Many readers have described remarkable improvements after reading the lessons taught in this book - and many professional players have reported winning more tournaments. Lotus Lake Dragon Pool by Trevor Leggett Pdf

Collected by the author over many years, these stories from the Yoga and Zen traditions are the flint and steel that strike a spark that lights up the mind with insights that one should ponder daily to bring to light ever deeper meaning. They may be similar in intent to Zen Koans – but they are rather different in content. TIn many Zen Koans someone says or does something extraordinarily inappropriate, which catches your attention just because it's extraordinary –but afterwards the light from them has to be applied to daily life. In contrast, the stories here are often ordinary incidents from ordinary lives (not that there aren't some extraordinary ones too!) that nevertheless open the mind's eye to the vast potential for realization and inspiration to be found in daily life.

A Still Forest Pool by Achaan Chah Pdf

Achaan Chah spent many years walking and meditating in the forest monastery of Wat Ba Pong, engaging in the uncomplicated and disciplined Buddhist practice called dhudanga. A Still Forest Pool reflects the quiet, intensive, and joyous practice of the forest monks of Thailand. Achaan Chah’s humble words, compiled by two Westerners who are former ordained monks, awaken the spirit of inquiry, wonderment, understanding, and deep inner peace. Attachment, according to Achaan Chah, causes all suffering. Understanding the impermanent, insecure, and selfless nature of life is the message he offers for human happiness and realization. To vividly grasp the meaning of attachment leads us to a new place of practice – the path of balance, the Middle Path.

The Other Side of Zen by Duncan Ryūken Williams Pdf

Popular understanding of Zen Buddhism typically involves a stereotyped image of isolated individuals in meditation, contemplating nothingness. This book presents the "other side of Zen," by examining the movement's explosive growth during the Tokugawa period (1600-1867) in Japan and by shedding light on the broader Japanese religious landscape during the era. Using newly-discovered manuscripts, Duncan Ryuken Williams argues that the success of Soto Zen was due neither to what is most often associated with the sect, Zen meditation, nor to the teachings of its medieval founder Dogen, but rather to the social benefits it conveyed. Zen Buddhism promised followers many tangible and attractive rewards, including the bestowal of such perquisites as healing, rain-making, and fire protection, as well as "funerary Zen" rites that assured salvation in the next world. Zen temples also provided for the orderly registration of the entire Japanese populace, as ordered by the Tokugawa government, which led to stable parish membership. Williams investigates both the sect's distinctive religious and ritual practices and its nonsectarian participation in broader currents of Japanese life. While much previous work on the subject has consisted of passages on great medieval Zen masters and their thoughts strung together and then published as "the history of Zen," Williams' work is based on care ul examination of archival sources including temple logbooks, prayer and funerary manuals, death registries, miracle tales of popular Buddhist deities, secret initiation papers, villagers' diaries, and fund-raising donor lists.

Zen and Now by Mark Richardson Pdf

On the Trail of Robert Pirsig's Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, Zen and Now is the story of a story that will appeal to the 5 million readers of the original and serve as an initiation to a whole new generation. Since its original publication in 1968, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance: An Inquiry into Values has touched whole generations of readers with its serious attempt to define “quality” in a world that seems indifferent to the responsibilities that quality brings. Mark Richardson expands that journey with an investigation of his own – to find the enigmatic author of Zen and the Art, ask him a few questions, and place his classic book in context. The result manages to be a biography of Pirsig himself – in the discovery of an unknown life of madness, murder and eventual resolution – and a splendid meditation on creativity and problem-solving, sanity and insanity.

Dale Brown's Dreamland: Satan's Tail by Dale Brown,Jim DeFelice Pdf

New York Times–Bestselling Authors: When terrorists take to the sea, America attacks from the air . . . In the Nevada desert, the high-tech future of warfare is being built at a top-secret military facility called Dreamland . . . As extremist Islamic pirates, armed and supported by a powerful Saudi terrorist, prey on civilian vessels in the Gulf of Aden, America aggressively answers with serious muscle—a next-generation littoral warship with a full range of automated weapons systems that the enemy has dubbed “Satan's Tail.” But unforeseen technological problems—combined with the suicidal tendencies of a fanatical foe—mean support is needed from above, and a pair of Dreamland’s awesome Megafortresses and their Flighthawk escorts are dispatched to the war zone. However, bitter professional rivalries threaten to damage, perhaps even destroy, the mission, as a vengeful opponent takes advantage of the disruption to strengthen his outlaw navy and set its sights horrifically high—raising the stakes in a battle the U.S. and the world simply cannot afford to lose. Acclaim for Dale Brown “When a former pilot turns his hand to writing thrillers you can take their authenticity for granted. His writing is exceptional and the dialogue, plots and characters are first-class.” —Sunday Mirror “Few novelists can craft an aerial battle scene more strategically.” —Publishers Weekly “Brown puts us into the cockpits of wonderful machines and gives us quite a ride . . . authentic and gripping.” —The New York Times

Chronicles of Alluvia by JCM Pdf

Who would have believed a job interview would result in being whisked away from earth, against their will, to a medieval world embroiled in chaos across dimensions, ruled secretly by an elite council who, in their omnipotence, had not considered there could be unforeseen consequences? Their plan was simply to rule the totality of Alluvia. The Certamen of Straterra, a continuum of organized and controlled conflicts regulated through a complex set of rules, commonly referred to as the game was intended to cause and maintain balance not empower an evil that would care more about conquest than rules, more about power than the welfare of any other being, or would challenge their authority and assume control with ruthless efficiency. Greyson and Miry, each considered a pawn in the game, were selected and imprisoned separately with the extraordinary expectation of each giving birth to three representatives drawn from their lineage who have the innate characteristics necessary to stand as a picket against an evil that had not been defeated in 250 rotations of the game. And so the journey begins in the land of Alluvia. A mysterious and chaotic world of multiple dimensions and considerable diversity in populations, Flora and Fauna. Embrace the journey through this world of dwarves and dragons, shapeshifters and shaman, ogres and elves, humans and halflings, mage born and seers. A journey that delves deep into the nuances of life, love, hurt, and hate...the despair of war and the joy of brief respites from the chaos. Be warned, those who choose to enter this world will not emerge unaffected...the folk you meet will seep into your heart and never quite let you go...
