25 Stories I Would Tell My Younger Self by Dr Julian Hosp Pdf

What makes someone leave home at the age of 16 to move to another country all by himself? What drives a person to pursue a professional kitesurfing career even though there is no sea where he is from? Why would someone study 6 years of medicine, just to not work as a medical doctor after graduation? How did the same person go from complete bankruptcy to financial independence in just a few years by moving to Asia? Julian, the author of the book, was asked these and many more questions throughout his entire life. Many of the answers did not make any sense at the time when he took the decision but make absolute sense looking backwards The beautiful part of these stories he has around his answers is that anyone can not only relate to them, but moreover draw important conclusions for his or her own life. Julians thought processes are NOT rocket science. At the end, there are no good or bad decisions in life - only decisions that you make or don't make. Sometimes someone (you?) just need a little bit of reassurance that you are on the right track. Need the extra motivation to step out of your comfort zone and have personal growth (maybe you want to move abroad or start a professional sports career, or change jobs?) You are ahead of a big change and need guidance (move abroad, change jobs, personal shifts) Feel stuck at where you are and need help and support to see new ways Are at college or graduated from college and want to know through real life lessons if you are on the right track? Want to have highly productive days and get done twice as much as usual successfully? Want to get well-tested tips on personal finance, learn how to network professionally and have fun doing business. Are doing awesome already, but want to be inspired to have even more personal growth or try something new? ...then this book is for you! Julian's 25 easy-to-relate real-life stories are packed with true value bombs and over 75 life lessons and -hacks ready for you to use. Instead of the quick-tips or cookie-cutter-problem-solution approach these 25 real life stories will give you a practical blueprint. Most people never hear about the background stories of & against the odds or against the mainstream thinking; decisions, and what happened after taking them. So when they face a moment of adversity in their own life, they lack the self-motivation to overcome that obstacle. Julian wanted to make sure, that his Younger Self has a blueprint to be well prepared for such challenges and so he collected the most inspiring stories to give not only to his Younger Self but also share with you. Julian's 25 stories will make you laugh, scream, relate, and dream - but most important: They will inspire you to take those decisions in life, that you know you want and need to make, but have been too scared of so far.

What I Know Now by Ellyn Spragins Pdf

If you could send a letter back through time to your younger self, what would the letter say? In this moving collection, forty-one famous women write letters to the women they once were, filled with advice and insights they wish they had had when they were younger. Today show correspondent Ann Curry writes to herself as a rookie reporter in her first job, telling herself not to change so much to fit in, urging her young self, “It is time to be bold about who you really are.” Country music superstar Lee Ann Womack reflects on the stressed-out year spent recording her first album and encourages her younger self to enjoy the moment, not just the end result. And Maya Angelou, leaving home at seventeen with a newborn baby in her arms, assures herself she will succeed on her own, even if she does return home every now and then. These remarkable women are joined by Madeleine Albright, Queen Noor of Jordan, Cokie Roberts, Naomi Wolf, Eileen Fisher, Jane Kaczmarek, Olympia Dukakis, Macy Gray, and many others. Their letters contain rare glimpses into the personal lives of extraordinary women and powerful wisdom that readers will treasure. Wisdom from What I Know Now “Don’t let anybody raise you. You’ve been raised.” —Maya Angelou “Try more things. Cross more lines.” —Breena Clarke “Learn how to celebrate.” —Olympia Dukakis “You don’t have to be afraid of living alone.” —Eileen Fisher “Please yourself first . . . everything else follows.” —Macy Gray “Don’t be so quick to dismiss another human being.” —Barbara Boxer “Work should not be work.” —Mary Matalin “You can leave the work world—and come back on your own terms.” —Cokie Roberts “Laundry will wait very patiently.” —Nora Roberts “Your hair matters far, far less than you think” —Lisa Scottoline “Speak the truth but ride a fast horse.” —Kitty Kelley

