A Commentary on the Revelation of John by George Eldon Ladd Pdf

New in the Eerdmans Classic Biblical Commentaries collection In this now-classic exposition of Revelation, first published in 1972, George Eldon Ladd offers a clear, engaging, and insightful reading of the Apocalypse that is ideal for the pulpit, classroom, or personal study. In a brief introduction Ladd discusses the subject of authorship, the date and historical setting of Revelation, and the various methods of interpretation (preterist, historical, idealist, and futurist) that have been applied to the book throughout history. He then offers an analytical outline of Revelation’s structure and his verse-by-verse commentary, which reflects a historic premillennial perspective. The entire work is marked by Ladd’s sensitivity to the needs of both scholars and general readers and by his concern for proclaiming the message of Revelation for our time.

Revelation of John the Apostle by Richard D. Draper,Michael Rhodes Pdf

To read the book of Revelation is to see a myriad of representations pass by our gaze, offering and kaleidoscope of bizarre and incongruent images. This world strikes us at first as fearfully and mysteriously strange and fantastic. But once these symbols are properly deciphered, they combine to present crucial messages for those living in the last days. These messages were designed by God to lead all successfully through these troubled times if they will read, hear, and do his will. This commentary presents a comprehensive analysis of John's book aided by the lens of LDS doctrine and Mormon experience. God delivered his messages in the form of images housed within discrete visions, with each symbol explaining, exposing, or emphasizing various aspects of the message conveyed. The challenge is getting beyond the symbols to the represented realities. Information is drawn from all the Standard Works, the Joseph Smith Translation of the Bible, and from modern Prophets and Apostles.

A Revelation of Jesus Christ by J.B. Smith Pdf

From the Introduction by Merrill C. Tenney: This commentary is an attempt to make plain the meaning of Revelation. With commendable reserve, Dr. Smith has restricted himself largely to interpretation by other passages of Scripture which are related to Revelation by actual quotation or by striking parallelism. His painstaking studies of vocabulary and of related ideas make the book valuable to the earnest student of the Bible. Dr. Smith is a futurist and a premillenarian, holding that all of the Book of Revelation beginning with the fourth chapter relates to the future period of judgment known as 'the great tribulation,' which will be followed by the personal return of Christ and by the establishment of His kingdom. In this regard he is in a long line of renowned commentators, including Seiss, Gaebelein, Ottman, and others. The distinguishing feature of this commentary is its use of Biblical statistics and comparisons. The uses of important terms in the Revelation are cataloged, and their interpretation is derived from their context. The appendices contain some extensive studies of individual topics, correlating information not easily obtainable elsewhere. Dr. Smith follows a literal interpretation except where avowed symbolism demands a different procedure. He has sought to make his exposition consistent in method and in results. His use of Greek is apt, and shows a careful investigation of the underlying vocabulary of the Greek text. This commentary will probably be the mainstay of premillennial exposition for some years to come.

The Apocalypse of John by Francis J. SDB Moloney Pdf

In this major, paradigm-shifting commentary on Revelation, internationally respected author Francis Moloney brings his keen narrative and exegetical work to bear on one of the most difficult, mysterious, and misinterpreted texts in the biblical canon. Challenging the assumed consensus among New Testament scholars, Moloney reads Revelation not as an exhortation to faithfulness in a period of persecution but as a celebration of the ongoing effects of Jesus's death and resurrection. Foreword by Eugenio Corsini.

A Commentary on the Revelation of John by Reverend Randy Thames Pdf

We live in an extremely troubled world. We face epidemics, racism, violence, protests, and a lack of strong leadership in government. Crisis on a global level, natural disasters, and the ever-spreading criminal activity through the Internet have left us strained in our resources and vulnerable to all sorts of attacks. More succinctly, the world has lost touch with Jehovah, the Creator of the universe and the only one who can bring about any positive global change. As mankind turns his back on his Creator, he becomes more carnal, more primal, and without restraint. He becomes disobedient to authority, unthankful for what he has and incapable of judging right from wrong. He challenges that which gives him the right to issue the challenge in the first place. The fact that our world has lost all control should not be a shock to anyone. Jehovah laid out the chain of events that would lead to the depravity of man millennia ago. Mankind watches the downward spiral, and when there is no other alternative, they cry out to God, expecting that He will magically turn men’s hearts back to Him. Prophecy is seldom, God telling us what He is going to do. Most often it is God, through His foreknowledge, seeing what is to come and reporting it to us. The prophecy of God through John, Paul, Matthew, and the prophets of old is simply God showing us what is to come. He is relating, for our benefit, what is to come as the result of the failure of mankind. The Revelation of John is a love letter from God to His people, in which He forewarns us of the unchangeable future so that we might prepare ourselves for the inevitability of its appearance. In this book, the author has tried to “rightly divide” the truth of this prophecy in relation to the entirety of prophecy so that we might be able to see it unfolding before our eyes and awaken from our sleep to serve the living God.

Revelation by Grant R. Osborne Pdf

The Book of Revelation contains some of the most difficult passages in Scripture. Grant Osborne's commentary on Revelation interprets the text while also introducing readers to the perspectives of contemporary scholarship in a clear and accessible manner. Osborne begins with a thorough introduction to Revelation and the many difficulties involved in its interpretation. He discusses authorship, date of writing, and the social and cultural setting of the work. He also examines elements that complicate the interpretation of apocalyptic literature, including the use of symbols and figures of speech, Old Testament allusions, and the role of prophetic prediction. Osborne surveys various approaches commentators have taken on whether Revelation refers primarily to the past or to events that are yet future. Rather than exegeting the text narrowly in a verse-by-verse manner, Osborne examines larger sections in order to locate and emphasize the writer's central message and the theology found therein. Throughout, he presents his conclusions in an accessible manner. When dealing with particularly problematic sections, he considers the full range of suggested interpretations and introduces the reader to a broad spectrum of commentators. Revelation seeks to reach a broad audience with scholarly research from a decidedly evangelical perspective.
