System Zoo 2 Simulation Models by Hartmut Bossel Pdf

Mathematical modeling and computer simulation make it possible to understand and control the dynamic processes taking place in complex systems. Simulation provides insights into the often surprising diversity of possible behaviors, and allows identifying possibilities for intervention and options for alternative development. About one hundred simulation models from all areas of life are fully documented in the three volumes of the 'System Zoo'. They can be quickly implemented and easily operated using freely available system dynamics software. Volume 2 of the System Zoo contains simulation models of the regional water cycle and global carbon cycle, the photosynthesis of vegetation, forest growth, the water, nutrient, and energy dynamics of agriculture, the interaction of plants, animals, and humans with other organisms and resources by predation, harvesting, and competition for nutrients, and through utilization of renewable and exploitation of nonrenewable resources. The System Zoo collection of simulation models is particularly well-suited for teaching, training, and research projects at all levels from high school to university, and for individual study. Volume 1 of the System Zoo contains simulation models of elementary systems, and of systems from the fields of physics and engineering. Volume 3 deals with systems and processes found in economy and society, and with long-term global development. Hartmut Bossel is Professor Emeritus of environmental systems analysis. He taught for many years at the University of California in Santa Barbara and the University of Kassel, Germany, where he was director of the Center for Environmental Systems Research until his retirement. He holds an engineering degree from the Technical University of Darmstadt, and a Ph.D. degree from the University of California at Berkeley. With a background in engineering, systems science, and mathematical modeling, he has led many research projects and future studies in different countries, developing computer simulation models and decision support systems in the areas of energy supply policy, global dynamics, orientation of behavior, agricultural policy, and forest dynamics and management. He has written numerous books on modeling and simulation of dynamic systems, social change and future paths, and has published widely in the scientific literature in several fields.

Zoo by James Patterson,Michael Ledwidge Pdf

In James Patterson's pulse-racing New York Times bestseller, violent animal attacks are destroying entire cities-and two unlikely heroes must save the world before it's too late. All over the world, brutal animal attacks are crippling entire cities. Jackson Oz, a young biologist, watches the escalating events with an increasing sense of dread. When he witnesses a coordinated lion ambush in Africa, the enormity of the violence to come becomes terrifyingly clear. With the help of ecologist Chloe Tousignant, Oz races to warn world leaders before it's too late. The attacks are growing in ferocity, cunning, and planning, and soon there will be no place left for humans to hide. For 36 years, James Patterson has written unputdownable, pulse-racing novels-and Zoo is the thriller he was born to write. With wildly inventive imagination and white-knuckle suspense that rivals Stephen King at his very best, Zoo is an epic, non-stop thrill-ride from "one of the best of the best" (Time).

Lai-Massey Cipher Designs by Jorge Nakahara Jr. Pdf

This book provides the first extensive survey of block ciphers following the Lai-Massey design paradigm. After the introduction, with historical remarks, the author structures the book into a chapter on the description of the PES, IDEA and other related ciphers, followed by a chapter on cryptanalysis of these ciphers, and another chapter on new cipher designs. The appendices include surveys of cryptographic substitution boxes and of MDS codes. This comprehensive treatment can serve as a reference source for researchers, students and practitioners.

High Seas and High Teas by Roslyn Russell Pdf

‘The rats I frighten away by throwing books or anything hard at the spot at which they commence their gnawing,’ wrote emigrant Janet Ronald in her journal kept aboard the Invincible in 1857. Packed in cheek by jowl with fellow passengers and crew, life on board the ships transporting convicts and free settlers from Britain and Ireland to Australia in the nineteenth century was rigidly defined by social class: lower-class passengers dined on homemade concoctions of mutton fat pudding and preserved potatoes, while those travelling first-class enjoyed elaborate multi-course dinners, including fresh meat, slaughtered on board. Navigating the social mores on these giant floating microcosms was only half the story. Amid the chronicles of flirtations and hijinks, odours and rats, nineteenth-century diaries capture tales of despotic captains, disease and domestic discord. From those sailing under servitude to emigrants seeking a new life, the people who braved the journey changed Australia.

Asymmetric Passive Components in Microwave Integrated Circuits by Hee-Ran Ahn Pdf

This book examines the new and important technology of asymmetric passive components for miniaturized microwave passive circuits. The asymmetric design methods and ideas set forth by the author are groundbreaking and have not been treated in previous works. Readers discover how these design methods reduce the circuit size of microwave integrated circuits and are also critical to reducing the cost of equipment such as cellular phones, radars, antennas, automobiles, and robots. An introductory chapter on the history of asymmetric passive components, which began with asymmetric ring hybrids first described by the author, sets the background for the book. It lays a solid foundation with a chapter examining microwave circuit parameters such as scattering, ABCD, impedance, admittance, and image. A valuable feature of this chapter is a conversion table between the various circuit matrices characterizing two-port networks terminated in arbitrary impedances. The correct conversion has also never been treated in previous works. Next, the author sets forth a thorough treatment of asymmetric passive component design, which covers the basic and indispensable elements for integration with other active or passive devices, including: * Asymmetric ring hybrids * Asymmetric branch-line hybrids * Asymmetric three-port power dividers and N-way power dividers * Asymmetric ring hybrid phase shifters and attenuators * Asymmetric ring filters and asymmetric impedance transformers With its focus on the principles of circuit element design, this is a must-have graduate-level textbook for students in microwave engineering, as well as a reference for design engineers who want to learn the new and powerful design method for asymmetric passive components.

Maya Lin by Susan Goldman Rubin Pdf

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., is one of the most famous pieces of civic architecture in the world. But most people are not as familiar with the reserved college student who entered and won the design competition to build it. This accessible biography tells the story of Maya Lin, from her struggle to stick with her vision of the memorial to the wide variety of works she has created since then. The carefully researched text, paired with ample photos, crosses multiple interests—American history, civic activism, art history, and cultural diversity—and offers a timely celebration of the memorial's 35th anniversary as well as providing an important contribution to the current discussion of the role of women and minorities in society.