Things I Would Have Said to My Younger Self by Cherita Ann Bloodwirth Pdf

Things I Would Have Said to My Younger Self is a collection of personal quotes that I started writing over 25 years ago. I wanted to share how my life experiences helped me find a path to becoming a better, stronger and more real version of myself. Now, I get to share my mistakes, revelations and hard lessons that I learned with all of you. As a child, I was always doing something that required an apology. Too often I would go to my mom and tell her how sorry I was and that I would never do whatever it was again... I was always sorry about something. If I lied, or was unpleasant, or said I completed a chore and didn't, I would apologize.I treated an apology like a "fix it" for everything. I was sorry but not really, but saying it should take care of the problem. But I think I was about eight years old when I heard my mom say a short but powerful statement to me (my first quote) that would impact my behavior and change how she saw me. It came after one of my many self-pity episodes, I attempted to apologize to her and she stopped me with a stare of nonacceptance and she said, "With an apology comes change." With that statement of truth, I felt exposed. The script I had prepared and plan to deliver to my audience of one was rejected. My acting career was over and now it was me that I had to convince. Her words of conviction and rejection were powerful, because it demanded her to change too. She could no longer be willing to accept another one of my empty apologies. She was done and so was I. What I realized was words had power, especially when they are intentionally linked together to provoke change. For me, quotes stir and steer the human spirit, they inspire, rebuke, teach, uplift, encourage, provoke, transform, motivate, release, sharpen, correct and debunk all of the litter that lays quietly within us-the parts of ourselves we learn to hide. Ironically, it is the unwanted, dark and ugly parts that help us change, grow and connect.

An Intimate Conversation with My Younger Self by Alice A. Hoffman Pdf

Have you ever wondered why everyone else's life seems better than yours? Have you ever felt like you're different and you don't fit in? Have you ever complained to yourself that no one really "gets" you? Alice A Hoffman spent 57 years thinking she was the only one who felt separate and alone. We watch as she shreds her relationships with others in a kind of blind inner fury; losing her mother's company and her friendships with just about everyone who loves her. Alice A Hoffman has poured the marrow of her life onto the pages of this book. When you read and absorb for yourself her deep sadness and confusion as a child, you will understand how a person might grow up to be what we call a "jerk." What follows is this frank and moving account written as a gesture of reconciliation and friendship to the world. Holding out her once broken heart for us to see, she humbly offers hope to all of us lost - for a day or for a lifetime - in silent chambers of fear and emotional pain. In this book you'll discover: There's no such thing as "normal." You are perfect just the way you are. What the word "no" can do for you. The power of forgiveness. Join Alice in her journey from suffering to happiness and you're sure to discover your own lessons along the way."

The notes tell her that she must write a letter—a true story, and that she can’t share her mission with anyone. It would be easy to ignore the strange messages, except that whoever is leaving them has an uncanny ability to predict the future. If that is the case, then Miranda has a big problem—because the notes tell her that someone is going to die, and she might be too late to stop it. A cannon. A strap. A piece. A biscuit. A burner. A heater. A chopper. A gat. A hammer A tool for RULE Or, you can call it a gun. That’s what fifteen-year-old Will has shoved in the back waistband of his jeans. See, his brother Shawn was just murdered. And Will knows the rules. No crying. No snitching. Revenge. That’s where Will’s now heading, with that gun shoved in the back waistband of his jeans, the gun that was his brother’s gun. He gets on the elevator, seventh floor, stoked. He knows who he’s after. Or does he? As the elevator stops on the sixth floor, on comes Buck. Buck, Will finds out, is who gave Shawn the gun before Will took the gun. Buck tells Will to check that the gun is even loaded. And that’s when Will sees that one bullet is missing. And the only one who could have fired Shawn’s gun was Shawn. Huh. Will didn’t know that Shawn had ever actually USED his gun. Bigger huh. BUCK IS DEAD. But Buck’s in the elevator? Just as Will’s trying to think this through, the door to the next floor opens. A teenage girl gets on, waves away the smoke from Dead Buck’s cigarette. Will doesn’t know her, but she knew him. Knew. When they were eight. And stray bullets had cut through the playground, and Will had tried to cover her, but she was hit anyway, and so what she wants to know, on that fifth floor elevator stop, is, what if Will, Will with the gun shoved in the back waistband of his jeans, MISSES. And so it goes, the whole long way down, as the elevator stops on each floor, and at each stop someone connected to his brother gets on to give Will a piece to a bigger story than the one he thinks he knows. A story that might never know an END…if Will gets off that elevator. Told in short, fierce staccato narrative verse, Long Way Down is a fast and furious, dazzlingly brilliant look at teenage gun violence, as could only be told by Jason Reynolds.

