One Special Whale by The Fif John W Kimball Learning Center Pdf
The hero of this book is Kleenex, a North Atlantic right whale, and one of the most endangered animals in the world. (Scientists named her Kleenex because of the white spot on her head.) In this charming tale, written from Kleenex's perspective by fifth graders at a public elementary school in Park Slope, Brooklyn, the whale explains the threats to her species' survival and her important role as a matriarch to more than 20 descendants. She recounts her epic yearly migration and the dramatic story of how she became entangled in fishing rope--and how rescuers have tried to set her free. This book is the sixth in PS 107's One Special Animal series. All proceeds from the book are donated to the International Fund for Animal Welfare, to assist their marine conservation program.

Youth Gone Wild by Robert "Bob" Sorensen Pdf
Youth Gone Wild is a story about a young boy born in 1962 on the Northwest Side of Chicago to parents ill prepared to raise a son. His premature birth prevented him from bonding with his mother at an early age. His older sister paved the way for how Robert would be raised as her “little sister.” Many years of pain and suffering at the hands of his bullies ensued. It wasn’t until his discovery of heavy metal rock music that Robert found a way out of his chains. Rock music became his religion. It gave him the strength, the courage, and the self-confidence to take back control of his life and to control his own destiny. As the years passed, the transition from a good little boy to an out-of-control teenager was set in motion. This is not your typical coming-of-age story. Robert truly was a youth gone wild! All boundaries were shattered. Nothing was off-limits. Along with his cast of characters, he would blaze a path of “creative” mayhem second to none.

The Story of My Boyhood and Youth by John Muir Pdf
The Story of My Boyhood and Youth reveals the beginnings of the forming of Muir's special relation towards nature. He considered the encounters with nature as quite an adventure and at first, paid special attention to bird life. John Muir understood that to discover truth, he must turn to what he believed were the most accurate sources. In his autobiographical account, The Story of My Boyhood and Youth, he writes that during his childhood, his father made him read the Bible every day. Muir eventually memorized three-quarters of the Old Testament and all of the New Testament. In his autobiography, written near the end of his life, he described his life from childhood years in Scotland and moving to America to student years in Wisconsin. When he was a student in the University of Wisconsin, he was a frequent caller at the house of Dr. Ezra S. Carr. The kindness shown him there, and especially the sympathy which Mrs. Carr, as a botanist and a lover of nature, felt in the young manes interests and aims, led to the formation of a lasting friendship. He regarded Mrs. Carr, indeed, as his "spiritual mother," and his letters to her in later years are the outpourings of a sensitive spirit to one who he felt thoroughly understood and sympathized with him.

Feral Youth by Shaun David Hutchinson,Suzanne Young,Marieke Nijkamp,Robin Talley,Stephanie Kuehn,E. C. Myers,Tim Floreen,Alaya Dawn Johnson,Justina Ireland,Brandy Colbert Pdf
Ten teens are left alone in the wilderness during a three-day survival test in this multi-authored novel led by award-winning author Shaun David Hutchinson. At Zeppelin Bend, an outdoor-education program designed to teach troubled youth the value of hard work, cooperation, and compassion, ten teens are left alone in the wild. The teens are a diverse group who come from all walks of life, and were all sent to Zeppelin Bend as a last chance to get them to turn their lives around. They’ve just spent nearly two weeks hiking, working, learning to survive in the wilderness, and now their instructors have dropped them off eighteen miles from camp with no food, no water, and only their packs, and they’ll have to struggle to overcome their vast differences if they hope to survive. Inspired by The Canterbury Tales, the characters in Feral Youth, each complex and damaged in their own ways, are enticed to tell a story (or two) with the promise of a cash prize. The stories range from noir-inspired revenge tales to mythological stories of fierce heroines and angry gods. And while few of the stories are claimed to be based in truth, they ultimately reveal more about the teller than the truth ever could.

The Will of the Land by Peter Dettling Pdf
Peter Dettling first visited Canada’s internationally renowned Rocky Mountains national parks as a Swiss tourist in 1993. Immediately, he fell in love with the untouched wilderness, breathtaking landscapes, diverse flora and abundant animal life, all seemingly free from human intervention and manipulation. With wide-eyed exuberance, Dettling moved to the heart of the Canadian Rockies in 2003, working as an artist and nature photographer. For years he documented the beauty and splendour of life in the mountains of western Canada, selling his art and photography to countless tourists and locals. In time, however, he gained insight into the realities of nature’s growing struggle against developing tourism, ill-conceived transportation routes and questionable wildlife management practices. Through Dettling’s stunning photography and passionate narrative, The Will of the Land serves as an incredible artistic testament to the beauty of the natural world and the sometimes painful truth of hyperdevelopment in majestic landscapes, offering the reader a dynamic and broad vision of what national parks should stand for in our ever-changing world.

Friend of My Youth by Alice Munro Pdf
A “wickedly funny” (Newsweek) collection of ten short stories from Nobel Prize–winning author Alice Munro, “one of the most eloquent and gifted writers of contemporary fiction” (Michiko Kakutani, The New York Times). “Each of her collections demonstrates such linguistic skill, delicacy of vision, and . . . moral strength and clarity.”—Chicago Tribune A woman haunted by dreams of her dead mother. An adulterous couple stepping over the line where the initial excitement ends and the pain begins. A widow visiting a Scottish village in search of her husband’s past—and instead discovering unsetting truths about a total stranger. The miraculously accomplished stories in this collection not only astonish and delight, but also convey the unspoken mysteries at the heart of all human experience. The mastery—the almost numinous ability to say the unsayable—makes Friend of My Youth a genuine literary event.
