A Doctor at Calvary - The Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ as Described by a Surgeon by Pierre Barbet Pdf

What the Gospels don't reveal about Christ's suffering, science does. The Gospels reveal only the barest essentials about the physical sufferings of Our Lord. But in this mind-opening book, Dr. Pierre Barbet relies heavily on his close analysis of the Holy Shroud of Turin to recreate every stage of the Passion with heart-rending precision and detail. The result: a minor classic of spirituality by a modern layman. Dr. Barbet was a devout believer who knew the spiritual value of his findings - and he encouraged priests and pastors to use them: "It is largely with a view to these clerics that I have wished to divulge my ideas, so that they may nourish their devotion to Jesus crucified and may bring it out in their preaching." This classic, with its engrossing and sympathetic medical portrayal of the Passion, has ignited religious devotion in clerics and laymen for over half a century.

A Doctor at Calvary by Pierre Barbet M. D. Pdf

What the Gospels don't reveal about Christ's sufferings, science does. While the Gospels relate only the barest essentials concerning the physical suffering of Jesus, Dr. Pierre Barbet addresses these gaps with scientific inquiry. A Doctor at Calvary provides a forensic pathologist's analysis of the Holy Shroud of Turin, which reveals the graphic account of Jesus's suffering at the hands of the Romans. Through a modern medical lens, Dr. Barbet examines the methods of infliction and physiological effects of each wound. He also delves into the historic practice and mechanics of crucifixion. This classic, with its engrossing and sympathetic portrayal of the Passion, has ignited religious devotion in clerics and laymen for over half a century. A Doctor at Calvary is a quintessential study for Lenten meditation and for those interested in understanding the crux of Christianity.

God So Loved the World by Fr. Robert Spitzer, SJ Pdf

In this volume the brilliant Fr. Spitzer probes in detail the major question that if an intelligent Creator God – manifest in logical proofs, scientific evidence, and near death experiences - who is the source of our desire for the sacred, and the transcendental desires for truth, love, goodness, and beauty, would want to reveal himself to us personally and ultimately. He then shows this is reasonable not only in light of our interior experience of a transcendent Reality, but also that a completely intelligent Reality is completely positive--implying its possession of a completely positive virtue – namely "love", defined as agape. This leads to the question whether God might be unconditionally loving, and if he is, whether he would want to make a personal appearance to us in a perfect act of empathy – face to face. After examining the rational evidence for this, he reviews all world religions to see if there is one that reveals such a God – an unconditionally loving God who would want to be with us in perfect empathy. This leads us to the extraordinary claim of Jesus Christ who taught that God is "Abba", the unconditionally loving Father. Jesus' claims go further, saying that He is also unconditional love, and that his mission is to give us that love through an act of complete self-sacrifice. He also claims to be the exclusive Son of the Father, sent by God to save the world, and the one who possesses divine power and authority. The rest of the book does an in-depth examination of the evidence for Jesus' unconditional love of sinners, his teachings, his miracles, and his rising from the dead. As well as the evidence for Jesus' gift of the Holy Spirit that enabled his disciples to perform miracles in his name, and evidence for the presence of the Holy Spirit today. If this strong evidence convinces us to believe that Jesus is our ultimate meaning and destiny, and desire His saving presence in our lives, that evidence should galvanize the Holy Spirit within us to show that Jesus is Lord and Savior, "the way, the truth, and the life." And our faith in him will transform everything we think about our nature, dignity, and destiny– and how we live, endure suffering, contend with evil, and treat our neighbor.

The Execution of Jesus the Christ by Mark J. Kubala MD FAANS FACS Pdf

For seventy years, we have been taught that Jesus died on the cross from asphyxiation (strangulation) because in the hanging position he was unable to exhale. This theory is not based on sound science. This book explains the medical cause of Jesus’s death and why even Pilate was surprised how soon Jesus had died. The dramatic changes that took place in Jesus’s body from the Last Supper until death are described in layman’s terms. To add to the injustice, Jesus’s condemnation to death was illegal under the Jewish law of his time—a fact supported by a review of the political and religious dynamics.

