Yak on Track by Heather McNeice Pdf

It seemed like a good idea to Heather at the time: organise a challenging trek to raise funds for the education of young Bhutanese girls. Heather had walked in the Himalayas before, so how hard could it be on the trail to Lunana, Bhutan?s most remote plateau? On the 240-kilometre trek, she discovers that `hard? doesn?t even come close. Along with her friend Krista, like-minded lover of mountains and margaritas, a team of eccentric guides and far too many horses, Heather sets off into a landscape of savage beauty, where yetis are feared and only yaks feel at ease. As the team face blizzards, avalanches, altitude sickness and snow blindness, their reward is a rare glimpse of life in the last Shangri-La. At its heart, this book is a love song to Bhutan and its people, an intimate portrait of the only remaining Buddhist kingdom of the Himalayas. Yak on Track is a delightful story about losing yourself but not losing your way. Heather is donating a portion of her royalties from the sale of this book to the Australian Himalayan Foundation in support of a scholarship program for disadvantaged children in Bhutan.

This textbook covers the syllabus of Semester College course on data structures. It provides both a strong theoretical base in data structures and an advanced approach to their representation in C. The text is useful to C professionals and programmers, as well as students of any branch of Engineering of graduate and postgraduate courses. The data structures are presented with in the context of complete working programs that have been tested both on a UNIX system and a personal computer using Turbo-C++, Compiler. The code is developed in a top-down fashion, typically with the low-level data structures implementation following the high-level application code. This approach foster good programming habits and makes subject matter more interesting. The book has three goals- to develop a consistent programming methodology, to develop data structures access techniques and to introduce algorithms. The bulk of the text is developed to make a strong hold on data structures. Programming style and development methodology are introduced and its applications are presented. Unsung Battles of 1962 by Gurdip Singh Kler Pdf

In this book Colonel Kler has vividly narrated the battles fought on the Himalayan borders during the Sino–Indian War. He is eminently fit to write this book since he personally fought alongside the frontline soldiers and for hours, in daylight and darkness, he remained at a breathing distance from the enemy. The theme of the book is threefold. Firstly, the author has refuted the acrimonious allegations that Indian troops abandoned their trenches and fled from the battlefield in the face of the enemy in 1962 without any fight and has discounted the slanderous tales about the cowardice of our soldiers. Secondly, contrarily, the writer narrates the gallant acts of the Indian solder under the most adverse conditions of height, terrain, arctic weather and extenuating communications. Fighting on the exterior lines, when poorly supplied, troops magnificently stood out in the face of waves of ferocious and overwhelming assaults of the veteran Chinese soldiers of the Korean war where they jabbed through the ranks of the American Army. Though the Indian troops were denied offensive air support, artillery cover was meagre and the terrain was unsuitable for the employment of armour, the performance of the troops was magnificent. Fighting pitched battles, some Indian sub-units in Thagla, Bumla, Walong and Chasul sectors were completely wiped out. Troops fought out tenacious patrol encounters around Sela and kept the enemy at bay for almost a month. They also uprooted enemy roadblocks at Nyukmadong, below Sela. Thirdly, Colonel Kler has made certain pragmatic and cogent suggestions regarding re-location of Headquarters Eastern Command and its formations in the distant, increasingly active and vibrant East. He has some ideas to put forward about the defence forces in general. He has also advanced practical and sound solutions regarding the vexed historical frontiers with China and the festering Jammu and Kashmir problem, they legacy of the partition of the subcontinent. The two balanced solutions can certainly impart stability to India and the region.

The Yak Dilemma by Supriya Kaur Dhaliwal Pdf

In The Yak Dilemma, Supriya Kaur Dhaliwal ventures out of the mountain ranges of Palampur and across vast distances of land and sea. From scenes playing out through Dublin windows to ruminating on wearing a Sadri in the West, these innovative mediations are as much about personal identity as they are a testament to the human spirit’s drive to cross territory and forge a ‘map’ of our own. Kaur Dhaliwal’s map, if she has one, is without architecture or foundations; ‘Four walls don’t make a home or a house—it takes some doing’, she writes in Ghazal on Living in a Hotel in Downtown Cairo. She is part of a dynamic new generation of poets pushing the medium into exciting new areas by questioning the notion of ‘place’ and its effect on our bodies—including the human spirit and memory. Uprooted and unsettled, her lyrical voice generously outlines ‘home’ as something other than a physical place. The Yak Dilemma is a remarkable poetic journey, its words create new territories by carefully revealing the fragile spaces that fall in between. ‘Dhaliwal writes with a rich fluency of tongues, evoking pathos and pleasure in equal measure.’ — Nidhi Zak/Aria Eipe, author of Auguries of a Minor God ‘Dhaliwal is an important and vibrantly exciting new voice in poetry.’ — Rebecca Tamás, author of WITCH and Strangers ‘These are songs of belonging and of movement, of fluid identity, carefully crafted and always graceful.’ — Seán Hewitt, author of Tongues of Fire ‘Dhaliwal’s writing is evocative, thrilling, and magnificent.’ — Zeba Talkhani, author of My Past is a Foreign Country ‘A heartfelt, entertaining debut’ — André Naffis-Sahely, author of The Promised Land: Poems from Itinerant Life 'Kaur Dhaliwal travels through time and space and the self; I wanted to go wherever she was heading.’ — Jen Calleja, author of Goblins ‘The Yak Dilemma is beautiful, transportative and so deeply felt.’ – Lucia Osborne-Crowley, author of I Choose Elena ‘The Yak Dilemma asks: why risk myopia, when we can move forward—and unfold?’ — Sana Goyal, Poetry London ‘a collection which inspires a complex mix of pathos, longing, curiosity and joy.’ — Rober Greer, Idler ‘an illuminating exercise about the self and our surroundings’ — Nidhi Verma, Platform

Aftershock by Jules Mountain Pdf

Jules Mountain is a survivor. The odds of surviving his type of cancer were one in five. The odds of dying on Everest are one in 60, but these are severely shortened when factoring in an avalanche triggered by the 2015 Nepal earthquake. Jules lived to tell both tales, which he does in a way that conveys the agony and euphoria that extreme adventurers face, even when things go according to plan. And yet this is not merely an account of what happened in the aftermath of the most deadly disaster ever on the world's most iconic mountain. It is an exploration—internal as well as physical—of how logic, compassion and risk assessment are affected by altitude, vested interests and the stress of extreme circumstances.

Verb-Verb Complexes in Asian Languages by Taro Kageyama,Peter E. Hook,Prashant Pardeshi Pdf

This volume is the first to present a detailed survey of the systems of verb-verb complexes in Asian languages from both a synchronic and diachronic perspective. Many Asian languages share, to a greater or lesser extent, a unique class of compound verbs consisting of a main verb and a quasi-auxiliary verb known as a 'vector' or 'explicator'. These quasi-auxiliary verbs exhibit unique grammatical behaviour that suggests that they have an intermediate status between full lexical verbs and wholly reduced auxiliaries. They are also semantically unique, in that when they are combined with main verbs, they can convey a rich variety of functional meanings beyond the traditional notions of tense, aspect, and modality, such as manner and intensity of action, benefaction for speaker or hearer, and polite or derogatory styles in speech. In this book, leading specialists in a range of Asian languages offer an in-depth analysis of the long-standing questions relating to the diachrony and geographical distribution of verb-verb complexes. The findings have implications for the general understanding of the grammaticalization of verb categories, complex predicate formation, aktionsart and event semantics, the morphology-syntax-semantics interface, areal linguistics, and typology.
