50 Jahre/Years LCD Armbanduhren/Wristwatches by Uwe Heinz Sültz,Renate Gertrud Sültz Pdf

This book is a unique exposé for LCD watches. Watches with additional functions are shown (lighter, TV, radio, radio, navigation, agent, translator, weather, vibration...). The history of LCD watches is also discussed. Also on the technology. Who was the first... GRUEN or Cox or ? Definitely AMI and ILIXCO...

Cox by Christoph Ransmayr Pdf

The world's most powerful man, Qi nl ng, emperor of China, invites the famous eighteenth-century clockmaker Alister Cox to his court in Beijing. There, in the heart of the Forbidden City, the Englishman and his assistants are to build machines that mark the passing of time as a child or a condemned man might experience it and that capture the many shades of happiness, suffering, love, and loss that come with that passing. Mystified by the rituals of a rigidly hierarchical society dominated by an unimaginably wealthy, god-like ruler, Cox musters all his expertise and ingenuity to satisfy the emperor's desires. Finally, Qi nl ng, also known by the moniker Lord of Time, requests the construction of a clock capable of measuring eternity--a perpetuum mobile. Seizing this chance to realize a long-held dream and honor the memory of his late beloved daughter, yet conscious of the impossibility of his task, Cox sets to work. As the court is suspended in a never-ending summer, festering with evil gossip about the monster these foreigners are creating, the Englishmen wonder if they will ever escape from their gilded cage. Richly imagined and recounted in vivid prose of extraordinary beauty, Cox, or The Course of Time is a stunning illustration of Christoph Ransmayr's talent for imbuing a captivating tale with intense metaphorical, indeed metaphysical force. More than a meeting of two men, one isolated by power, the other by grief, this is an exploration of mortality and a virtuoso demonstration that storytelling alone can truly conquer time.

When Corporatism Leads to Corporate Governance Failure by Isabelle Schluep Pdf

Corporatism is often seen as the way Swiss stakeholders in business and politics are handling industrial challenges in a reasonable and flexible way. The following paper argues, however, that the emergence of corporatist structures in the Swiss watch industry has often encouraged rent-seeking and collusion at the expense of innovation and competition. This legacy makes it currently difficult for the industry to effectively respond to new technological challenges and changing societal preferences in the global watch business. The book draws on archival sources, accessible since 2015, that have also been extensively discussed in the Swiss print media in early 2016. They provide increasing evidence of corporate governance failure in the 1983 merger of SSIH (Société suisse pour l'industrie horlogère) and ASUAG (Allgemeine Schweizerische Uhrenindustrie AG) that led to today's Swatch Group. The merger, induced by the Swiss banks, was portrayed as a necessary step to save the two allegedly bankrupt watch companies. Yet, the archival sources show that ASUAG had already been successfully restructured and ready to conquer global markets with its new product, the Swatch.

Perfect Scale by Ansgar Schulz,Benedikt Schulz Pdf

"Thinking and working at different scales is at the core of the architecture. But how much of that design decision must be made? At what time it is useful to change the scale? What can, what should be displayed in a scaled architectural drawings? And how it is possible that this drawing is clear, legible, yet an aesthetic desire? The architectural drawing is not least a means of communication. It contains information that is relevant to different addressees. Choosing the right scale determines whether the client or the craftsman understands what is meant. Given the numerous possibilities of CAD gets the goal, to transport their own ideas clearly and unambiguously, sometimes out of sight. Ansgar and Benedikt Schulz provide guidance and lead the architectural drawing exemplarily back to its original purpose: to provide excellent buildings" -- Publicaciones Arquitectura y Arte.

International Symposium on History of Machines and MechanismsProceedings HMM 2000 by Marco Ceccarelli Pdf

The International Symposium on History of Machines and Mechanisms is a new initiative to promote explicitly researches and publications in the field of the History of TMM (Theory of Machines and Mechanisms). It was held at the University of Cassino, Italy, from 11 to 13 May 2000. The Symposium was devoted mainly to the technical aspects of historical developments and therefore it has been addressed mainly to the IFToMM Community. In fact, most the authors of the contributed papers are experts in TMM and related topics. This has been, indeed, a challenge: convincing technical experts to go further in-depth into the background of their topics of expertise. We have received a very positive response, as can be seen by the fact that these Proceedings contain contributions by authors from all around the world. We received about 50 papers, and after review about 40 papers were accepted for both presentation and publishing in the Proceedings. This means also that the History of TMM is of interest everywhere and, indeed, an in-depth knowledge of the past can be of great help in working on the present and in shaping the future with new ideas. I believe that a reader will take advantage of the papers in these Proceedings with further satisfaction and motivation for her or his work (historical or not). These papers cover the wide field of the History of Mechanical Engineering and particularly the History of TMM.
