Web Data Management by Serge Abiteboul,Ioana Manolescu,Philippe Rigaux,Marie-Christine Rousset,Pierre Senellart Pdf

The Internet and World Wide Web have revolutionized access to information. Users now store information across multiple platforms from personal computers to smartphones and websites. As a consequence, data management concepts, methods and techniques are increasingly focused on distribution concerns. Now that information largely resides in the network, so do the tools that process this information. This book explains the foundations of XML with a focus on data distribution. It covers the many facets of distributed data management on the Web, such as description logics, that are already emerging in today's data integration applications and herald tomorrow's semantic Web. It also introduces the machinery used to manipulate the unprecedented amount of data collected on the Web. Several 'Putting into Practice' chapters describe detailed practical applications of the technologies and techniques. The book will serve as an introduction to the new, global, information systems for Web professionals and master's level courses.

XML-based Content Management by Ricardo Eito-Brun Pdf

XML-based Content Management: Integration, Methodologies and Tools covers the design and deployment of XML-based solutions and how to manage content and metadata, a practice that requires a more methodological approach than those traditionally applied to the design and deployment of document and content management solutions. The extensive use of XML implies the need of adding additional activities, quality controls, and tools to the established document-management and web-application design processes. The book describes a methodology that covers the different phases of the content and metadata management lifecycle, from generation, to archiving, to compliance with existing content management and archiving standards. In addition, the book reviews the key characteristics of the tools necessary for storage, retrieval and delivery. Focuses on methodologies for the design and deployment of XML-based content management solutions based on standards like BMPN and SPEM Provides an updated view of consolidated technologies for structured data management Explains the link between technologies for content storage and distribution Presents the conceptual knowledge to understand and relate the strategic view provided by OAIS with the management of daily operations focused on content collection, aggregation and publishing

XML-Based Data Management and Multimedia Engineering - EDBT 2002 Workshops by Akmal B. Chaudhri,Chabane Djeraba,Rainer Unland,Wolfgang Lindner Pdf

This volume comprises papers from the following three workshops that were part of the complete program for the International Conference on Extending Database Technology (EDBT) held in Prague, Czech Republic, in March 2002: XML-Based Data Management (XMLDM) Second International Workshop on Multimedia Data and Document Engineering (MDDE) Young Researchers Workshop (YRWS) Together, the three workshops featured 48 high-quality papers selected from approximately 130 submissions. It was, therefore, difficult to decide on the papers that were to be accepted for presentation. We believe that the accepted papers substantially contribute to their particular fields of research. The workshops were an excellent basis for intense and highly fruitful discussions. The quality and quantity of papers show that the areas of interest for the workshops are highly active. A large number of excellent researchers are working in relevant fields producing research output that is not only of interest to other researchers but also for industry. The organizers and participants of the workshops were highly satisfied with the output. The high quality of the presenters and workshop participants contributed to the success of each workshop. The amazing environment of Prague and the location of the EDBT conference also contributed to the overall success. Last, but not least, our sincere thanks to the conference organizers – the organizing team was always willing to help and if there were things that did not work, assistance was quickly available.

Stream Data Management by Nauman Chaudhry,Kevin Shaw,Mahdi Abdelguerfi Pdf

Researchers in data management have recently recognized the importance of a new class of data-intensive applications that requires managing data streams, i.e., data composed of continuous, real-time sequence of items. Streaming applications pose new and interesting challenges for data management systems. Such application domains require queries to be evaluated continuously as opposed to the one time evaluation of a query for traditional applications. Streaming data sets grow continuously and queries must be evaluated on such unbounded data sets. These, as well as other challenges, require a major rethink of almost all aspects of traditional database management systems to support streaming applications. Stream Data Management comprises eight invited chapters by researchers active in stream data management. The collected chapters provide exposition of algorithms, languages, as well as systems proposed and implemented for managing streaming data. Stream Data Management is designed to appeal to researchers or practitioners already involved in stream data management, as well as to those starting out in this area. This book is also suitable for graduate students in computer science interested in learning about stream data management.

Querying XML by Jim Melton,Stephen Buxton Pdf

XML has become the lingua franca for representing business data, for exchanging information between business partners and applications, and for adding structure–and sometimes meaning—to text-based documents. XML offers some special challenges and opportunities in the area of search: querying XML can produce very precise, fine-grained results, if you know how to express and execute those queries. For software developers and systems architects: this book teaches the most useful approaches to querying XML documents and repositories. This book will also help managers and project leaders grasp how “querying XML fits into the larger context of querying and XML. Querying XML provides a comprehensive background from fundamental concepts (What is XML?) to data models (the Infoset, PSVI, XQuery Data Model), to APIs (querying XML from SQL or Java) and more. * Presents the concepts clearly, and demonstrates them with illustrations and examples; offers a thorough mastery of the subject area in a single book. * Provides comprehensive coverage of XML query languages, and the concepts needed to understand them completely (such as the XQuery Data Model).* Shows how to query XML documents and data using: XPath (the XML Path Language); XQuery, soon to be the new W3C Recommendation for querying XML; XQuery's companion XQueryX; and SQL, featuring the SQL/XML * Includes an extensive set of XQuery, XPath, SQL, Java, and other examples, with links to downloadable code and data samples.
