Just Another Day in Paradise by Julia Bartlett Pdf

A friend complimented me on my vivid imagination after reading a draft of 'Just Another Day in Paradise'. The truth is that most of the locations really exist and that if you wander the Caribbean you will come across them. Many of the events also happened but some in different times and places and sometimes the characters just took off and did their own thing, ignoring me the way children ignore their parents when immersed in adventures. The Caribbean is where I live and I have kept true to its spirit and it is still wild and eciting. These adventures happen here every day; I know because adventures not disimilar have happened to me or my friends.

Analyzing Christmas in Film by Lauren Rosewarne Pdf

Film plays a vital role in the celebration of Christmas. For decades, it has taught audiences about what the celebration of the season looks like – from the decorations to the costumes and to the expected snowy weather – as well as mirrors our own festivities back to us. Films like It’s a Wonderful Life and Home Alone have come to play key roles in real-life domestic celebrations: watching such titles has become, for many families, every bit as important as tree-trimming and leaving cookies out for Santa. These films have exported the American take on the holiday far and wide and helped us conjure an image of the perfect holiday. Rather than settling the ‘what is a Christmas film?’ debate – indeed, Die Hard and Lethal Weapon are discussed within – Analyzing Christmas in Film: Santa to the Supernatural focuses on the how Christmas is presented on the deluge of occasions when it appears. While most Christmas films are secular, religion makes many cameos, appearing through Nativity references, storylines involving spiritual rebirth, the framing of Santa as a Christ-like figure and the all-importance of family, be it the Holy family or just those gathered around the dining table. Also explored are popular narratives involving battles with stress and melancholy, single parents and Christmas martyrs, visits from ghosts and angels, big cities and small towns, break-ups and make-ups and the ticking clock of mortality. Nearly 1000 films are analyzed in this volume to determine what the portrayal of Christmas reveals about culture, society and faith as well as sex roles, consumerism, aesthetics and aspiration.

Birds of Paradise by Anne Malcom Pdf

He collected beautiful things. Rare things. Ripped them out of their natural environment and preserved them in all of their dead splendor. The problem was I wasn't beautiful. I was all of the hideous and ugly realities of the world packaged into one broken human being. He came to kill me. That was his business. Death. He ripped me out of my natural environment, the prison I'd created, and locked me away with all of his beautiful dead things. I hated him. I still hate him. But if I was given the choice and the ability to leave this cage, come back to life, I'd stay dead. In all of my hideous splendor. Because my murderer can only possess dead things. And I can only be possessed by someone more broken and ugly than me.

Free at Last in Paradise by Ananda W. P. Guruge Pdf

FREE AT LAST IN PARADISE is a historical novel on Sri Lanka. This Island nation of great antiquity had been known to the Greeks and the Romans as Taprobane, to the Arabs as Serendip, to the Portuguese as Ceilao and to the Dutch as Ceylaan. A British Colony from 1796 to 1948, it has been known as Ceylon until, as a republic in 1972, it reverted to its age-old nomenclature of Sri Lanka. Its rich culture as reflected by an astounding heritage of monuments, literature, art, religious traditions and social values has merited many scholarly works. This is a pioneering work in that a reputed scholar-diplomat of Sri Lanka has chosen the medium of fiction to share the highlights of this heritage with the worldwide English-reading public. It is a fictography or a fictional biography which 'draws aside curtains and allows the reader to enter a world to which other authors had not been privy - one of the central character growing to adulthood and death.' Portraying Sri Lanka's march to Independence over well nigh a century, the novel highlights the role of Colonel Henry Steel Olcott, Madame Blavatsky and other Theosophists of USA who spearheaded the struggle of this British Colony for liberation through the revival of Buddhism and nationalistic sentiments. The key characters are renowned protgs of Olcott, who continues to be hailed and honored as a foremost national leader. 'The book will be read with pleasure,' says David Vickery of Britain, 'by those who love Ceylon and introduce those who have no knowledge of the country to a fascinating society.'

If This Is Paradise, I Want My Money Back by Claudia Carroll Pdf

Being in a coma has helped to open Charlotte Grey’s eyes for the very first time . . . As she hovers somewhere between life and death, Charlotte finally realizes what a complete mess she’s made of her time on Earth—including the five years she’s wasted on worthless, faithless James Kane. The afterlife should be paradise compared to that—except “heaven” seems to be nothing more than a big retirement home in the sky, with lots of bingo and bridge and absolutely no sign of Elvis, Princess Di, Kurt Cobain, or anyone else worth spending eternity with. Charlotte would rather return to Earth, thank you very much. But the only way she can get there is as a bona fide guardian angel . . . and the lost soul she’s assigned to is none other than the James Kane, who tore her heart out and stomped on it. Still, Charlotte’s determined to use her second chance to really start living, Kane or not, and have some fun . . . for once in her afterlife.

The Fiddler in the Subway by Gene Weingarten Pdf

GENE WEINGARTEN IS THE O. HENRY OF AMERICAN JOURNALISM Simply the best storyteller around, Weingarten describes the world as you think it is before revealing how it actually is—in narratives that are by turns hilarious, heartwarming, and provocative, but always memorable. Millions of people know the title piece about violinist Joshua Bell, which originally began as a stunt: What would happen if you put a world-class musician outside a Washington, D.C., subway station to play for spare change? Would anyone even notice? The answer was no. Weingarten’s story went viral, becoming a widely referenced lesson about life lived too quickly. Other classic stories—the one about “The Great Zucchini,” a wildly popular but personally flawed children’s entertainer; the search for the official “Armpit of America”; a profile of the typical American nonvoter—all of them reveal as much about their readers as they do their subjects.

The Greatest Love Story Never Told by Richard Orion Pdf

This story is based on a true love story that spanned almost two decades. The names and places have been changed to protect the privacy of the individuals involved in this affair. The chronological sequence of events has been maintained for continuity. All the stories and experiences are based on facts. This book is about a love story that was kept secret for 18 years and perhaps shouldve remained a secret. The first book related to this love story was a book of poems entitled Somewhere, Sometime, Somehow: Love Poems and Short Stories published in 2008 by this author and Xlibris. For the perceptive reader of this book one can trace the ups and downs of our love relationship. These 18 years were filled with robust love and passion for each other. Perhaps it was fantasy; perhaps it was the most real thing we will ever experience. The heartbreaking part of this love affair is that I am not really sure my lover ever really understood or appreciated my profound and unconditional love for her. I opened my heart to her through poetry and thoughtful letters, but she rarely showed me what was in her heart. Perhaps it was a one-sided love affair, but I surely think and hope not. I was convinced that she truly loved me through her words and actions. At least I experienced a pure love that I had only dreamed was possible. The story is told mainly through the exchange of letters and emails to each other. Perhaps readers can experience and hopefully feel the deep love we felt for each other.
