on the Reggio Emilia method, a self-guided teaching philosophy. These pieces underscore the value of art-making with children, and support the parent/teacher/care-giver on how to successfully lead, question, and navigate their children through the workshops to result in the fullest experiences.

Fields, Factories and Workshops by Kropotkin Peter Kropotkin Pdf

Introduction by George WoodcockIt would not be an exaggeration to describe this book as the central work of Kropotkin's writing career. In one way or another, it occupied more than twenty years of his life. It is a work of argument and suggestion rather than dogmatic statement, and the very tentativeness of this great book make its perceptions all the more relevant. With at one time Kropotkin's view of our future might have been regarded as a Utopian dream, today, as a result of the growing realization that the world's resources of energy and raw materials are finite, that food is our most precious commodity and that people's working lives are futile and stultifying, the lessons of this book, for both the rich world and the poor, are topical and hopeful. In addition to a general introduction to the most significant aspects of Kropotkin's life and thought, George Woodcock has prepared a comprehensive afterword to each essay, allowing the reader to fully see Kropotkin's ideas in the context of the world a century later. Is the 9th volume of the The Collected Works of Peter Kropotkin.Table of contentsEditor's IntroductionPreface to the Second EditionPreface to the First EditionChapter 1The Decentralization of IndustriesEditor's Afterword to Chapter 1Chapter 2The Possibilities of AgricultureEditor's Afterword to Chapter 2Chapter 3Small Industries and Industrial VillagesEditor's Afterword to Chapter 3Chapter 4Brain Work and Manual WorkEditor's Afterword to Chapter 4Chapter 5ConclusionEditor's Epilogue1994: 255 pages, index

Insights from Participatory Prospective Analysis (PPA) workshops in Nepal by Banjade, M.R.,Paudel, N.S.,Mwangi, E. Pdf

Key messagesAs Nepal goes through a process of creating a new decentralized federal system of government, a CIFOR-ForestAction project used Participatory Prospective Analysis - a foresight method for co-elaborating future scenarios and developing strategies - to understand emerging issues and to bring the issues and scenarios to forest policy making at the provincial and federal levels.Forestry experts identified several external factors likely to impact the rights of community forest user groups under the new federal structure. These factors include national legal frameworks, macroeconomic policies, the emergence of new sub-national governments, and a changing political context. Experts also considered how the future of community forestry might be influenced by internal factors, such as the rules of community forest user groups, governance arrangements, strategies, plan implementation, conflict management systems, and relationships with local governments. To strengthen the rights of community forest user groups, experts recommended the following: the adoption of good governance principles in community forest user groups; networking and capacity building; a strengthening of relationships with local government and other stakeholders; the use of improved technology; forest-based enterprise development; and poverty reduction.Participatory Prospective Analysis was found to be a good methodological tool for effective planning, and participants thought it could improve local environmental planning. With some customization and contextual refinement, it can be adopted by community forestry groups, local government ward offices and municipalities to assist Nepal's forestry sector in its transition to a decentralized system.
