Managing Crises by Arnold M. Howitt,Herman B. Leonard Pdf

From floods to fires, tornadoes to terrorist attacks, governments must respond to a variety of crises and meet reasonable standards of performance. What accounts for governments’ effective responses to unfolding disasters? How should they organize and plan for significant emergencies? With fifteen adapted Kennedy School cases, students experience first-hand a series of large-scale emergencies and come away with a clear sense of the different types of disaster situations governments confront, with each type requiring different planning, resourcing, skill-building, leadership, and execution. Grappling with the details of flawed responses to the LA Riots or Hurricane Katrina, or with the success of the Incident Management System during the Pentagon fire on 9/11, students start to see the ways in which responders can improve capabilities and more adeptly navigate between technical or operational needs and political considerations.

Analytical Approach To Evidence by Ronald J. Allen,David S. Schwartz,Michael S. Pardo,Alex Stein Pdf

A problem-based Evidence coursebook that presents the Federal Rules of Evidence in context, illuminates the rules’ underlying theories and perspectives, and provides a fully updated and systematic account of the law in a student-friendly hornbook-style format. The material is accompanied with straightforward and systematic explanations. Lively discussion and interesting problems (rather than numerous appellate case excerpts) engage students in understanding the principles, policies, and debates that surround evidence law. The book also contains self-assessment sections in each chapter that teach students how to identify and resolve legal issues and succeed in the final exam. To sum up: this book stands out as “all in one”: it gives students of evidence an up-to-date comprehensive account of the law; it explains complex evidentiary issues in a straightforward and systematic fashion; and it also tells students what their exam will look like and how to succeed in it. New to the Seventh Edition: A new case file to introduce numerous evidence issues throughout the semester, with spin-off problems in each chapter. Updated doctrine, including application of evidence rules to electronic evidence and the online environment. Professors and students will benefit from: An opening case file introducing students to the process of analyzing evidence in terms of the essential elements of a legal dispute, serving as an effective introduction to much of the course to follow A wide range of real-world problems exposes students to the depth and complexity of the Rules of Evidence Every chapter addresses basic rules interpretation, essential policy, and connects theory to practice Assessment problems (modeled on exam questions) at the end of each chapter, including answers with explanations Teaching materials Include: Updated and streamlined Teacher’s Manual, including sample syllabi for both 4- and 3-credit courses, transition guide for each chapter, teaching guidance, and answers to all the problems in the book Problems Supplement that includes most problems deleted from prior editions

Pathological by Henry J. Cordes,Todd Cooper Pdf

A horrific account of the murders, investigation, and trial of the serial killer doctor known as the “Creighton Killer.” “A powerful and compelling story.”—The Haunted Reading Room Detective Derek Mois wasn’t sure what he was dealing with when in March 2008 he walked into a home in an affluent Omaha neighborhood and was confronted with the bodies of an 11-year-old boy and the housekeeper. Both had been murdered with kitchen knives plunged into their throats. Who would do something so vile—and why? Lacking answers, Mois and other detectives working the case were stumped. Five years later, a strikingly similar crime occurred in which two more victims were brutally murdered with knives expertly thrust into their jugular veins. The modus operandi of the murders pointed Mois and a special task force in the direction of looking for a serial killer. But no one could have anticipated that path would lead to the Department of Pathology at Creighton University. In Pathological: The Murderous Rage of Dr. Anthony Garcia, authors Henry J. Cordes and Todd Cooper, who covered the story for the Omaha World-Herald, recount the dramatic tale of deep-seated revenge, determined detectives, and the sensational trial of the doctor-turned-serial killer.

9-1-1 WHAT IS YOUR EMERGENCY? by Lucia - Retired Dispatcher #160 Pdf

This book contains actual 911 and non-emergency calls that came into the San Diego Police Department Communications Division during my 19 years working as a Police 911 Dispatcher. This book represents the calls received as accurately as possible. I did not embellish them to make the calls funnier or more exciting. These are actual calls, often unbelievable, but they are real calls. This book is a way for me to portray the "real world" life of a 911 dispatcher. Some people may not understand why or how we can make light of some of the calls in this book. You may fall into that category making this book not your cup of tea. If however, you can approach this book with an open mind, and a light heart, you may gain a different perspective about 911 dispatchers then you had before. Of course, the bulk of calls coming in were true emergencies that would not be appropriate for this book. I chose mostly, the light hearted calls that would make you come away from the book with a smile, instead of a heavy heart. The Dark Side Chapter is the only chapter in this book with samples of the more serious, violent type of calls we get on a daily basis. Many of you may be amazed by the sub culture out there, and how they live on a day to day basis. Many of these calls may shock you, and have you scratching your head thinking....OMG really?!! I took my job very seriously, and would never willingly jeopardize the confidentiality, or privacy of anybody who asked for my help. Therefore, I did not use real personal names or addresses from any callers in this book without their consent. Any names or a personal address used in this book that may sound familiar is pure coincidence. I hope you enjoy this book.

It Was Always ME by Josh Willaert Pdf

Forget everything you thought you thought you knew about the most publicly covered murders of our time. The evidence leads to one man committing the most chilling and widely known murders that have captivated the public's interest and caused terror throughout our communities including the Zodiac killings. Based on the investigation by veteran detective John Cameron and others contained in this book, Edward Edwards is also now linked to the murder of Steve Avery, the Black Dahlia, and Laci Peterson for which he set up Scott Peterson who is currently on death row for killing her. The evidence also strongly suggests that he killed JonBenet Ramsay and that he framed the parents whom were later exonerated.

Preparing for Practice by Amy Vorenberg Pdf

Preparing for Practice is a fresh approach to the first semester of the 1L legal writing and research course, designed to guide students through their development of the essential skills needed to pass the bar and practice law. The coursebook combines practice-oriented case files with more theoretical background text, eliminating the need for instructors to create their own case files. The three cases included in the text teach students new skills and give them the chance to practice ones they've already learned. The case files are meant to represent the type of information students will encounter in practice, and are also similar to the File and Library found on the Multi-State Performance Test (MPT). This unique text will be published at one-year intervals, each version featuring new case files. This will prevent students from accessing the work product produced by students in previous years. Each version will be on a three-year revision cycle. Features: The text focuses on skills essential to passing the bar and to practicing law. Three fully developed case files teach students new skills presented in the preceding expository text, while also practicing skills presented earlier in the text. Allowing students to practice new skills and master older ones cements their abilities. Case files are true-to-practice. Case files are also similar to the File and Library found on the MPT. Three versions will be sold at one-year intervals, each featuring entirely new case files. Each version will be on a three-year revision cycle. This will prevent students from accessing the work product produced by students in previous years.
