A Drop of Golden Sun by Irene L. Poché Pdf

I got the idea to write this biography of my husband about 1 year after he died. I was awake in the middle of the night and the idea came to me out of the blue. I knew immediately that I wanted to tell others what a wonderful person I had the privilege to be married to for 40 years and how his illness and death affected our lives. Since he had become ill, I was with him and able to use my nursing skills from far back when i was in training at Charity Hospital School of Nursing. It was difficult but I was so glad that I could take care of him and not depend on others. I was well qualified as an RN to meet his needs and I did it with caring and love. I am a native Louisianan and have lived in a small rural town called Gramercy for all of my life. I love music and am an accomplished pianist, vocalist and songwriter., I have been active also in community theater and have had several lead roles, the best of which I think was Dolly Levi, in the title production of "Hello Dolly" I am also the choir director at my church and am the cantor and sometimes also the organist. Music holds a special place in my heart as it can express feelings that sometimes are unable to be spoken. In fact, I sang at my parents' funeral, and at Ray's funeral. It was my way to give closure to some of my grief. I plan to retire from nursing after 45 years and hope to be able to spend more time with my grandchildren, whom I love dearly, my daughter who lives with me and my two canine companions, Zoe, a 10 year old Maltipoo and Honeybunn, a 4 year old Bichon Frise. An added note about this book is that some of the proceeds will go to Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center in Baton Rouge, La. where my mother and husband were patients and where I am now a patient.

A Drop of Golden Sun: Re-presenting Tagore’s Gitanjali by Sohini Sen Pdf

Rabindranath Tagore once said: “Sometimes the meaning of a poem is better understood in a translation, not necessarily because it is more beautiful than the original, but as in the new setting the poem has to undergo a trial; it shines more brilliantly if it comes out triumphant." Sohini Sen re-discovered Tagore’s Gitanjali: Song Offerings in recent years, when the whole world was in a dark, vulnerable space. Revisiting the 103 original Bengali poems of Tagore and working on ‘re-presenting’ these gave her the creative solace she so needed to survive. That immersion into Gitanjali made Sen realise just how timeless Tagore’s works were, for they spoke with ease of a profound spiritual connection with one’s higher self. Across religions, across cultures. Most of all, across generations. ‘To come closest to oneself is to traverse far’, and yet, all of us do go on that journey at some point in our lives. This book promises to be a kind companion on your travel along that path.

Under the Golden Sun by Jenny Ashcroft Pdf

A "remarkable novel of family and love during a time of war,"* Jenny Ashcroft's Under the Golden Sun follows a soul-searching young woman who takes a leap of faith and discovers a place to call home and someone to share her heart. England, 1941. The world is at war. London is under siege as the German blitz pounds the city without warning, without mercy. Rose Hamilton did her part as a member of the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force until she was unfairly discharged following a tragic loss. Working as a secretary on a Devon farmland, Rose is out of harm’s way, but she needs to contribute to something greater than herself to truly recover. Answering a newspaper advertisement for a companion to accompany an orphaned child to Australia, Rose becomes enchanted with four-year-old Walter Lucknow. Shy, imaginative, and kind, the boy lost his parents and has been living in near seclusion with his elder great aunt. As heir to a wealthy Australian cattle station, Walter must return to his homeland and his mother’s family. Leaving her own family—and fiancé—Rose braves the long, dangerous voyage across Pacific waters where war is imminent to see Walter safely home. But upon arrival, Rose learns the truth about Walter’s relationship to the Lucknows and the land he’s supposed to inherit, a truth that haunts the boy’s Uncle Max, a wounded pilot scarred inside and out. And as Max opens his heart up to Walter, Rose is drawn to the man’s strength and compassion, finding herself torn between returning to England and staying with the child and man she’s grown to love. *New York Times bestselling author Karen White

The Wish-Fulfilling Golden Sun of the Mahayana Thought Training: Directing in the Short Cut Path to Enlightenment eBook by Lama Zopa Rinpoche Pdf

The Wish-Fulfilling Golden Sun of the Mahayana Thought Training was used as textbook for the third (October 1972) through seventh (November 1974) Kopan meditation courses and contains Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s summaries of and meditations on many important topics from the lam-rim. The textbook is currently recommended as part of FPMT Education Services’ Discovering Buddhism course. From the original preface, written by Lama Zopa Rinpoche: "This book has not been written because there is some new Dharma that was not shown by Guru Shakyamuni. And because of my limited-experience realizations, in no way I have deserved to write such a book, and there is scant hope that it can benefit others. "But in view of the remarkable fact that in this time, already beyond the period of the five degenerations and an age in which there is the great danger of atomic explosion, an increasing number of Westerners are finding the Buddhadharma as they seek like blind men opening their eye, and as it is extremely important to make meaningful this once-received Wisdom Eye, which analyses all dharmas, clearly discriminating between what to avoid and what to practise, my depthlessly kind venerable Guru, Thubten Yeshe, has given the Vajra instruction that it is necessary to write a book such as this in English." 2016 edition, 292 pages.

Red Rising by Pierce Brown Pdf

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Pierce Brown’s relentlessly entertaining debut channels the excitement of The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card. “Red Rising ascends above a crowded dystopian field.”—USA Today ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR—Entertainment Weekly, BuzzFeed, Shelf Awareness “I live for the dream that my children will be born free,” she says. “That they will be what they like. That they will own the land their father gave them.” “I live for you,” I say sadly. Eo kisses my cheek. “Then you must live for more.” Darrow is a Red, a member of the lowest caste in the color-coded society of the future. Like his fellow Reds, he works all day, believing that he and his people are making the surface of Mars livable for future generations. Yet he toils willingly, trusting that his blood and sweat will one day result in a better world for his children. But Darrow and his kind have been betrayed. Soon he discovers that humanity reached the surface generations ago. Vast cities and lush wilds spread across the planet. Darrow—and Reds like him—are nothing more than slaves to a decadent ruling class. Inspired by a longing for justice, and driven by the memory of lost love, Darrow sacrifices everything to infiltrate the legendary Institute, a proving ground for the dominant Gold caste, where the next generation of humanity’s overlords struggle for power. He will be forced to compete for his life and the very future of civilization against the best and most brutal of Society’s ruling class. There, he will stop at nothing to bring down his enemies . . . even if it means he has to become one of them to do so. Golden Son continues the stunning saga of Darrow, a rebel forged by tragedy, battling to lead his oppressed people to freedom. NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY NPR, BUZZFEED, AND BOOKLIST • “Gripping . . . On virtually every level, this is a sequel that hates sequels—a perfect fit for a hero who already defies the tropes. [Grade:] A”—Entertainment Weekly As a Red, Darrow grew up working the mines deep beneath the surface of Mars, enduring backbreaking labor while dreaming of the better future he was building for his descendants.
