This is a report about the current situation of refugees in Africa, causes of mass exodus and provisions for assistance programmes. After a detailed discussion of the causes which include the preservation of the former colonial boundaries and the remaining struggles for independence, the report cites as examples: Equatorial Guinea, the 'hidden war' in the Western Sahara, and Soweto. The report states that because the term 'refugee' is open to interpretation, there is wide abuse of refugee rights, and presents four case histories of refugees in Kenya. It divides the refugees into two categories: urban and rural. It also describes the work of the UN; national governments; voluntary agencies; the Organization of African Unity (OAU) and, the All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC). It concludes with Britain's attitude to the situation, indicating that interest in refugees has declined and that there is need for a long-term Government strategy.
