The Prophecy of Daniel by Edward J. Young Pdf

This commentary on Daniel is a serious painstaking work by one of the foremost of contemporary Old Testament scholars. It is ably designed to meet the needs of pastors, students, and all those seeking a better understanding of Scripture. The author presents a clear, positive exposition of prophecy coupled with an accurate explanation of historical fact based on research and the accumulated authority of other outstanding Biblical scholars. In addition, he endeavors to bring out the exact meaning of the Hebrew and Aramaic languages in the original translation accompanying the commentary. The reader will find adequate reference to the divergent interpretations of other scholars, with a thorough and erudite explanation of differences. Those unacquainted with the ancient languages can nevertheless read this volume with great profit. A fresh and stimulating approach ...Thoroughly done ...A wholesome addition to the field of Old Testament study. - Review and Expositor The author has made himself, in the space of a relatively few years, easily the foremost among conservative scholars of the Old Testament. - The Perkins School of Theology Dr.Young makes it abundantly plain that the issue is not between good and bad, intelligent and obscurantist, scientific and unscientific scholarship...(but) between a believing scholarship and a skeptical and rationalistic scholarship. - Oswalt T. Allis Edward J. Young (1907-1968) was considered one of the ablest conservative scholars in the field of Old Testament, served for many years as Professor of Old Testament at Westminster Seminary, Philadelphia.

Observations upon the Prophecies of Daniel, and the Apocalypse of St. John by Sir Isaac Newton Pdf

When Manasses set up a carved image in the house of the Lord, and built altars in the two courts of the house, to all the host of Heaven, and us'd inchantments and witchcraft, and familiar spirits, and for his great wickedness was invaded by the army ofAsserhadon King of Assyria, and carried captive to Babylon; the book of the Law was lost till the eighteenth year of his grandsonJosiah. Then Hilkiah the High Priest, upon repairing the Temple, found it there: and the King lamented that their fathers had not done after the words of the book, and commanded that it should be read to the people, and caused the people to renew the holy covenant with God. This is the book of the Law now extant. When Shishak came out of Egypt and spoil'd the temple, and brought Judah into subjection to the monarchy of Egypt, (which was in the fifth year of Rehoboam) the Jews continued under great troubles for about twenty years; being without the true God, and without a teaching Priest, and without Law: and in those times there was no peace to him that went out, nor to him that came in, but great vexations were upon all the inhabitants of the countries, and nation was destroyed of nation, and city of city, for God did vex them with all adversity. But when Shishak was dead, and Egypt fell into troubles, Judah had quiet ten years; and in that time Asabuilt fenced cities in Judah, and got up an army of 580000 men, with which, in the 15th year of his reign, he met and overcameZerah the Ethiopian, who had conquered Egypt and Lybia, and Troglodytica, and came out with an army of 1000000 Lybians andEthiopians, to recover the countries conquered by Sesac. And after this victory Asa dethroned his mother for idolatry, and he renewed the Altar, and brought new vessels of gold and silver into the Temple; and he and the people entered into a new covenant to seek the Lord God of their fathers, upon pain of death to those who worshiped other Gods; and his son Jehosaphat took away the high places, and in the third year of his reign sent some of his Princes, and of the Priests and Levites, to teach in the cities of Judah: and they had the book of the Law with them, and went about throughout all the cities of Judah, and taught the people. This is that book of the Law which was afterwards lost in the reign of Manasses, and found again in the reign of Josiah, and therefore it was written before the third year of Jehosaphat. The same book of the Law was preserved and handed down to posterity by the Samaritans, and therefore was received by the ten Tribes before their captivity. For when the ten Tribes were captivated, a Priest or the captivity was sent back to Bethel, by order of the King of Assyria, to instruct the new inhabitants of Samaria, in the manner of the God of the land; and the Samaritans had thePentateuch from this Priest, as containing the law or manner of the God of the land, which he was to teach them. For they persevered in the religion which he taught them, joining with it the worship of their own Gods; and by persevering in what they had been taught, they preserved this book of their Law in the original character of the Hebrews, while the two Tribes, after their return from Babylon, changed the character to that of the Chaldees, which they had learned at Babylon.