I Know This Much Is True by Wally Lamb Pdf

With his stunning debut novel, She's Come Undone, Wally Lamb won the adulation of critics and readers with his mesmerizing tale of one woman's painful yet triumphant journey of self-discovery. Now, this brilliantly talented writer returns with I Know This Much Is True, a heartbreaking and poignant multigenerational saga of the reproductive bonds of destruction and the powerful force of forgiveness. A masterpiece that breathtakingly tells a story of alienation and connection, power and abuse, devastation and renewal--this novel is a contemporary retelling of an ancient Hindu myth. A proud king must confront his demons to achieve salvation. Change yourself, the myth instructs, and you will inhabit a renovated world. When you're the same brother of a schizophrenic identical twin, the tricky thing about saving yourself is the blood it leaves on your bands--the little inconvenience of the look-alike corpse at your feet. And if you're into both survival of the fittest and being your brother's keeper--if you've promised your dying mother--then say so long to sleep and hello to the middle of the night. Grab a book or a beer. Get used to Letterman's gap-toothed smile of the absurd, or the view of the bedroom ceiling, or the influence of random selection. Take it from a godless insomniac. Take it from the uncrazy twin--the guy who beat the biochemical rap. Dominick Birdsey's entire life has been compromised and constricted by anger and fear, by the paranoid schizophrenic twin brother he both deeply loves and resents, and by the past they shared with their adoptive father, Ray, a spit-and-polish ex-Navy man (the five-foot-six-inch sleeping giant who snoozed upstairs weekdays in the spare room and built submarines at night), and their long-suffering mother, Concettina, a timid woman with a harelip that made her shy and self-conscious: She holds a loose fist to her face to cover her defective mouth--her perpetual apology to the world for a birth defect over which she'd had no control. Born in the waning moments of 1949 and the opening minutes of 1950, the twins are physical mirror images who grow into separate yet connected entities: the seemingly strong and protective yet fearful Dominick, his mother's watchful "monkey"; and the seemingly weak and sweet yet noble Thomas, his mother's gentle "bunny." From childhood, Dominick fights for both separation and wholeness--and ultimately self-protection--in a house of fear dominated by Ray, a bully who abuses his power over these stepsons whose biological father is a mystery. I was still afraid of his anger but saw how he punished weakness--pounced on it. Out of self-preservation I hid my fear, Dominick confesses. As for Thomas, he just never knew how to play defense. He just didn't get it. But Dominick's talent for survival comes at an enormous cost, including the breakup of his marriage to the warm, beautiful Dessa, whom he still loves. And it will be put to the ultimate test when Thomas, a Bible-spouting zealot, commits an unthinkable act that threatens the tenuous balance of both his and Dominick's lives. To save himself, Dominick must confront not only the pain of his past but the dark secrets he has locked deep within himself, and the sins of his ancestors--a quest that will lead him beyond the confines of his blue-collar New England town to the volcanic foothills of Sicily 's Mount Etna, where his ambitious and vengefully proud grandfather and a namesake Domenico Tempesta, the sostegno del famiglia, was born. Each of the stories Ma told us about Papa reinforced the message that he was the boss, that he ruled the roost, that what he said went. Searching for answers, Dominick turns to the whispers of the dead, to the pages of his grandfather's handwritten memoir, The History of Domenico Onofrio Tempesta, a Great Man from Humble Beginnings. Rendered with touches of magic realism, Domenico's fablelike tale--in which monkeys enchant and religious statues weep--becomes the old man's confession--an unwitting legacy of contrition that reveals the truth's of Domenico's life, Dominick learns that power, wrongly used, defeats the oppressor as well as the oppressed, and now, picking through the humble shards of his deconstructed life, he will search for the courage and love to forgive, to expiate his and his ancestors' transgressions, and finally to rebuild himself beyond the haunted shadow of his twin. Set against the vivid panoply of twentieth-century America and filled with richly drawn, memorable characters, this deeply moving and thoroughly satisfying novel brings to light humanity's deepest needs and fears, our aloneness, our desire for love and acceptance, our struggle to survive at all costs. Joyous, mystical, and exquisitely written, I Know This Much Is True is an extraordinary reading experience that will leave no reader untouched.
