Sri Ramanuja Gita Bhasya by Swami Adidevananda Pdf

Srimad Bhagavad Gita is now widely recognised as a scriptural text of worldwide importance. Sri Ramanuja is one of the noted commentators on the Vedanta Sutras of Badarayana and the Bhagavad Gita. This has brought him recognition as one of the greatest exponents of Vedanta from the Vaishnava point of view. Swami Adidevananda, one of the distinguished scholarly monks of the Ramakrishna Order who retained his inherent Sri Vaishnava heritage, has translated the original verses and Sri Ramanuja’s commentary into English. This book is of special importance because it is the only English translation now available with the original Sanskrit commentary as well. The book opens with meditation on the Gita followed by the Gitartha-sangraha of Sri Yamunacharya with English translation. Swami Tapasyananda, who was a scholarly monk with deep devotional temperament and one of the Vice-Presidents of the Ramakrishna Order, has written a scholarly introduction to this work.

Bhagavad Gita by Sri Veeravalli Jagannathan,Jayashree Krishnan Pdf

An attempt is made in this book to give the meaning of the verses of Gita and highlight a few salient features of Ramanuja Siddhanta. Four books are required to be studied for a thorough understanding of the religious philosophy of Visishtadvaita. They are Sri Bashyam, Gita Bashyam, Bhagavad Vishayam and Rahasya Traya Saram. Sri Bhashya, the commentary on Brahma Sutras, is polemical in nature meant for those who are well versed in the exercise of Nyaya or Logic. But the Gita Bhashyam is free from polemics, meant for all discerning public. Three great teachers of the tradition, namely, Ramanuja, his predecessor Yamuna and his successor, Deshika, have dealt with the subject matter of Gita. Deshika's Gitartha Sangraha (Tamil) is used to sum up the chapters of Gita. Finally, references are made, where necessary, to a few books in English written by modern scholars for further reading.

Indra's Net by Rajiv Malhotra Pdf

Originating in the Atharva Veda, the concept of Indra's Net is a powerful metaphor for interconnectedness. It was transmitted via Buddhism's Avatamsaka Sutra into Western thought, where it now resides at the heart of post-modern discourse. According to this metaphor, nothing ultimately exists separately by itself and all boundaries can be deconstructed. This book invokes Indra's Net to articulate the open architecture, unity and continuity of Hinduism. Seen from this perspective, Hinduism defies pigeonholing into the traditional, modern and post-modern categories by which the West defines itself; rather, it becomes evident that Hinduism has always spanned all three categories simultaneously and without contradiction. It is fashionable among intellectuals to assert that dharma traditions lacked any semblance of unity before the British period, and that the contours of contemporary Hinduism were bequeathed to us by our colonial masters. Such arguments routinely target Swami Vivekananda, a key interlocutor who shattered many deeply rooted prejudices against Indian civilization. They accuse him of having camouflaged various alleged 'contradictions' within traditional Hinduism, and charge him with having appropriated the principles of Western religion to 'manufacture' a coherent and unified worldview and set of practices known today as Hinduism.Indra's Net: Defending Hinduism's Philosophical Unity provides a foundation for theories that slander contemporary Hinduism as illegitimate, ascribing sinister motives to its existence, and characterizing its fabric as oppressive. Rajiv Malhotra offers a detailed, systematic rejoinder to such views, and articulates the multidimensional, holographic understanding of reality that grounds Hindu dharma. He also argues that Vivekananda's creative interpretations of Hindu dharma informed and influenced many Western intellectual movements of the post-modern era. Indeed, as he cites with many insightful examples, appropriations from Hinduism have provided a foundation for cutting-edge discoveries in several fields, including cognitive science and neuroscience.

Sri Ramanuja His Life Religion And Philosophy by Swami Tapasyananda Pdf

Bhakti Schools of Vedānta’, of which this volume is a part, is a work intended to bring to the notice of the general reader that it is not correct to equate Vedānta exclusively with Advaita Vedānta, associated with Śrī Śaṅkarācārya. There are several other Ācāryas who have expounded the Vedānta in quite a different way and whose status as teachers of Vedānta requires recognition. The personages treated in the above book are Sri Rāmānuja, Śrī Nimbārka, Śrī Vallabha, Śrī Madhva and Śrī Caitanya. Besides their theo-philosophies, detailed accounts of their lives are given. For it is the support of their lives that gives more authority to their teachings than the philosophical writings of mere armchair philosophers. The frame-work of their lives is mainly historical, but most of the miraculous and extraordinary incidents mentioned in them may largely be projections of the pious imaginations of their followers. These too are to be respectfully received and not pooh-poohed as mere cock and bull stories. It is the way of the Indian mind to convey the idea that these Ācāryas are endowed with extraordinary powers. But for this, their teachings could not have survived through so many centuries influencing the lives of innumerable generations of men.

Hermeneutics of the Bhagavad Gita as Interpreted by Sri Ramanuja as a Social Moral Analysis by Chausasia Sheel Kamal Pdf

Introduction India is proud of having innumerable saints, composers, poets, seers and philosophers, Rāmānuja is one among them. An attempt is made to study one of the great works of Rāmānuja, The Gītā Bhāṣya. The Bhagavad Gītā (The celestial song), one of the Prasthāna Trayi (The triple text) along with the Brahma-Sutra and the Upaniṣad as a scripture has a universal appeal. The number of commentaries written, traditional and modern, by westerners and Indians is a proof of the same. The Gītā which is a part of the Māhābhāarata epic is in the form of an advice given by Lord Kṛṣṇa to the warrior Arjuna facing a dilemma: whether to fight or not. Seeing his teachers, elders, cousins on the battlefield, he is confused about the futility of fighting a war against his own kith and kin, he thinks that even if he wins the war, the consequences are going to be devastating. This condition of Arjun is known as Viṣādaḥ Yoga. In this situation, Lord Kṛṣṇa in the form of Arjuna's charioteer (Sārathi), counsels him and motivates him to fight, which Kṛṣṇa calls a just war, a last resort for the Pandvās to claim a fair share of the land which is rightfully theirs.

Ramanuja and Schleiermacher by Jon Paul Sydnor Pdf

Can the comparison of two theologians vastly separated in space and time help contemporary theologians to think better? This book compares two preeminent theologians, Sri Ramanuja of the Hindu tradition and Friedrich Schleiermacher of the Christian tradition. Each argues that God sustains the universe at every moment of its existence, but they work out the divine sustenance in very different ways.
