Autism Spectrum Disorders by David Amaral,Daniel Geschwind,Geraldine Dawson Pdf
Autism is an emerging area of basic and clinical research, and has only recently been recognized as a major topic in biomedical research. Approximately 1 in 150 children are diagnosed as autistic, so it is also an intense growth area in behavioral and educational treatments. Financial resources have begun to be raised for more comprehensive research and an increasing number of scientists are becoming involved in autism research. In many respects, autism has become a model for conducting translational research on a psychiatric disorder. This text provides a comprehensive summary of all current knowledge related to the behavioral, experiential, and biomedical features of the autism spectrum disorders including major behavioral and cognitive syndromology, common co-morbid conditions, neuropathology, neuroimmunology, and other neurological correlates such as seizures, allergy and immunology, gastroenterology, infectious disease, and epidemiology. Edited by three leading researchers, this volume contains over 80 chapters and nine shorter commentaries by thought leaders in the field, making the book a virtual "who's who" of autism research. This carefully developed book is a comprehensive and authoritative reference for what we know in this area as well as a guidepost for the next several years in all areas of autism research.

Advances in Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery 11 by Björn A. Meyerson,Christoph Ostertag Pdf
This volume contains selected contributions from the XIth Meeting of the European Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery held in September 1994 in Antalyaffurkey. Most of the papers deal with the many therapeutic and technical advancements made in this field of neurosurgery. The emergence of new stereotactic methodologies such as frameless stereotaxy and other forms of neuronavigation have become an indispensable tool for all types of neurosurgical operations. An increasing number of young neurosurgeons takes an interest in the neurosurgical approaches to the treatment of movement disorders, chronic pain and epilepsy. This is a clear sign ofthe growing awareness of the long neglected fact that these neurosurgical treatments can be offered to large patient populations. Neurotransplantation as a novel treatment of Parkinson's disease has paved the way for the application of this technology for other indications. The pioneering work performed by the late Edward Hitchcock is reviewed here. There is a renewed interest in pallidotomy for dealing with certain forms of Parkinson's disease and certain aspects of this operation are discussed in another paper. Progress in the neurosurgical treatment of pain is dealt with by contributions on refined techniques of percutaneous cordotomy, DREZ operations and critical evaluations of spinal cord stimulation. A novel approach is a report on the experiences of treating cancer pain by intraspinal implantation of chromaffin cells. Several contributions cover the important issues of novel techniques for the study of neural dysfunction, peroperative monitoring with PET, microrecording, magneto-encephalography and other techniques.

Practical Pharmacology for Alzheimer’s Disease by Takashi Kudo,Kenneth L. Davis,Rafael Blesa Gonzalez,David George Wilkinson Pdf
In this book, the four leading experts on the ACE inhibitors donepezil, galantamine, and rivastigmine and the NMDA receptor antagonist memantine explain the practical pharmacology of these symptomatic drugs with the aim of providing a sound basis for their clinical use in patients with Alzheimer’s disease. In addition, an introductory chapter considers the basic theory of pharmacology for Alzheimer’s disease and the book closes with an overview of the ways in which symptomatic drugs for dementia are used. The wide acceptance of the amyloid cascade hypothesis has led to vigorous development of disease-modifying drugs for Alzheimer’s disease, such as amyloid vaccinations and gamma- or beta-secretase inhibitors. The failure of clinical trials of these drugs to yield satisfactory results has, however, meant that for the time being patients continue to be treated only with symptomatic drugs. There is accordingly a need to become more proficient in the use of symptomatic medicines, and it is against the background of this quest that Practical Pharmacology for Alzheimer’s Disease will be of wide interest.

Oxford Textbook of Neuroimaging by Massimo Filippi Pdf
Part of the Oxford Textbooks in Clinical Neurology series, the Oxford Textbook of Neuroimaging provides an overview of the established and latest neuroimaging methodologies, and illustrates their application to the main diseases of the brain and the spinal cord including movement disorders, headache and stroke. In addition, assessments of neuroimaging techniques in both adult and paediatric neurological conditions are included, enabling thorough examples from both age groups. This full-colour book contains 280 detailed photographs and illustrations that enable a clear understanding of each technique. Covering the newest advances, each different imagining technique is comprehensively described, providing a practical relevance and a stimulus for more in-depth readings. The print edition is supplemented with a concurrent online edition, which allows access to the full content of the textbook, contains links from the references to primary research journal articles, and provides access to figures and tables that can be downloaded by the user. Providing a balanced state-of-the-art guide to neuroimaging for neurologists and radiologists, this title will enhance understanding of the pathophysiological basis of neurological conditions and will help set the stage for future research.