On the Resurrection, Volume 1 by Gary Habermas Pdf

The first volume of Gary Habermas’s magnum opus, On the Resurrection: Evidences represents the culmination of fifty years of research on the probability of Jesus’s resurrection. Using his “minimal facts argument,” Habermas demonstrates why we ought to trust the biblical and historical testimony of Scripture regarding the resurrection. This book is a must-read for pastors, students, and scholars interested in the historical evidence for the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

God's Gym by Stephen D. Moore Pdf

In this strikingly original work, Stephen Moore considers God's male bodies--the body of Yahweh in the Hebrew Bible, and the Father of Jesus Christ, and Jesus himself in the New Testament--and our obsessive earthly quest for a perfect human form. God's Gym is about divinity, physical pain, and the visions of male perfectability. Weaving together his obsession with human anatomy and dissection, an interest in the technologies of torture, the cult of physical culture, and an expert knowledge of biblical criticism, Moore explains the male narcissism at the heart of the biblical God. God's Gym is an intensely personal book, brimming with our culture's phobias and fascinations about male perfectability.

The Trial and Crucifixion of Jesus by David W. Chapman,Eckhard J. Schnabel Pdf

"The authors of this volume set themselves one task, to trace the extra-biblical primary texts that are relevant for understanding Jesus' trial and crucifixion. With that goal in mind, the book is built on three major themes: (1) Jesus' trial / interrogation before the Sanhedrin, (2) Jesus' trial before Pontius Pilatus, and (3) crucifixion as a method of execution in antiquity. In chronologically sequential order (where possible), the authors select and arrange an overwhelming amount of extra-biblical primary texts -- 462 to be exact -- underneath these three categories (75, 46, and 341 texts respectively)."--Brian J. Forgiving Others and Trusting God . . . a Handbook for Survivors of Child Abuse Experience Healing for Deep Wounds That Hinder Your Relationship with by J. E. Norris-Bernal Pdf

Why yet another book about forgiveness? Abundant literature, written from Christian and other spiritual perspectives, is available specifying why forgiving those who offend us results in such improved physical, mental/emotional, and spiritual health. What makes this book unique, however, is that it deals strictly with survivors of child abuse and the profound ways that they are affected for life without some type of intervention. Learning to forgive, healing from abuse, and trusting/finding intimacy with Father God are three processes that are difficult, if not impossible, for most survivors of child abuse to experience. The power inherent in forgiveness contributes enormously to healing for deep wounds and the realization of true intimacy with the One we are privileged to call Abba, Father. Many survivors' highly personal, deeply sensitive, and incredibly dramatic accounts of abuse suffered, their choices to forgive, their experiences of deep healing, and ultimately the fulfillment of lifelong desires for closeness with God are documented in Forgiving Others and Trusting God . . . Handbook for Survivors of Child Abuse. You will find these accounts both inspirational and unforgettable! Even if you never were victimized as a child, you will gain plenty of hands-on, practical tools to assist in your own journey from overcoming any emotional or spiritual obstacles and hindrances to forgiving others and trusting God. J. E. Norris-Bernal, M.S., was a Marriage and Family Therapist for over 20 years and an active member of the American Association of Christian Counselors. Turin Shroud: The Fifth Gospel, A Scientific and Legal Case for the Resurrection by Mickey J Ridings, JD Pdf

Today, we live in a time of images, photos, and videos that we continuously show others. Why? Because we love the person pictured. Thus, if my heavenly Father left a photo of His Son Jesus and His passion whom we love, I want to know about it and show it to others. The Shroud is one of the most scientifically investigated artifacts in the world. Numerous scientists, authors, researchers, and experts have published abundant literature. Notable figures, such as Rogers, Habermas, Jackson, Rucker, Whanger, Antonacci, Schwortz, and many more, have contributed to the ongoing dialogue. This book merges the phenomenal works of these experts with the scriptures, historical and physical evidence to create a comprehensive narrative. For example, What supernatural timing of three events confirms the exact date of Jesus' death? What prophet predicted that exact date? What ancient prophecy is only confirmed in the Shroud? How does the Shroud confirm Jesus' body left the tomb in three days? I hope to provide a deeper understanding of the Shroud by presenting a unified story incorporating all available evidence, adding power to your faith and its relevance in today's world.