Daniel's Commentary on Bible Prophecy by Daniel Ropp Pdf

These commentaries address many of the Bible's secrets that have been waiting literally centuries to be revealed. Some of these commentaries address information that has been misunderstood. The Scripture reveals why this generation is unique above all others. The significance is amazing! Information in this book will be controversial to some because it challenges some of the myths that are still being perpetuated. I found it amazing how God targeted the 1948 generation from the time of the birth of Abraham to be the last generation to reveal the consummation of the age, and we are living in it right now. I found it amazing that the United States has been kept hidden in prophecy until it was time for it to be revealed. The prophecy even reveals the invasion and occupation of the country. These things and many others are disclosed in these commentaries.

Studies in the Book of Daniel by Robert Dick Wilson Pdf

This commentary on the Biblical Book of Daniel answers crucial questions about the significance of his prophecy, and of the culture he lived among. Not content with simply interpreting the prophecy of Daniel, Robert Dick Wilson delves into the social, historical and cultural aspects of ancient Babylonia. The significance of Nebuchadnezzar II in the story of Daniel, how his dreams were interpreted to become some of the most significant aspects of Old Testament prophecy, is discussed. Other chapters focus on the Chaldeans and their society, the opposition that Babylon had to Israel - Daniel himself being a captive Hebrew man, taken from his homeland as a child - and the possibility that Nebuchadnezzar was mentally ill. The allusions to the events at the King's court in the Book of Daniel are examined in detail, with conclusions drawn to the most reasonable extent possible.

A Commentary on Daniel by Homer Hailey Pdf

In an era of runaway speculation on the subject of Bible prophecy, this volume fills an urgent need - a commentary on the Book of Revelation that is both fascinating and sensible. With its whirl of mysterious signs, symbols, and visions, the Book of Revelation inevitably gives rise to a variety of interpretations. The author combines aspects of these views-futurist, continuous historical, philosophy of history, preterist, and historical background-but favors the latter. The Book has a concrete setting in a definite period of history and deals with very real problems faced by Christians of the period. Symbols indicate powerful moral and spiritual forces involved in a violent clash in which the forces of God are ultimately triumphant. The Saints of that day found encouragement and gained the crown of victory. But the message continues to instruct and encourage God's people today. It reveals the principles of victory through righteousness and truth and the ultimate failure of all that is false. Some of the prophecies are yet to be fulfilled, such as the passing of the current order, the resurrection, the judgment, and the final reward and punishment of the righteous and the wicked. Consequently, some futurist aspects of the book are to be recognized. The first section discusses the title, author, place of writing, symbolism, date, interpretations, theme and purpose of Revelation. The second section on the ROman Empire provides the historical background for the birth and early years of Christianity. The main section of the book offers a complete, passage-by-passage commentary. Although firmly anchored in sound scholarship, it is not heavily footnoted, giving it the broadest possible appeal to serious students of God's Word.

Certain elements of the story - such as Daniel being placed in a den of lions - are deemed to have been likely. The existence of vast prides of lions roaming the-then very fertile Euphrates plains, and the discovery of lion reliefs and sculpture in ancient Babylonian excavations, make a specially built den of lions a distinct possibility. Robert Dick Wilson was a linguist who studied the Bible. Fluent in Greek, Hebrew, Aramaic and other ancient tongues, his scholarly gifts were famous in his native Pennsylvania and beyond. Part of the Presbytarian movement, he spent most of his life seeking to prove the veracity and truth of the Biblical lore.

Daniel and the Revelation by Uriah Smith Pdf

Both parts of Uriah Smith's astounding commentary of the Book of Daniel, and its prophetic relation to the birth and life of Jesus Christ, are united in this edition. The Book of Daniel has aroused great interest for apparently predicting the arrival of Christ on Earth, together with aspects of his character and deeds. This fascinating relationship, whereby the Old Testament foresees the events of the New Testament, has intrigued Biblical scholars for centuries. Uriah Smith, a minister and educator as well as an enthusiastic studier of the Bible lore, embarked on a quest to commemorate - line-by-line, verse-by-verse - the entire Book of Daniel. The commentary of Uriah is informative, lengthy and detailed. He explains and discusses the meanings of the verses, annotating his thoughts with references to other parts of the Bible where necessary. This methodology is repeated in Part Two, whereby the author's focus is turned to the life of Jesus Christ as alluded to in the Book of Revelation - a comparison of the prophecies made by Daniel, and those which appear in the New Testament, is undertaken. Perhaps the most overarching theme in this work is the discussion of how God makes his intentions and will known to followers on Earth. Deciphering such a mystery is no easy feat, yet it is one which Uriah Smith attempts energetically, drawing upon his decades of ministerial experience with holy scripture.
